You know... I have no idea... after years and years of working in restaurants, bartender, manager, GM... it is just one of those things that works but I dont know why. I have asked many ppl why this works.... and they all say that they dont know why it work, it just does.
Kinda like chicken soup.

I don't see what all the big hubbub is about here... the person doesn't know the answer to the question, and instead of providing useful information, you're heckling him. Not everyone grew up in a family of alcoholics. I didn't even have my first drink until I was 22, and I didn't even get drunk for the first time until I was 23... come of think of it... Go check out one of the newer episodes of Mythbusters. Ice + cold water + salt = colder than just ice and water.
