make cold really quickly.

:)

I understand that saltwater has a lower freezing point than freshwater, but if you're mixing water and ice why would that matter? Mixing ice and fresh water doesn't freeze the water, it melts the ice. The overall mixture is still above 0 celsius right?

You know... I have no idea... after years and years of working in restaurants, bartender, manager, GM... it is just one of those things that works but I dont know why. I have asked many ppl why this works.... and they all say that they dont know why it work, it just does.

Kinda like chicken soup.

I don't see what all the big hubbub is about here... the person doesn't know the answer to the question, and instead of providing useful information, you're heckling him. Not everyone grew up in a family of alcoholics. I didn't even have my first drink until I was 22, and I didn't even get drunk for the first time until I was 23... come of think of it... I didn't drink, smoke cigars, go to strip clubs, or become wildly promiscuous (I was only 'promiscuous') until I joined the US Navy.

Thank you U.S. Navy!

Oh man, that thread would give anyone who has a clue of thermodynamics a headache. Why do people respond to questions when they don't have a damn clue what they are talking about? Then they flame away when called on their stupidity. It's painfully frustating.

Go check out one of the newer episodes of Mythbusters. Ice + cold water + salt = colder than just ice and water.
