Wow. I didn't put an exclamation point after "wow" b/c I am just dumbfounded. I scrolled thru the pics and was just awed. The fact that a setup like this is prolly close to $250,000 is obvious, but what's not so obvious is that this is prolly a castle or old mansion/manor home. I noticed the guys' email is .fr. France, right? Prolly some castle way up in the mountains. I'd love to have just the extra two rooms in my apt w/o the equipment! I'd love to hear how this setup sounds. See the microphone stand in back of the couch? That's prolly real-time acoustic phase correction equipment. Freakin' awesome. That whole wall full of vacuum tube amps just blew me away. Those damn things cost about 5K each. Talk about money to burn. Nice post. Thanks.

WOW. And to think the people at Good Guy's thought I was nuts when I wanted seperate A and B channels for my Klipsch Heresey's for music and my new Klipsch Quintet for the 5.1 surround.

<<The fact that a setup like this is prolly close to $250,000>>

The Cary 1610 Single End Monoblocks Class A Tube amps used are $40,000 pair (monoblocks - one for ea
channel) and there are 10 shown, so thats $200,000, just for those. While its hard to estimate the cost of
hand built horns, this system is easily well over $2 mill

Favre is a French pro speaker manuf. here

And the 2227H are 15" JBL Pro speakers, stacked six high on each end, push pull meaning two per enclosure.

that looks damn nice, but looking over his specs, some things bothered me:
the biggest thing is that all his drivers except for the horns seem to be jbl - if you're spending that much money to use cary and gryphon mono blocs, y would u go w/ jbl and not dynaudio or focal drivers - much better?
and the speaker enclosurses don't seem to be the best shape or in the best config to my eyes, just judging off of other designs and my limited knowledge of speaker design/sound engineering.

but damn, still i wouldn't complain

Farbio:

You are correct about the JBL drivers. There is no in the middle for horn loaded speakers. Either you
like them or don't. Personally, I hate them. The saving grace of this over engineered monstrosity is the
Cary amps, which probably kill most of the shrill nature of the horn loaded JBL tweeters. This is a "show-
off" system for someone who has more money than brains. While the bass will prob knock you over, and
the volumes possible (dynamic range) are equal to jet engines, I am equally sure this system sounds like
crap to an experienced ear.
One pair of Cary amps on Martin Logan Prodigy's bi amped with Bryston 500 Watter monoblock on Woofer
and an Ayre K-3 or Mark Levinson 32 preamp would be far more enjoyable listening experience.

MichaelD:

Hgh end audio consumption used to be centered in Hong Kong, where price was no object, and is respon-
sible for the doubling and tripling of hi end prices HERE. If your product was "value priced" is was assumed no
garbage. Price was equated with desireability. How about a $70,000 turntable with a granite plinth? A $15K
phono cartridge? The sky was the limit. Then the economies of the far east crashed. And China took over.
And now top end hi-fi has priced itself out of the marketplace. It was briefly saved by the dot com bubble,-
but that has burst now too. And the mp3 format has ruined any chance of a new generation of "audiophiles"
emerging to replace the old.

I don't think he's stupid, it takes a lot to reproduce classical music especially symphonie at full scale, I don't think any single enclosure speaker can do it without sounding strain, so I think he's clear on what it takes.
