If you're lucky you might be able to get away with it....just open up the RAM. Never know, it's UPS.

So you're saying UPS might tamper with my ram? What do you mean if i'm lucky? If im lucky i will get the authentic crucial ram?

Ya'll have all brought tears to my eyes. Thank you  If Blizzard is for real, which I think he is, give him a break and be kind. Blizzard...how about you email Crucial w/ your questions...give them all the details and see how they reply. You can bank on their advice. G-Luck 🙂

Blizzard, if you dont know enough about computers to know which of these post are for real and which are jokes then just call the geek squad, seriously they will install your crappy OEM ram and you wont have anything to worry about.

how much do i have to pay them? I think i'm capable of installing it if people here were serious in helping me...

Actually OEM is the same quality.....
yet with a number of manufacturers...ie Sony etc....you have a reduced warranty almost always 30 days max..OEM!!

I had a dvd player go out on me and I called Sony they told me had I not bought the DVD player OEM that particular dvd player would have had a 1 yr warrsnty..instead of a 30 day warranty!!

Other than the warranty thingee.....OEM is exactly the same as non OEM!!

nope. Still looks like it has LT warrenty.

Maybe Newegg put the "real" warranty in an obscure place on their website? I'm having doubts about OEM ram, since i've heard reports they break easier and also they are slower in speed? Is that true? 🙁

No it is not true that OEM breaks more, most of the time is made from the same stock as the retail counterpart. Some OEM components are customized and this could be one of those, but I do expect it to funtion the same as retail boxed ram. Dell buys OEM parts and alot of those are stock parts that have been manufacutrer modified to meet the wishes of DELL, IBM/Lenovo, HP, The OLD Compaq, Gateway, Newegg.com, etc.

As for warrenties Crucial or any other manufacturer will not honor the warrenty, it is the duity and option of the OEM supplier to decide if they will warrent a repair or replacement. Quite often you are stuck with out a repair or replacement option, people have been burned. In this case Newegg.com is the OEM and it is their option not Crucial's to replace this thing if it is defective. Bottom line, if you decide to buy an OEM part just becarefull who or what retailer you choose to buy it from.

If you just orderd it with in the last few hours then call newegg and tell then you want to cancel the order. If the RAM has already been shipped then refuse delivery and newegg.com will issue a refund on your credit card. After that has been cleared up I then HIGHLY recomend you go to http://www.crucial.com. By ordering from crucial.com you are being guarneteed Three things: One is the warrenty. Two is you are getting the latest chip technology produced by micron. Three is you are getting the retail part you want.

It seems everyone forgot to tell you something very important. OEM ram comes with a very thin layering of chemicals to prevent it from being scratched during shipping. You need to wash this off with warm water mixed with a teaspoon of bleach. Let it soak in that solution then use a toothbrush to scrub it. Or you can just stick it in a washing machine, which by the way is also a great way to clean your keyboard. Also don't forget to de-magnitize your computer by running a magnet over the whole motherboard. After that pick up your ram with some pliers and place it over the ram slot, doesn't matter which direction it faces and then push down as hard as you can until it goes into the slots. Use a hammer if necessary to make those suckers get in there.

Exactly why I never buy anything OEM. That crap is hard to remove.
Oh, and I suggest using something stronger than bleach. I use Muratic acid.

I like it

NEWBS. EVERYONE KNOWS Muratic acid AND bleach WILL DEMAGNITIZE THE IMPORTANT PART OF UR RAM AND MAKE IT GO SLOWER BY 50%.

first, u gotta rub it with achohol, beer will be fine. then once its drunk, u run it under the pins of the cpu to take some elctronic data from it. then u ram it in the AGP or PCI-E slot. the OLD ram slot is way old. everyone these days uses the AGP or PCI-E slot for ram.

Yes you MUST install your crap OEM RAM on a wooden floor, so either buy a new house or rip out your current carpeting and get REAL hardwood floors. For god sakes, don't install the ram if you are on carpeting. Don't get that fake wood floor stuff either. Red Oak is best, but maple will be OK.

Why did you say "crap OEM RAM" I thought OEM ram was the same quality as retail ram?

No, its kind of like the runt in a group of pigs. For example it's really small or it has defects.

Ok... so I can be rest assured that I'm still buying high quality RAM that was made by Crucial right? Or does crucial give the parts to Newegg and newegg makes it?

Also, do you think I should cancel my order and be on the safe side and get retail RAM instead?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now i have heard rumors over the years that newegg makes their own oem items........ then again, have also heard rumors they couldnt make a sandwhich 😉

OMFG!!!! I think I wet myself!! I haven't laughed this hard since the "my PC is cold with solution" thread.

To all you jokers f**in with the OP, you owe me a new pair of pants🙂

To the OP, either you are one of the greatest comic straight men I have ever seen. Or one of the most dense and paranoid people I've ever seen and seriously need help.

I nominate for General Hardware Thread of the Year!

Wow...absolutley hilarious.

Blizzard...I'm going to lay this out for you. If you post another dumb question again I'm going to find you and smack you across the head.

1.) Open RAM from packaging
2.) Open Laptop RAM access door (usually held on by one screw)
3.) Take old ram out, notice out it pops up and comes out in a 45 degree angle. Also notice that there is a "notch" where the RAM inserts the motherboard
4.) Line up new RAM with the notch of the RAM in the correct location @ a 45 degree angle, push in, and push down.
5.) Close and screw RAM access door
6.) Power on laptop
7.) Be happy and never post @ Anandtech again.
