OH boy... what did i do this time PLEASE HELP

So my northbridge chipset fan broke so i had to replace it... the company sent me a new one and i replaced it (had to fight w the mobo and stuff a bit in the process cuz i didn't want to unplug anthing). plugged everything in finally and turned on the comp... all the fans worked fine computer started but then it didnt detect a single hard drive (none of my 3 SATA drives) but it did detect my dvd drive (ide).... what could i possibly have unplugged?
 
yea the actual SATA cables are plugged in... i mean there are 3 of them so i doubt all 3 popped out at once but yea i did check em and they are plugged in so are the power cables for each of the 3 hard drives... could i have taken out some jumpers or something?
 
OK power cables tight, SATA cables tight..... did you maybe reset the bios by accident? I don't know what DFI has for the SATA but some I know have SATA controllers that gotta be enabled and don't by default. I'd assume DFI does though, especially a newer board like that.

Just to double-check stuff I'd totally unplug the sata cables from the mobo and the drives themselves and plug them back in. My friend had this issue once of them loosening when he messed around inside the computer - they were plugged in but not making contact or something. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Its late at night and I'm not really awake atm 😛

ok i just found that i have no jumper on the 3 cmos pins... should there be one?
maybe i unplugged it while putting the mobo back in.

Anything that connects to the two pieces of metal will work as a jumper.

get out a flashlight and a largish magnifying glass and see if you scratched any mobo traces

unplug and take off the whole NB hsf and try to boot without it, you may have twisted something into a short. Look also aound the NB for something pushed over, or angled plugs. Is RAM still seated with clips down?
 
Are your drives even getting any power in the first place...i don't know the degree of which you unplugged cables..i assume u unplugged the power cord too from the socket. Sometimes when you plug in new fans/devices it could be that power isn't getting to them. I've had this happen to me several times w Asus boards b/c i didn't cut the power.

Go back into the BIOS setup and double check your settings. The settings you made earlier may not have been saved because the jumper was missing.
 
Ok... so I just called dfi... they didn't do much they just made me put the jumper in the reset setting for 10 secs then put it back in the normal setting and restart... then load default cmos.... it still came up with no drives so they just told me to email rma@dfiweb.com.... i really don't want to go this route... i didn't unplug anything when i was putting in the fan... i felt myself take off something htat felt like a jumper but i couldnt really find it so i didn't think twice (oh boy am i regretting that).... so now the jumper is there but i'm still getting the same thing... no drives detected on the sata ports... my dvd drive is still there though.... sigh... i just don't even know what else to try

you may of shorted somthing out
 
The CMOS jumper wouldn't have anything to do with the problem. Mainly the 3rd pin or home position of the jumper is a blank or dead pin just there to hold the jumper when the CMOS isn't being reset. I would have unplugged at least the ATX power cabled before playing with anything. Also make sure you didn't drop anything behind the motherboard when you took the original fan out, this is a common problem.
