I'm fairly surprised that theres any substantial support for Trump at all.

The mans a complete tit. Regardless of his policy positions (which would be nice to know considering that he seems to have a problem knowing what they are) he's a feckless, responsibility dodging, arrogant, tax dodging, sexual degenerate who is no where near as intelligent as he thinks he is. He's the kind of bully that immediately starts crying as soon as someone stands up to him.

The man has no redeeming personality traits at all!

That coupled with his, seeming, total lack of policy and total ignorance of... well... everything really, makes me utterly dumbfounded as to why anyone would vote for him.

The thing to remember about the US is that in the late 60's, desegregation & such could not pass at the ballot box even in states with a substantial black population. Now, if the same issue came up for a hypothetical vote again today, it would thankfully win pretty easily. However if we limited voters to just the GOP folks, it might well not go that way.

This isn't just mere supposition, but rather every poll/survey on the matter show that ethnic resentment is the best predictor of party affiliation, and that even within the gop primary field trump support had the highest racial animosity skew by far. He's their guy. His fans & the paid PR also like to talk economic victimization in addition to this and that about minorities, but again studies show that they are well above average in family income so that can't be it.

All signs point to a candidate buoyed by the lingering effects of a historically racially divided country---an effect which still runs so deep that no amount of character flaws can dissuade the faithful. Recall that many of these are supposedly deeply religious people; evidently hating on the ethnic types is more important to them than abiding by jesus's prescription for moral decency.

After Brexit, are you really that surprised? Every claim I can think of for Brexit was debunked, no sound policies or realistic outcomes were ever mentioned publicly, yet still enough people were duped into voting for it.

I was amazed by how apparently easy it is to push peoples' buttons, set them up with a target for their hate, wind them up and watch them go. It also answered a question I often pondered in childhood as to how the Nazis gained such support for their schemes.

Not going to disagree overall, but I think there is more to the story than meets the eye. As the liberal media shifts focus to urban minorities, it completely ignores a huge part of the population: Industrial age working white people. As we all know, the industrial revolution is over, it's only going to decrease further from here.

So understand this: As much as you will talk about poor minorities (Black, latin, <insert anything but Asian because they are *MAGICAL* exceptions to the liberal gospel for some reason>), at the end of the day the group with the largest amount of poor people is in-fact white people. Partly because they make up ~63% of this entire country. At the end of the day when the news media only reports about minorities, how do you think they feel? Shunned. Outcasts. Chop liver. So can you honestly be surprised that they prop up a candidate like Trump?

I would suggest the following interview video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_Idvppb_io It might just open your eyes a little.

IDK about you...but in high school I always talked to my friends on how I'd like to get up that cheerleader's skirt. Then we'd joke about the fat chicks and how you would have to slap her hips and ride the wave in.

So you're saying that you don't care if a highschooler sits in the office of POTUS?

I've been saying this for a year now: Trump and his supporters firmly believe that this is an election for their high school class president. Or maybe Prom King.

"Basket of Deplorables" is quite the understatement.

I'm deplorable and voting for Trump 2016! Go Trump! Benghazi, Emails, Haiti, Iran, Syria, Libya, but none of that matters because Trump's speech makes liberals feel uncomfortable.

Actually, none of that matters because it's loony toons territory. Bring us a real scandal that actually floats above the Trumposphere.

So presumably you're comfortable with Trump admitting that he's a sex offender who also openly admits that he has so few scruples that he's even willing to abandon those in exchange for sex in a beauty pageant he runs? Who admits purposefully walking in to womens' changing rooms without warning so he gets to see some boobs? This is the guy with the responsibility of maintaining a >trillion dollar economy and the nuclear codes, and he basically gives up his scruples for Skittles... this is the guy whom you're comfortable with such responsibility?

IDK about you but I can see a difference between high schoolers fantasies and what a rich and powerful adult says he actually does.
Yeah, me too. In the case of DT, that guy is just poster-boy sexual assault guy of all time, can anyone else compare? This will go down in history, folks, you'll see.

And, no, I have never engaged in that kind of talk among the guys about what I'd like to do with girls. Or done with girls, and I am no virgin! I don't believe in kiss and tell, etc.

Man, I'm with you 100% on this, I feel the same way, why would anyone vote for him. Trump has an ad showing Hillary looking straight into the camera and saying "why don't I lead this thing by 50%?" (not exact words, probably, but the 50% is accurate).

You are maybe in Wales. I asked my cousin's 11 YO child (they live in England), who visited the USA in August what they think of Trump over there. He's a very bright kid. He had one word: "disgraceful."

The one thing I can think of you can say positively about Trump, I suppose is the answer that Hillary gave when asked at the debate Sunday for a positive thing to say about him: He has great kids. I'm not sure how true that is, I have to wonder.

Why would anyone vote for him? How did he get the nomination? I think it has a lot to do with his celebrity by virtue of his The Apprentice reality TV show. Americans, most of them, are mesmerized by television. Myself, I have never seen that show, not for a second. I read his book, Art of the Deal and was very impressed. However, it turns out it was BS. The ghost writer came forward and said he feels extremely guilty for having put "lipstick on a pig." He now calls him a consummate liar.

However data shows his supporters aren't actually poor, but largely middle class for that matter. They're for example hardly competing against illegal immigrants but rather do like hating on them; perhaps because it's no longer socially acceptable to similarly hate on black people.

No, but it's fair to say anyone who doesn't understand basic statistics is stupid.

Also just a heads up that political correctness was created for the benefit of bigots to appear superficially less so. So it's not very smart to complain about having to use it.

Now that's quality bipartisan humor.

I would tend to agree since in the image trump was mocking a disabled person and clinton was excited. That might well reflect their fans at the moment.

I don't know what high school you're thinking of, but it's almost certain someone with the character defects of trump aren't going to win any anything with anywhere close to the current generations of kids.

People don't stick with just some reality star through thick and thin. But fortunately it turns out we do know what they have very strong feelings about through research.

Doesn't matter, it still upsets people he doesn't like because they don't like the same things he does. Priorities, man.

It's your house you're burning down to annoy them.
We have the choice between 2 distasteful choices but here is the difference I see. If Trump goes batshit crazy the Republicans wouldn't hesitate to impeach him whereas we have seen that Democrats will stick together even if she is seen running down the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue with a dead babies head on a pike.

weird. He's gone batshit crazy nearly a dozen times throughout this campaign yet they still push the guy forward. Yet, you are certain that not only will they eventually choose to impeach him the next time he does it, but that doing such as POTUS would be somehow easier than dealing with him at any time throughout the previous year?

fascinating.

Meh... I saw Rob Ford get elected in Toronto to mayor, then he got his job back as city councilor after dropping out for the mayoral race, and then he died and his ward elected his early 20s nephew.

I'd like any remaining Trump supporters to answer my question.
