It's OK, the money can come from the faith based and abstinence only programs that shouldn't even be there.

World resources are finite, and America uses more than its fair share. If we want to continue doing so, it's in our best interest to control overpopulation in other countries.

Shitty. I dont support abortion with tax payers money at home. Why would I support it with taxpayers in foreign countries?

He should get hammered over this considering the economic situation in this country.

Do you support faith-based abstinence-only education in foreign countries with taxpayer dollars? Because that's what currently in place, thanks to your hero.

Fuck no! I dont support abstinence only programs here.

To expand on this why is it our job to fund any of these sex education programs in foreign countries?

Because AIDS and other STDs are a huge fucking pandemic in Africa.

Again why is it our responsibility to educate people in a foreign country that STD's and AIDS are spread via unprotected sex?

It seemed to really suit this guy's fancy.

No? For the 3rd time, no more of your money is going anywhere-- the money you're ALREADY SPENDING for Bush & Co's "faith-based initiative" is being allocated to something that actually works.

Because it becomes a national security problem for us if everyone else in the world has AIDS. Global pandemics are important to stop regardless of human-drawn lines on a map, and African countries are incapable of properly providing the means to stop them.

Yeah so let's talk about wasting money OP, ever heard of abstinence-only education?

Haha you're joking right? Because after educating them about sex teenage pregnancies dropped. Syke! They exploded 80% in the next 2 years. Same happened in Great Brittain with their sex ed.

Sex ed was a failure and it's time the liberals admit the parents were right all along. Like usual.

You're full of shit, as usual. Prove those figures you just spewed and I might change my mind. Betcha you can't though...

No, you don't deserve to see them. You'd ignore them even if I showed them to your type, just like usual.

This is as much of a religion to your type as you claim it is to us (as if there were no grander consequences, which we see and are concerned about shielding this country from, to a society in which human life has no value).

Here's CDC data on teen pregnancies through 2006.

Notice how teen birth rates dropped 25%+ during the Clinton years, then the trend line began to flatten after Bush got elected and birth rates actually started increasing in 2005 (thanks abstinence only education ;)).

Obviously, soccerball was FOS when he said 80%.

I see what you did there

In regards to the OP, Obama. Didn't vote for you, and don't know if you're going to be able to fix the issues with this country. This, however, is a great start.

"WASHINGTON ? President Barack Obama plans to sign an executive order ending the ban on federal funds for international groups that promote or perform abortions, officials told The Associated Press on Friday.

The move, long expected in the Democratic president's first week in office, will be welcomed by liberals and criticized by abortion rights foes.

The policy bans U.S. taxpayer money, usually in the form of U.S. Agency for International Development funds, from going to international family planning groups that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion. It is also known as the "global gag rule," because it prohibits taxpayer funding for groups that even talk about abortion if there is an unplanned pregnancy.

Also known as the "Mexico City policy," it has been reinstated and then reversed by Republican and Democratic presidents since GOP President Ronald Reagan established it in 1984. President Bill Clinton ended the ban in 1993, but President George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office.

The Democratic official and senior U.S. official who disclosed the plans did so on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to pre-empt Obama's announcement.

Obama was expected to sign the executive order at a low-key event, one day after the 36th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion.

The move was not a surprise as both Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will oversee foreign aid, had promised to do away with the gag rule during the presidential campaign. Clinton is to visit the U.S. Agency for International Development, through which much U.S. foreign aid is disbursed, later on Friday.

Obama has spent his first days in office systematically signing executive orders reversing Bush administration policies on issues ranging from foreign policy to government operations. But, save for ending the ban, Obama has largely refrained from wading into ideological issues, perhaps to avoid being tagged a traditional partisan from the outset after his campaign promises to change "business as usual" in the often partisan-gridlocked capital.

Rather, Obama has chosen to focus initially on issues in which there is consensus across the political spectrum and support from the public, such as closing the prison camp for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to making government documents more accessible.

Organizations that had pressed Obama to make the abortion-ban change were jubilant.

"Women's health has been severely impacted by the cutoff of assistance. President Obama's actions will help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, abortions and women dying from high-risk pregnancies because they don't have access to family planning," said Tod Preston, a spokesman for Population Action International, an advocacy group. "

More tax money going out the door.
Reversing Bush's order, reversing Clintons's order, reversing Reagans order.

We likely should just learn to accept this, as a left/ right thing, even though majority of people don't approve of the use of federal funds that end up in the hands of abortion doctors..

Abstinence-only family planning and sex ed is worthless, so if we're going to give the aid money at least now it will accomplish something.

The same for sex ed and planning funds in the US: complete education means fewer welfare babies and teen pregnancies.

You'd prefer to have them be born and then die of AIDS or starve to death, right? God wants them to suffer?

Heh and AID's and STD and Civil warfare doesnt?

But that is a weak argument to use. Just because we have a high standard of living and it requires the comsumption of resources doesnt require us to teach other civilizations that sex with everybody can lead to pregnancy, aids, stds, and eventually death. They see it everyday. If they cant figure it out on their own tough luck, darwinisn kicks in.

Really? Did AIDS go airborne or something? What you are describing pertains to something like a flu virus. AIDS requires an action be taken, most of the time voluntarily to become infected. It isnt like if the entire continent of Africa becomes infect with AIDS it will jump on a cargo ship and infect the entire continent of North America.

The federal government should not be paying for a personal medical procedure that is in such dispute.

Good move, imho. The only thing that this was doing was making relief agencies tiptoe around things so they can continue to do their job without having their funding yanked. I don't see anything wrong with providing meaningful sex education and/or options to promote sexual health abroad. It isn't like we are going into every home and saying "Abortions are great! Have one today!" or something to that effect. I can *maybe* see the anti-abortion crowd getting up in arms, but the reality is that those protesting the reversal of this EO most likely want to reverse Griswald as well as Roe. That wouldn't fly anywhere in the US, even in the "red states". Sheesh, these people care more about blind idealogy than they do about people's health, especially considering the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

I would prefer that humans could show responsibility for their actions without have to somehow justify the murder of an innocent person to do so.

Every time human life is deemed worthless, we (willingly or unwillingly) take one step backwards and prove ourselves to be nothing more than animals.

A virus does not need to become airborne to cause a pandemic and spread across imaginary lines on a map. That really is irrelevant. Obviously we have plenty of AIDS in this country so it is capable of making its way across oceans. Anyway your railing against foreign aid in general which is fine but let's not pretend it isn't supported by both parties and has been for decades.
