I believe the POINT is that cold stores are transmitted by a simple kiss, where as type II is a virus spread through sexual contact. Yes if you have it on your mouth you can spread it someone else's mouth, but when you have it you know you have it. You can have the cold sores virus and only ever break out once and never know you still can infect others with it.

HSV-1 and HSV-2 can both cause gential herpes and can both be transmitted through sexual contact. Thus, both HSV-1 and HSV-2 are STDs.

You are wrong. HSV-1 and HSV-2 are both viruses. Both can be spread through sexual contact. Oral-to-genital contact can cause HSV-1 to cause gential outbreaks. Once you have HSV you have it for life...both types. Outbreaks, for HSV-1 and HSV-2, are not always apparent, but the virus is there.
