And I know it has two 160GB hard drives, but what does it mean in the bottom saying that "RAID 1 (W/ 2X400GB Hard Drive)"?

Average.

Do you think it has extra 800GB (2x400) hard drives?
I doubt it. Most likely it means that it supports up to 400GB HDs, or that the original HDs in there were 400GBs. But I am just guessing. The only way you'll find out is if you order it, unpack it, and hook it up/disassemble it.

They do make errors. I got a P4 3.4GHz instead of a 3.2GHz once (and many others did too).

If you do decide to buy it, I suggest you buy it only if you are happy with the deal as is, with 2 x 160GB HDs. This way you will not be disappointed.

No, 2X160. It says 2X400 at the bottom for any system w/ RAID.

What did you do after you found out it's 3.2GHz instead of 3.4?
Did you return it or get refunded? If so, how much?

I'd personally say "average."

We've seen a number which are substancially hotter, IMO.

If anyone wants to buy some systems for me I'm willing to pay an extra $10-20 per system. Of course I'd send you the money via PayPal right away or if you'd prefer a money order to avoid the fees that's fine with me as well...I'm just tired of the script stuff not working for me. Let me know if someone would be interested in doing this thanks.I have like 40-0 heat so I'm not going to scam anyone also have like 20-0 ebay if you like ebay feedback.

Not sure too many people would be down for this? in order to avoid shipping charges the systems would have to be shipped directly to you.

Anyone know how easy/hard it is to add an internal card reader. I just bought an outlet system and this is the one item it didn't have that was on my must have list.

Got a 3.0, XP PRO, 1 gig, 160 gig, SB Live, DVD and DVDRW for 744.00 Hard to find systems with XP PRO for too cheap.

Anytime I try to configure a non-outlet, I'm in the 12-1400 range no matter what I try.

Got a 1905FP earlier today for 325, so all in all a good system for around 1100.00. Not the hottest deal alive, but I'm ok with it.

It was the other way around. I got a free upgrade. I thought about it hard :) and decided not to complain.

When you have sales of $49 billion per year, even a relatively small percentage of returns will look like a lot.

That may be why those $300 8400's appear.

I believe the 16x Phillips is actually a rebadged BENQ 1620, which is one of the best burners you can get--right up there with NEC for quality. I have it in my 8400 I got a week ago, but I haven't tried flashing it yet, just read about it on some dvd sites. Too busy moving my crap over from my old computer!

I wish there was someway to sort by software package - I buy these for the office pretty regularly and need to get things with office small business licenses but about 5% of them have it. It's cheaper to upgrade XP home to pro than to upgrade office.

8400 p4 630 cpu, 1gb ram, floppy, 80gb hd, cdrw, dvdrw, 128 mb x300 vid card, faxmodem for $609 out the door

average or good?

what i really would like is a 3.2 ghz cpu, 1 gb ram, 80gb hd, x300 vid card and a dvdrom for really cheap but i nvr pursued the scripting approach

*edit
and do these 8400's have an ide interface to hang some older drives off of?

Average. And, yes, both sata and pata.

When I opened the 8400 I got on Friday it looked like a new PC ! everything was shiny, not a scratch on it .. new keyboard, new mouse.. all manuals sealed.. the inside does not have a spec of dust on it !! that can't be a refurbished system !! even thought the red sticker on the bottom says so .. did anyone get a refurb. that looked really used with some dust on the inside, or scratches on the case !?

Maybe the refurb. is just a marketing scheme, it does not really exist .. it caters to the phsycology of people who loves to buy something labeled as a good deal !
