i just let this one go. damn you bamacre for tempting me 🙂

like rugby, im sitting on a few that i need to get rid of first... and theres that damaged 3.46 i need to take care of since they swapping me a completely diffeent system... 🙁
maybe there will be cheaper 3.73 that show up soon

to those who have the cash, 1844 fora 3.73 with GTO and 1GB and 500GB HDD is not a bad deal. not great for reselling, but good for the hardcore gamer

Picked up this tonight:

~$285 (w/ tax)
Dimension 4700
P4 520
512 MB
80 GB SATA
16x DVD-ROM

Not too bad (at least from what I can see), picked this up for a colleague and if he doesn't want it, will eBay it off I guess ... all you specialists what would this auction off for so I know what around to charge him for it ...

gshock don't ship back part of the system (just the sucky parts). There is a chance they might not notice. There is a chance they might notice. Do you think you are the only one who has thought of that? If they notice that they can a)charge you for the full price of both systems and you'll have no recourse b)sue you for fraud c)prosecute you for fraud. In the worst case scenario, you're looking at tens of thousands of dollars in fines and a year in prison. If you don't live in Texas they can get the feds involved and push for interstate fraud. Sound worth it for all your wheelin' and dealin'? I'm not saying that you're somebody who would do something like that but I'm just pointing out the rewards vs the possible issues. Just take care of it the right way - if you don't want the system send it back. Call them and complain about the uneven trade.

Any of you ebay gurus wanna help me sell some of my old computers I have here in storage? Not out too make a profit or resell dell systems just need to get rid of my old stuff laying around. You guys look like you really know how to ebay this stuff lol. I've never sold anything on ebay before. PM me if you can help me out.

Thanks

Yeah, I've got a bridge I've been trying to get rid of for years but I don't know anything about real estate. If somebody can help me sell it PM me.

LOL@smartt

So I've been lurking on this thread for a while, just for curiosity since I don't need a new system; it turns out my aunt is in the market for a new desktop so I'll be joining the fray here. I'm also thinking about writing a perl script since I know some Perl. Anyone have any links/suggetions for the scripts? Once I get my script running, who knows, maybe I'll just tun it indefinitely and let you guys take advantage of it, like add it to to my cart, and then have it automatically post on here when it's about to drop stuff! yeah right...if that's all I had to do 8 hours a day!

Will it have a direct-drop capability? 🙂

time got tight so i bought a refurb 8400 for $499 (tax/ship included)
p4 540 3.2 ghz, 512mb ram, 80gb hd, dvd, cdrw, x300 vid, modem

the $10% off coupon and free 3 day shipping was still available

in my haste i neglected to notice it was only 512 mb ram (ARGH, suddenly this is not a deal) and i wanted 1 gb. is the best solution to sell the existing and buy 2x512 sticks?

i dont want the cdrw, is it even worth ebaying that piece?

I called Dell about my broken 8400 this morning. After a 20 min hold I spoke with a Customer Care rep. He gave me a case number and said that they will be sending out a replacement computer and I should see it in 7-10 days.

As a curosity, where can I go look at the new system before it gets here ?. I know some people have talked about "seeing" the replacement before it shows up but I logged into my account and don't see any new orders. Could it take a day or so to update and reflect the new system they are sending out ?.

WOW

I have spent the last hour reading this thread and the thread on FW.

This is insane! It's like information overload...need to nibble instead of gobble....

Oh yeah...if you could only do multiple selections in the drop down lists, and also EXCLUDE certain things...like only P4 processors....exclude all Celerons, or only p4s 3.0Ghz and higher....or get it to display more than 10 at a time.

anybody ever figure out how to do any of those things (scripting or otherwise?)

I am "seeing" the order when i go into my account and all of a sudden a 4000+ machine popped up. (yeah right 4000)

When you "see" it, that means its already done and nothing you can do about it but bitch if you are getting an uneven exchange like me. I'm about to go home and see how the parts are, and then I will make contact with the Dell peeps over at India. Hopefully the one I've been dealing with will follow up on this uneven crap-change since he or she has been quite helpful in getting me what I want. (or not! or else why would i have this crap now!)

And they dont build you a new system to replace a refurb like I assumed before. No thats just stupid business practice. They find a "similar" system configured that was dumped into outlet and ship it to you.

Again I got screwed because a

3.46 1066FSB EE, X850XT, 4GB, 3x160

is replaced with

3.8 800FSB, 6800 vanilla, 4GB and 2x160

who the hell they think i am? a user? 🙁

Why are you even exchanging the system? Why not just get a service call set up and have the existing computer fixed?

You know, had they offered that this morning I probably would have taken them up on it (and honestly I didn't think of it either till you just suggested it) but when I called the morning to talk about it the first response was "well sir, I will get an approval and send you out a new "tower". Now maybe I'm wrong here and they just intend to send out a new case but I doubt it.

Had he asked to set up a call to fix the case I guess that would have been ok as well. I guess if I had needed the system in a hurry I might have pressed but honestly the offer for another system sounded ok and I'm not in a gotta have it now mode.

Maybe I'm now starting to figure out how they end up with so many refurbs......

i didnt want to talk to their stupid techies in india. i know im biased. but i hate talking to them and they talk to me like i dont know what im talking about while its actually them who has no idea...

i figured the easy way is to find out if i can do an even exchange, which is what i hoped for... now im screwed... 🙁

It's kind of funny, like I said earlier, I spent 20 min with the online chat person Sat night. His name was super long but "I could call him Jay". When went through this long thing about what was the problem, etc. Then he asked when I got the system. I told him last week, on the 6th.
He then actually accused me of lying about it. He told me that I called 6 times on the 18th. I told him I just got it last week, this went back and forth until I mentioned that it was a refurb (this was after I had given him my customer number and order number).
I'm guessing that he only could see the service tag and nothing more.

Its strange to hear this about Dell CS after my experience.

I bought a cheap 4700 MCE2005 2.8 GHz/256MB/40GB/CDRW/DVD/Sound card/modem for $253 shipped. When I turned it on it took a very long time to boot. Modem and sound card will not show up in the Device Manager also.
I called the customer service and talked to a very nice guy, who apologized first and then asked me what did I want. I asked him to give me a working system. It took him about 10 minutes and he told me that they will be sendng another system by Monday (I called on Thursday). Today I recieved the system and it is 2.8Ghz/512MB/80G/DVD/DVD+-/128X300

Well finally got a decent system this morning, not great but okay.

4700 w/WinXP Home
P4 2.8 Ghz
512 MB RAM
80 GB SATA HD
16x DVD-ROM
128 MB X300 SE
Key/Mouse

ended up at 323 before tax, added a monitor and speakers and got the free shipping for a total of $467 shipped for a complete system. Went to Newegg and picked up a modem, cd burner, and floppy drive (and free cd book!), now we have a complete system for $500 for my in-laws (they had like....a pentium....so.....sloooooooooow).
