Another hockey loss for mens team USA. Sadly, IMO, they don't deserve to qualify for the next round.

3rd is pretty damn good, just look at all those countries with zero medals...

I'm surprised China isn't doing better too, maybe they don't put enough money into it, or maybe they just aren't into things like halfpipe and ice hockey.

Than again how is Norway ahead of us?

What a shame...USA is always at the top:(:disgust::Q

I looked through 20 years of medal tables and did not find one with the USA at the top. Their most common position is 5th.

And what, exactly, is wrong with Germany and Norway?

/Edit: removed personal insult which seemed over the top after that beer.

No, I didn't check summer, but this _is_ the winter olympics thread.

Fair enough. The US does very well in the summer olympics, so well in fact that I think the EU should enter as a single country to provide more of a challenge, I even made a thread about it. Someone pointed out that adding up the medal totals of all the EU countries would make _them_ too dominant though, so the problem wouldn't go away, just be moved.

Bob Costas sucks. I just hope the Olympics ratings continue to decline until somebody at NBC asks the question: Is it possible our coverage isn't all it could be? Maybe we should give some serious thought to shaking up our concept of Olympics coverage.

If you are watching this stuff and not timeshifting, how are you keeping your sanity?

They really need to get some old tapes from ABC to see how to cover them properly. I doubt it is going to happen though since the reason they are now covered the way they are is supposed to draw more female viewers. Supposedly they like to hear all the Costas pontificating and personal backstory BS rather than just watch as many competitions as possible.

i think all medal rankings should be done normalized to the population.

EU's medal's per 10,000 people would be average i'd think with Germany being high most of the other european country's being low.

India and China on a per population basis would do horrible.

Japan and Korea would do ok, with japan fairing better.

the US would probably do very well.

What REALLY sucks is that I have digital cable with all of the "On Demand" channels, and yet I STILL have no way of watching Olympic coverage of just the sports that I want to watch. If I can watch an episode of "The Sopranos" or a DVR recorded copy of "24" whenever I want, why can't I just watch all of the Curling or Biathalon coverage for that day?
