What it Won?t Do

Two of the most recent rumors that have been crushed include WebTV and TiVo/PVR functionality. While the Xbox 360 can stream recorded video from a Windows Media Center PC, it does not have the functionality to act as a server like a PVR does. Being that the majority of Xbox owners move their console from room to room, having PVR functionality just didn?t make sense. Likewise, most game consoles haven?t proven successful in providing viable Internet browsing functionality, so Microsoft chose to nix any type of WebTV features. And no, it will not include a DVD burner, so please stop with the rumors!

Backward compatibility with the current generation Xbox has not yet been determined. We hear that Microsoft is trying hard to include the feature, but only time will tell if things work out. We don?t expect any new details on backward compatibility until well after this year?s E3.

Well after? BOOOO!

Always Connected
The Xbox 360 will come complete with a ?Silver? version of the Xbox Live service, allowing gamers to create their own profile, Gamertag, voice chat and messaging, access to the Xbox Live Marketplace, Xbox Live Arcade, and more. This also means that ALL games will support a unified Friends list, voice chat, game invites, etc.

Jesus, 1 Teraflop?

To put this into perspective, it took over 160 2GHz G5 G5 CPU's to reach 1 TeraFlop.

And to think the majority of these will probably be used on years old 19" tv's that make anything look like crap :)

Forgot to put a huge disclaimer that these specs can still change.

The fine print basically says that anything can change at any time, nothing is guaranteed as far as specs are concerned..... But it has to be comparable to whatever the devs are using.

No mention of a PPU. Probably will use one of the three cores to handle physics processing. I'd bet Nintendo and/or Sony to hype up a PPU in their next-gen consoles.

Hasn't been officially announced. Probably have to wait for E3.

Heh, so true....what a waste :p

At least I can mostly do it justice with my LCD monitor....:)

(Any word on whether it will output DVI...?)

Anal rape-age of pretty much any consumer level CPU, and most enterprise level.

As I said, to put in in to perspective, Virginia Tech needed over 160 2 GHz G5 cores to reach 1 Teraflop of Floating Point performance, and this is doing it with 3 cores.

It's difficult to compare because these PowerPC processors are not x86 processors... so they don't necessarily have the same "parts."

If the cpu is so good, and I assume xbox 320 will sell for around 300 (in that neighborhood, because it has to be affordable to gamers), why the hell don't they put that cpu in PC's??

Probly because it's not really usuable alone.

Uhhh....look at how long it has taken for 64-bit processing to make it to mainstream (ie Wintel) platforms. That said, dual-core processors are just now coming out for PCs.

Now, what would be really cool is if Mac OS X had compatibility for this processor architecture and someone found a way to Hack the 360 to let us install it. Imagine a desktop computer with 1 Teraflop of FP performance. I would cream myself every night.

And yes, I know this is a pipe dream.
