Looks like an interesting card and certainly is beating the 7800512. But I wonder if it will be able to handle the G71 if the rumored specs come true.

Clearly it appears this card is ahead of its time if you ask me. Games are simply not taking full advantage of its capabilities. But I suspect games like Quake Wars and other highly intensive games will make this game leave the X1800XT or 7800512 in the dust.

The only question I have to ask is, what can we expect from the next generation? We have seen a huge jump in performance in just the past 10 months all within the same generation of cards. This is getting crazy if you ask me 😉

Just a question that I am sure I have asked and had anwered. They refer to the ALUs in the R580s pipeline as pixel processors, each pipeline has 3 pixel processors. Doesnt the 7800 have 2 pixel processors in each of its pixel pipes?

I bet Anand has something up his sleeve as usual. I bet NVDA sent him a pre-production G71 to bench with, including beta drivers.

Of course, if he does have one, he'll use it and crown it king despite the fact it won't be on store shelves for two months...no comment on a hard launch!

Each pixel shader has 2 ALU's on both Nv and Ati cards. When they say 48 pixel shaders, they really do mean 48 pixel shaders, with 2 ALU's each.

this question has been asked so many times, I just had to use bold text...

So I wonder what is holding back the performance of this chip? CPU performance?

Most probably drivers as has also been discussed. Most sites are using 5.13 catalysts that dont officially support the new cards.

I also cant wait for my favourite review sites to post.
Firing squad, Xbit, and Anand

No question though the new ATI cards are top dogs. I would imagine that they will get better with mature drivers, but very nice indeed.

anyone interested here in 5-10 more FPS?? this generation is not interesting, nothing new added!! i think by the time DX10 arrives we will have better gfx cards performance and features..

Eh, not too impressed, hopefully the G71 can do better or I'm skipping this generation and waiting on the 6XX or G80.

Well I am wondering if we are churning the props on air due to CPU's not delivering enough performance increases.

Or the games are simply not able to take advantage of a card like the x1900xt

Meh, I for one am pretty impressed with the new Jan 24th reviews. It beats the crap out of the normal 7800GTX as well as the X1800.

I'm still wondering where the X1700 is, though... I mean, $600? Jeez.

Im just impressed with the hard launch, ATi took a good idea and ran with it.

Now if both companies can do it every time, ill be ecstatic.

This thing is a shader monster, i cant wait to see how G71 shapes up.

i think its a nice card. nothing for me to get but i'll be interested to see how it performs with the new drivers. although i think the 1800 still has something in the tank with the new cats.

anyway, nice refresh.

two things about the reviews. i wish they'd stop benching it against vaporware. and why does AT use 1280x960 instead of 12x10, is there a reason?

these badboys are available in all flavours from most of ATI's major AIB partners.....go ATI....i can pick up a X1900XTX for £470 (inc vat) and from what ive seen im really tempted too! though it would be sensible to wait for G71

Depends on whether or not AA is turned on.
who's buying a $500 + card and not enabling AA 😕

The 1900XTX vs. 7800GTX 512 is not a battle I am really interested in.

How soon until we see 1900XL vs. 7900GT benches? Bring on the next-gen $300-$400 parts!
