With England beating Paraguary and Sweden tying T&T, the Sweden - Paraguay match is now going to be THE game as far as the group is concerned. England are in good shape with T&T up next, but the other two teams will know that the outcome of their next game should decide who goes through as the #2 team in the group.

Great thread Mwilding.

I'll be watching the rest of this game. Didn't know about Mexico's goalies father passing.

That's about the dumbest thing said so far...

Mexico clearly were the better team today in their 3-1 win. Nice bit of class by the Iranian goalie to give the Mexican goalie flowers.

Off to watch Portugal - Angola

Player with luckiest shot Team will win.

Not a whole lot of skill with this game.

As usual, Dave is trolling trolling trolling. Iran had one or two guys that ever scared Mexico. Otherwise, Mexico was entirely in control, and they have the much better team.

The coach and the first assistant of Togo left the team after the players have struck at four training days because of a salary conflict. The Togolese soccer association will recieve at least 7 mil. ? for the participation. The conflict hasn''t been solved for months. At the beginning the association offered 50'000 Euro for each player while they demanded 155'000.

President of the association is Rock Gnassingbé, son of the passed away dictator and brother of the current president. According to the press, the family disposed politically incompetent Rock in the football association. And the players aren't exactly advertising for Togo either. Stuff like this makes me mad :|

I'm asking myself if Togo can even play the three group games under these circumstances. At least Switzerland won't encounter a challenging opponent in the game vs. Togo...

It's a shame about Togo. It does make my prediction that Henry will win the Golden Boot more likely...

Togo is a politically corrupt island and has been so for the last 60 years. Sad but true.
Off shore banking is thier main income and little to none is used to meet the ppls needs.
Like roads, schools, medical care, etc.

Monday Team USA ranked #5 vs Team Czech ranked #2, according to BBC Sports.
I'll be glued to the TV, snacks at hand :)

I think you have Togo confuse with another country. Togo is not an island.

Well, they outclassed Angola the whole game, but failed to put up a score that demonstrated that fact...

I thought they were alright, nothing great. As a long time fan of Figo, I thought he was pretty good.

Unfortunately was offline all weekend, but enjoyed all the games (although the England game was tediously dull). Really enjoyed the Argentina/Ivory Coast game and so far all the 'big' teams have shown they have weaknesses that can be exploited.

Looking forward to today's games - hope Essien can inspire Ghana to a shock!

I work for a Dutch company and I have to say that it is typical of the Dutch to criticize the star of the game because he made his teamates look bad...

Still sucking off the teat of "unfair prosecution" I see... Kindly exit the thread if you have nothing to contribute...

Oh, and where's CPA... I want to rub a 3-0 drubbing by Czech Republic in his face... :D

Follow-up about Togo: The coach is back for the game tomorrow vs. South Korea. He's not sure if he'll leave again after the game because the salary conflict isn't over yet.
