For several years I've been using the M$ Trackball Explorer 1.0 for everything except gaming. For gaming I've been using the M$ Intellimouse Explorer V3.0. Both models have been discontinued and recently I've had a couple of both types fail mostly the cable failed. So after a little research I order the Logitech G7 and M$ Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 which I should have tomorrow. (ZipZoomFly has free 2 day shipping on these items.) So I get to try some different mice.

The cable on the Explorer mice actually plugs into the circuit board making it easy to replace. I've pulled other M$ mice apart and they tend to have the cable soldered in. It would be nice to find a source of replacement cables.

I use an MX500 on my laptop and an MX510 on my desktop and a red 2nd gen Logitech Optical mouse w/ the 800dpi sensor at work, I actualy started w/ the 2nd gen logitech and have just cycled each mouse down a step as I've replaced various mice.

I just went from a MX500 to a Razer Copperhead. Quite a difference. I love the sensitivity of the Razer, but the logitech is more comfortable to hold.

One thing nice about the razer is that you don't have to mess with bloated drivers. The configurations are stored on the mouse itself, so once you have your mouse configured, you don't even have to have the drivers installed!

Well, I received the Logitech G7 and its nice, very nice. I also got the M$ Intellimouse Explorer 4.0A and its okay but clearly not even in the same country as the G7.

The reason I ask is that my current mouse is broken and I plan on getting *exactly* that one
It's expensive, but trackballs seem pratical to me (though I must admit I never actually used one)

I know people who game just fine with trackballs. Probably just takes some time using it. To each his own.

Saitek X45 Combo (great for copters in BF2 before the quadruple nerf. still great, but I can get a higher k/d ratio randomly tosssing grenades now that they've been turned into flying coffins).

There is no lag in the G7 cordless, FYI. The next person who says don't go cordless because of lag, I'm going to ask him if he thinks cars only come in black because of when he bought his Model T. The mx700 didn't have any either, but it weighed a ton, whereas the G7 is remarkably light for a cordless. They managed to make it light by using the quick change battery packs which are small and light. I even take it to work now, since I don't have to take anything else besides the tiny usb receiver.

The only negative on the G7 is cost. I suppose people who can't afford one can stick with their Model T fud, their loss.
