saw ut last night and was underwhelmed. I wanted to smack Cruise from the start, and once the kid started trying to join the army, I wanted to punch him too....the constant scenes of crusie and the kid arguing were garbage...

I saw it last night. The audience actually booed the ending. They booed for 5 minutes straight, I've never seen anything like it. It was a surprisingly adult audience as well...no teenagers in sight.

Oh, and the movie was great up until the ending. The defeat of the aliens was expected, but the sappy family reuniting was obnoxious and way too quick.

You know, I didn't remember much of the book (haven't read it since I was a kid), but you're right, the character does meet up with his wife again back at home, doesn't he? For some reason, I thought they died...oh well, I still think the last 15 minutes' pacing was awful. And just to make it clear...I wasn't one of the ones booing, I was just shocked, I've never seen an audience react like that.

So what if the movie is true to the books or the original movie. If an ending is unrealistic, it is unrealistic no matter it is true to the book or not. Maybe it's just a bad idea to bring a 100+ year old "science fiction" to today's theater without rewrite the script a bit. I mean virus or bacteria may seem mysterious and uncurable back then, but today we have many ways to deal with it. If we travel to some third world country, we are advised to take precaution, mayb take some shots or whatever. It's just hard for today's audience to accept alien supposed to be much advanced then us don't know about preparing themself against possible virus/bacteris/pollution in the new environment, or have no clue how to cure those things.

I did enjoyed the movied except the unrealistic ending, good visual and sound effects. Decent acting and character interactions.

Not that that really matters. I enjoyed the movie.

Just saw the movie and wasn't impressed.

A lot of inconsistencies and stupidity in the movie. The guy's camcorder working after the EMP. The clothes falling from the sky intact. The military needing Tom to point out the shields are down. His son surviving was not necessary. A 6/10 at best.

Also, in the part where the van was stopped to let the girl use the restroom, I could have sworn there was one frame where one of the characters was opening the rear of the van, then the next angle it was closed as if it were bad editing.

I had great expectations for this movie, at least Batman Begins did not disappoint.

considering "war of the worlds" was written long before we were born, i highly doubt they copied independance day the movie.

if you werent implying that it was a copy of ID4 then i was wrong and you can ignore my comment.

I'm implying that War of the Worlds has the same basic plot and its really nothing new. I thought Spieldburg would come up with something little bit more intelligence and creative....like Minority Report.

I saw the film last weekend. It was good, but not stellar.

I know when i begin my invasion of another planet, i will include Vaccinations for various things in my invasion kit, just in case.

Hmm, so rather than be faithful to the classics of some of the greatest writers ever (sci-fi notwithstanding) we should change the end to jazz it up. Hmm. Sounds great. Of course then you get crap like I, Robot, that make's Asimov look like a hat and compares nothing to the source material.

Thankfully Spielberg and Peter Jackson in Lord of the Rings had some respect for their source material.
