Saw it. Everything was pretty cool up until the around the end. The sappy son living part sucked. I already knew the cold would kill the aliens so not really upset with that.

Oh, did Tom Cruise kill the crazy guy in the basement? Missed that part. The basement part with the scanner sucked too.

Not that that really matters. I enjoyed the movie.

I thought the exace same thing but looked a little closer and the camera angle was actually from inside the kitchen showing his reflection on the window. So you wouldn't see the peanut butter.

I liked the movie, was a perfect summer flick. I like some other people could have done without the kid showing up (I didn't read the book so they might have been keeping true that). Also Tim Robbins "psyco" roles are all the same (think he has done this same role in 3 movies now) and I kinda wish someone else would have played this role. Those are just minor points though, I enjoyed the movie, especially the mass destruction/effects by the aliens. :p

EMP blasts only affect electronics that turned on, right? Maybe the camcorder was turned off.

maybe it was something other than EMP?

Also, did anyone notice that the performance of the little girl was annoying? I actually thought she took a step back in her acting skills...

"The ending was the same as in the book"

That doesn't mean the ending was good, it means the ending in the book sucked, as well.

What is up with all the Sci Fi these days ignoring the science and just going with the fiction. Explain yourself gawdamnitt... thats what makes Sci Fi so great... that it's theoretically possible.

Independance Day anyone?

considering "war of the worlds" was written long before we were born, i highly doubt they copied independance day the movie.

if you werent implying that it was a copy of ID4 then i was wrong and you can ignore my comment.

I'm implying that War of the Worlds has the same basic plot and its really nothing new. I thought Spieldburg would come up with something little bit more intelligence and creative....like Minority Report.

You do know that Minority Report was also a (short) story as well, right?

Well, other than the basic premise of having pre-cogs determining crime and the name of Tom Cruise's character and him being accused of murder, the short story and the movie didn't have alot in common.

I really enjoyed the movie, even the ending. I hope everyone realises that when you are basing a movie off a story or doing a remake, you can't really change key points... like the freaking ending! This is the same as with AI, the story was written and he directed it as it was told

I don't think its teh cold that killed the aliens... it was our own bacteria/immune system

Anyone else think that the whole scene where Tom Cruise is driving the Mini-Van on the parkway was little off. With all those cars stranded i'm sure at one point he would have hit a roadblack, but he easily was going around things.

Worse than that was the scene where the airplane crashed. Just jump in your car and drive off through a nice open path where there's no debris. Don't think so!

You're right I haven't read the book so I didn't kow the story going into this movie. However, since people seem to agree that the movie was directed the way way as the book..I would have to say this is a terrible story. There was no real closure...I felt like I was watching a really long The Twilight Zone episode.

saw it and didnt like it... from my experience with other movies that come from "great books"... i think it was the director's fault.

The performance of the girl was ANNOYING... someone please put tape around her mouth.... any kid would act that way... but I guess I expected her to act like a grown up(like in other movies)....

I would have preferred to see a little more ass kicking... once the shields were out, I wanted to see f-16's blasting the hell out of those tripods....

I think the idea is interesting( the whole ameba/bacteria/virus thing) being responsible for killing the aliens.... but the director could have done a better job. I am sure the book is better.

Yeah i though the same thing also. The original movie concentrated a lot more on try to destroy the aliens, this version concentrated on tom cruise's family trying to survive.

I think there was only that one scene where you see jets flying by shooting but they don't show the missiles hitting the aliens.

well i just saw it. overall i liked it. imo one of the better sci-fi movies in years; that probably doesn't mean much though considering the candidates :D

the ending was just fine imo. along with tripods, heat rays etc that ending is really one of the things that define "war of the worlds." what i really wanted to see more of though was earth military getting obliterated. i don't remember seeing tanks and planes getting vaporized :(

Just saw it today. I agree with what a couple of people here have said so far. I'm glad that I don't read too much into the movie. It was a great summer flick. I didn't go for character development, I didn't go for a fleshed out ending.

First up, the sound was amazing. I jumped in my seat ATLEAST 3 or 4 times till I got used to the sounds. Second up, the visual effects are pretty damn good. Third up, Cruise acually acted in this one! Great job by him IMO, very great job.

I thought independance day was better, even though both movies had crappy endings imo.

Finally saw this movie yesterday and pretty much enjoyed it. I have the same gripes as some of you, especially with there always being a convenient path through all the stopped traffic and airplane debris.

One thing I didn't see anybody mention. TOM CRUISE THROWS LIKE A GIRL!!

OK, first let me apologize to any girls who can actually throw a baseball/softball properly, hey - it's just a saying....

But, the guys elbow is too low when he throws and he looked totally unatural throwing in the movie. Sheesh, you would think he could afford a few pitching lessons!!

Absolute crap. The original was 10 times the movie that this turd is.
Cruise proves that he is a sub-talented actor who's only talent is running, and having chicks think he looks hot.
The girl needs to be taken to the shed and bitch slapped for hours,
the boy is a typical teen-aged snot that could have been played better by almost anyone on ATOT.

Contrived garbage, the boy dissapears near the middle of the picture and walks out of grandma's house at the end ? Stupid.
