Two footed, studs up and late into his ankle. Red is not outrageous in that situation.

Mastroeni and De Rossi. Watch the replays, you will see that both red cards were definitely legitimate for red. Ref will get a lot of stick but he was left with little choice out in a rough match.

I feel that the red cards were both deserved. Bruce Arena should bring Eddie Johnson in and drop Donovan back into the midfield. I'd probably take Convey out.

No. Mastroeni was clearly going for ball, but got ankle instead because of the speed of play. That is NOT a red card. Red cards are for plays that intentionally hurt or attempt to hurt a player.

Not true, a player can be red carded for committing a serious foul. I believe Matroeni's tackle can be classified as a serious foul - two footed late tackle into the Italian's ankles.

He was going for the ball, but the ball was long gone and all was left was his feet. Came in hard with studs up and ball nowhere to be found. That is a red. Not as violent as an elbow to the face, but red nonetheless.

What was late about it? The slide was already in-action when the ball was kicked away. What would you have the US player do, break his own foot to stop himself?
