I wonder if a different driver version would help...

I want to apologise to everyone for my Angry/Rude out of line comment. I just came out of Surgery and was in pain and feeling crabby. Normally I pick my words far more wisely.

I will be mindful in the future of how I respond.

Does anyone actually know what the max safevolt is on the 780? I mean.. With my Accelero Xtreme iii i should hit Maxvolt before I hit maxtemp, which is the case right now..

Also i have a modded 780 bios so I can also go up that high.

Edit: 1.212 seems to be the highest with a modded bios. How does that fare when running with it 24/7?

I thought the 780 was supposed to be on par with the 690? I see no 780's getting close to my score of 1900+...... Just a thought.

I use a fan curve where a 10 degree increase in temp equals a 10% increase in fan speed. So 70C = 70% fan speed, bare in mind this is the EVGA ACX cooler here. At 1.212 volts I'm at 75C on average. I'd say as long as you can keep it below 80C, your good. Problem is, is that we can't check VRM temps on the 780.

I dont go above 60*C with my Accelero @ 1.212V.. And could 1.212 work 24/7? Or would that be too much tearing on the card?

& I'm not too familiar with all the shorts and what everything does. VRM, what is that exactly and what does it do? And how does not seeing the temps on it affect us?

1.2 volts is the max nvidia allows on a stock bios. adding .012 to it via a bios mod is not going to make the card unstable/unsafe to use 24/7. VRM = Voltage Regulation Module, controls voltage for the card. Not being able to see temps means we have to be careful how much voltage we pour into the cards. In the past when I owned ATI cards I've seen VRM temps reach 110C when over-volting.

Personally I just overclock for benchmarks. It's fun to push the card to its absolute limit and compete on forums, but for regular gaming use? Not needed. My card boosts to 1.1GHz by itself 24/7 anyway, adding an extra 150mhz isnt going to make a huge difference. Especially if it requires upping the voltage.

Edit: The main reason to flash the bios on these cards is not the .012 volt increase, its to increase the max power target from 106%.

 Good on you for writing that  Very few have the balls to admit when they've been an ass! IMO you've just shown everyone (regardless of benchmark scores and horrendous penile reduction surgery) that you have a decent set..

That's still an impressive score for one card , wish I could achieve clocks like that in SLI! Might add another inch..

That guy at WalMart been telling you porkies again?

A fair comparison would be to take your GTX 690 and replace those lil GK104 chips and modest 256bit bus with TWO beastly (and considerably larger) GK110 chips with glorious 384bits of Bandwidth. Bench>Compare..

Thanks for your comment. Sinus surgery is the suck to be sure, in pain and on meds doesnt help clear thoughts when commenting.

Why are these scores so close? I would think that a 780/i7 3770k combo would smoke a 7970/FX8350. Especially at comparable clocks. :\

I would have thought so too ..just goes to show how beastly a HD7970/FX8350 combo can be in the right hands.

Haha, I like this GTX 690 fella. "Derp GTX 690 is da best." It's like when balla had the GTX470 SLI that dominated everything.

ATTENTION: If there is anyone in this thread that owns an Nvidia GTX 690, please be aware that Afterburner is now offering 1.3v overvoltage, so enjoy your new (EVEN HIGHER) scores. (Same goes for 99% of 780 & Titan owners - up to 1.32v + 170% power). End PSA.

I'm sure he likes you too! the GTX 690 fella seems mysterious, an enigma that randomly surfaces to share his adventurous plight for supremacy whilst stroking his long shiny card .. you don't think he's named himself after it by any chance? o_O Nah no-way!

Thanks for the info about Afterburner, I noticed how you worded "please be aware" I choose to decipher that as "please beware" Damn 1.32v !! A watercooling project might now be on the cards for this summer to explore this a little further..

I don't recall having 470 SLI that dominated everything. I do recall saying since they were connected by tubes they were one card and should be considered as such though.

Did some rough math based on these scores and current aprx pricing. I eyeballed median score and aprx market price. No suprises but you can see how much each point of performance costs.

GPU Median Score Cost Cost per point
Titan 1750 $999.00 $0.57
780 1500 $650.00 $0.43
770 1050 $400.00 $0.38
7970 1000 $310.00 $0.31
680 1000 $410.00 $0.41
7950 950 $205.00 $0.22
670 900 $310.00 $0.34
7870 750 $185.00 $0.25
