So, what's up with this protest thing that cost Armstrong, among others, a bunch of time yesterday or the day before??

they're protesting the jailing of a french farmer who crapped in a mcdonalds or something, and also torched some "genetically engineered" food (all food is genetically engineered

)

the stupid thing is that the fvcktards in charge of the race determined that it was a normal race obstacle and that the riders would have to negotiate it.

Nothing. The guys in the breakaway (already 20 minutes up the road at that point) are all so far back in the standings that being detained by protested for two minutes had no bearing on the overall picture. No way in hell was the peloton going to catch the leaders even if they wanted to and they didn't want to. Why bust your ass to bring back no-hopers after three days in the Alps?

Link to coverage of yesterday's stage.

More info on Le Tour than you could shake a stick at. :D

Watch the recap tonight. You'll get to see all the good stuff without the boring parts where the peloton is doing essentially nothing. The stages in the Alps were awesome.

Man I really hope I can watch it, but I don't have cable =/

A friend with cable? Or you can go to a sports bar and ask nicely for them to change the channel on one of the TVs. Usually works for me....I watched Sunday's stage from the patio of a local joint with some friends while munching wings and beer. :D

Well, it depends how you look at it. The appeal of a bike race is that much of who wins/loses in tough stages (like the Alps) comes down to mental toughness in many ways. Watching the ebb and flow of attacks and responses, taking into consideration that these guys are riding at the limit of their abilities, is pretty cool IMO. The descents on tiny mountain roads at 60+ mph on half-inch wide tires are certainly interesting. :D

I guess it's like any other sport, you really need someone to explain the fine points before it makes sense and has appeal. Cycling is a very tactical sport, believe it or not, so it just looks like guys riding bikes if you don't have some insight into what's really happening.

Iwish he had picked up more of a lead while he was in the Alps
He should pick up time of a lot of the guys in the top 10 in the individual time trial on Friday. Guys like Mayo can climb well, but they can't time trial for squat.

They Pyrenees should be interesting.

Doesn't work when you take drafting into account. The guy sitting on your wheel will wait until you're good and tired and then blow your doors off. ;)

It sounds at least as "awesome" as guys running around a field or throwing balls through a metal ring, doesn't it?

Those who don't see biking as a interesting sport, that's just how you look at it.

It's basically the same for people who don't see the appeal in football/basketball/etc...

comparing basketball and football to pedaling a bicycle? please...

although if by "guys running around a field" you meant baseball or soccer then i agree wholeheartedly

What specifically puts basketball and football into the realm of appeal for you over something like cycling? Just curious.

You obviously haven't seen some of the podium girls presenting the day's prizes at the end of each stage. :D

Where can I see a video of the crash that sent Armstrong riding off into the field?
