Where can I see a video of the crash that sent Armstrong riding off into the field?
A crapload of other clips from this year's race.

It sounds at least as "awesome" as guys running around a field or throwing balls through a metal ring, doesn't it?
comparing basketball and football to pedaling a bicycle? please...
although if by "guys running around a field" you meant baseball or soccer then i agree wholeheartedly

Will he get a penalty for cutting across the feild?
Well, technically you have to complete "the full course" or you're DQed. This was ruled to be a special case by the race director (kinda like a home-plate ump....has final say on all things regarding the rules) as Armstrong was basically just trying not to crash and didn't gain any advantage over the small group he was in.Originally posted by: glen
Thanks. Can you tell me more? I am curious as to the rules and guidelines for those sort of situations. I am sure simmilar things have come up and been ruled upon before now.
Honestly, even if he'd stopped, climbed back up the hill and restarted at the point where he went off the road, the guys in the group would have waited for him. It's considered extremely bad form in cycling to attack and gain time over someone who crashed or had some kind of mishap.Originally posted by: glen
They could have DQed him pretty fairly I suppose however, the outcry had they done so would have been huge. I just wonder how Lance knew he would get away with it. He had enough lead he could have stopped and gone back the correct way and lost less than a min, and he will win by more than that. So, why did he take a chance on being DQed?
Kind of a tricky situation in this case as one guy (Vinoukourov) was attacking already ahead of the small group Lance and the guy who crashed were in. They didn't want to take advantage of Beloki's crash, but they didn't want to lose time to an overall contender like Vinoukourov either. That said, I'm not sure if they would have waited for Armstrong (like I said previously). Anyway, I think the race director made the right call as Armstrong was just trying not to crash rather than any kind of attempt to cheat.Originally posted by: glen
Looks like the pink guy crashed, all his teammates stopped for him, and everyone else poured on ahead.
Each team has one or two leaders; everyone else's job is to protect and help them at all costs so any time lost by his helpers (domestiques) is irrelevant. They were just stopping to see if he could continue....if he had been able to, they would have done all the work to pace him back into the Armstrong group. Now, clearly that guy was out of the race, but his teammates suffered for stopping for him, which was cool that they did.

i guess this is one thing french that we can support.![]()
I linked the vid of the crash above...he was probably doing 40-45mph when he hit the deck. He broke his upper femur, compound elbow fracture, a couple broken fingers and lost a bunch of skin. Not fun.i never realized how dangerous the race was until i heard about that guy who had his tire blow out and pretty much broke his leg.
The Tour is 100+ miles per day for three weeks over some huge-ass mountains. I don't think there is a tougher sporting event.i would consider these types of races to be much tougher than basketball or football, it's like those ironman triathalons.

I wouldn't say that. Any honest interest in such a grand event is a good thing IMO. I don't mind answering lots of questions if it means I can help people at least understand and enjoy why the Tour is such a big deal.Originally posted by: FallenHero

So, what's up with this protest thing that cost Armstrong, among others, a bunch of time yesterday or the day before??
they're protesting the jailing of a french farmer who crapped in a mcdonalds or something, and also torched some "genetically engineered" food (all food is genetically engineered)![]()
the stupid thing is that the fvcktards in charge of the race determined that it was a normal race obstacle and that the riders would have to negotiate it.

more action and more variety of plays = more entertaining. the games are more suspensful and you can actually watch a game from beginning to end.Originally posted by: Fausto1

cycling on the other hand is just pedaling and drafting. i'm not saying it's not athletic, it's just extremely boring to watch.

Fausto,
Thanks for the link bro. You always come through. I don't have digital cable so my channels stop just shy of 71 which is what OLN is on.

Tonight would be a good night to flip the TV to Outdoor Life Network as they're showing a recap of the first week's events from 8-11pm EST.
Today's a rest day, so no coverage to be had BTW.
