my issue is having to reboot every few days.

ill get stuck in 3g, then in 1x. reboot bam 4g.

wtf

I get solid 4G in most of LA, but there are certain places where I drop to 3G. When that happens, I will get 4G back within a few seconds of moving to an area with better reception. However, if I have open data sockets I will remain locked at the slower data speed until the data radio becomes idle.

If you can't find the app that is keeping data sockets open, try installing Dazzle Configurable Switcher. This app has a single widget button for toggling all data radios On/Off. One touch turns the radios off, one touch turns them back on. So, by using this widget you can get 4G back easily, assuming you are getting a good 4G signal. No need for a reboot and you don't even have to quit any streaming apps. As soon as the connection returns, everything usually picks up where it left off.

i will give it a shot, my on off widget doesnt have the data stuff on it, but I am having issues in areas with good coverage. go to bed with 4g wake up on 1x.

at work we have a 3g repeater in building, full bars all over, it still randomly gets stuck on 1x.

I just got the extended battery so I wont be able to notice power usage issues

thats a possibility, thought 4g is sketcky is some parts of town, Id hate to have NO signal, its something to play with though and test!

You might also try the LTE On/Off app. Use this to put your phone in 4g-only mode, it may prevent the 3g/1x handoff you are experiencing.

the phone will hand-off to 1x/3g/4g whenever you have bad signal, even if you leave it on LTE only.

iirc, you can activate airplane only mode by holding down the power button which brings up menu for rebooting, airplane mode, sound off, and whatnot. it may not be present in the stock rom though. but you can download an airplane mode widget if you need to.

If true, that sucks. I've had great success locking Verizon's mifi hotspots on 4g by turning off 3g/1x modes. As long as you have good 4g reception, the result has been a rock solid 4g connection. I actually have a client running an entire office on this solution while they wait for their T1 to be installed. They say its equivalent or better performance than the hard line internet at their old location!

can't comment on the mifi, but when i move around in my building my thunderbolt switches from 3g to 4g constantly. at home, i get solid 4g connection unless i goto the center of the basement of my home.

there's airplane mode but I still want to be able to receive/send calls and texts.

You could do airplane mode + wifi on (yes, it's possible to remain in airplane mode with wifi on). Then make sure your Google Voice number is set to forward incoming texts to email (yes, replying to the emails will convert back to texts for the recipient), and install Groove IP to place & receive GV calls over wifi. No battery drain because your phone won't even be searching for a cell tower in airplane mode, only wifi would be active.

No wifi signal in the basement, but I"ll keep that in mind for other situations.

Also, I'm constantly getting stuck in 1X since this latest update. Honestly, gingerbread has taken a steaming dump all over my phone :*(

This phone seems to be getting worse and worse about signal handoffs. It keeps getting stuck in Wifi when there's no available Wifi, and refuses to shift to 1X/3G. Sometimes it'll even show 3G, but still apps will be looking through Wifi. Reboot is the only sure fix... for a little while.

Are you guys rooted and using the latest radio, or tried different ones? Probably has a lot to do with location, but the only time I ever lose 4G is when I go into the metal enclosures at work and shut the door. I never use wifi or 3G either though, LTE 24/7.

They could have picked a better device, and supported it better than they have, to launch their LTE phones.
