How fucked are you now? How fucked are you now?

Pretty good. I'll pass judgment after a few more episodes.

Oooh boy, this is going to be good. The first hour was damned good, can't wait until next week.

Holy crap, the preview for the next few weeks looks EPIC.

Not paying the $20/month BS package from cable provider to see it, so I hope it's a quick DVD release.

I didn't feel invested in the Marines since there was so little backstory, unlike Band of Brothers where they showed the training.

The acting was good, the effects were good. As first episodes go, it didn't match BoB, but it was different type of first epi.

All in all, I enjoyed it, and look forward to next weeks epi.

The reviews I have read warned of that: Pacific is NOT BoB and the characters would develop differently...which is sad because that palpable "band" that one feels while watching BoB is a big part of its magic.

i felt the same way. I think the story will be more fragmented since they arent following a company of men from beginning to end. But I still loved this first episode. FWIW, I watched BoB on DVD over two days - so I think that helped me connect with the characters more

How can you have a backstory in the first episode?

If you know anything about WWII, you should already know the back story of Gaudalcanal, John Baslone, and Chesty Puller, these are pretty iconic names.

In the upcoming episodes they will have the battle for Henderson field, which was uber important to the USA's early foothold in the Pacific. Without it, you could probably have kissed New Zealand, and possibly Australia, goodbye, oh, and add a few more years to the war.
