I hope so too.
There is no way in hell I am paying $100+/mo just for this series in HD.

More than $100 a month? Do you not have television service at all? HBO is like $10 a month if you already have cable, dish, directv...

Personally I'm glad they skipped the 2 episodes of training. Do we really need to see ANOTHER Marine in a "getting his ass chewed by a drill instructor in bootcamp" scene? talk about the biggest war movie cliche. We will get to see plenty "back home" footage once Basilone is ordered on his war bonds tour.

Is there some rule that says we have to be "invested" in characters before they see action? Personally I'd take 20% more action than was in BoB and less of the main characters griping about a weekend pass.

Besides, we'll be plenty invested in the characters by the time they hit Iwo Jima

I've already seen BoB, why do you want to make The Pacific into the same movie/different location?

"WTF, no training episode, this sucks compared to BoB where I felt like I knew all of the them just like my own brothers!"

"WTF, first episode is boot camp? LOL so unoriginal. They're just copying BoB."

Character development is there in its own subtle way.

I just don't think the "band" will be there, nor should it be. But we should face it, there are some amazing character aspects of BoB that just won't/can't be duplicated.

Friggin epic. Just like BoB, the hour passes way way too quickly. Can't wait until next weeks episode.

Wait... wuhhh? It's only 40 minutes? Any reason for this?

Well it "started" at 9, then by the time all the recap from last week was done and the opening credits rolled, it was 9:08. The ending credits rolled at 9:50. So 42 minutes of "new" episode. Same as a show on cable TV with commercials. I'm fairly disappointed with that and thought I remembered BoB eps being longer, but perhaps not.

Makes sense. I'm willing to bet BoB was the same. My guess is so they can show it on other networks within the normal 1 hr time slot like BoB did.

Sounds like good enough logic to me. I first saw BoB on DVD and was able to go ep after ep, so perhaps it just felt like they were full hours.

Nope, the BoB episodes all were between 52 minutes and 73 minutes long, most around one hour.

Well, there goes my last thread of logic for the day. Oh well. Today's episode just finished. I'll check it out as soon as Unleashed is over.

That was one pretty awesome battle scene...and picking up the Browning with his band hand (twice!)...

so through two episodes they just show the Japanese forces trying to rush the Marines and getting slaughtered. is this how the Japanese fought the war?

Very very much so. Retreat was not in their vocabulary. They were relentless. They either win the battle or die fighting.

two episodes with turkey shoots. boorrringg.

Yeah, wasn't very exciting. I couldn't believe the japs would senselessly throw their lives away. Reminded me of footage from WWI when they just threw themselves at the trenches. I liked the suspense before the battle, but when it came time for battle it seemed like another one man wrecking crew. Not sure if I'm watching a WWII show or Rambo.
