Wow, looks like our track&field is going to eat it at this Olympics. It's kinda sad to see that China basically has double our gold medals. Take out Superman Phelps and they would have triple. We might better get used to ranking not as a sports superpower, but with the rest of the Euro nations on medal counts.

We're leading in medals overall though.

lol... wth are you talking about? We have 65 medals. The next closest is China with 61. After that, it's ye ole UK with 25... It's clear there are two sports superpowers, just like during the Cold War. China's gonna be running out of Golds soon & we still have a number to win.

A lot of China's gold comes from alternative "sports" like gymnastics. IMHO, that's more art than sports. Other than that, I have a lot of respect for them in weightlifting. I never thought Asians could match Westerners in that respect.

Before you talk down on China winning in alternative sports, if not for a once-a-generation athlete like Phelps, the US would be behind in medal count now, not to mention behind in golds already and by a large amount. Look at how China did in Athens and now (major improvement). If they can keep up even half that momentum, by 2012 they will be the Olympic superpower. I don't think it's hyperbolic to say that this may be the last Olympics for a while that the US wins overall medals in (notwithstanding 2010 winter, which is quite different than summer in medal breakdown).

No way that China girl should get a medal. She fell.

That score was total bullshit.. and her first score was total bullshit.. Her first score, she got over a 16 when she landed out of bounds with 2 feet - which is supposed to be a 3/10 deduction. Her second vault, one hand in front of the other, landed on the knees.. WTF.. How the goddamn fucking fuck does she get a 15+???

Every time I've seen a disaster like that for any other team, it's 12's to low 14's..

China on the balance beem a few days ago.. She did 5 balance checks in ONE routine and still got a 15.9+ WTF.
