I would say with two days left and the smog still hitting Beijing that despite their efforts, they've been unable to hit a target of clean air for the Olympics. All said and done, pathetic. Pathetic that Beijing is such a polluted hell hole that even after the wild efforts they've made it's still a polluted toilet. It wil be interesting to see how some of the athletes respond to the air, from skipped events to masks.

BTW, I think pros should be allowed to the Olympics. The Olympics should have the very best athletes in each respective field from each country, no arbitrary amateur vs pro limits or anything.

Just heard on ESPN that four US olympians got a sort of reprimand for wearing pollution masks. Seems pretty stupid because many Chinese themselves wear those same masks. I guess it's seen as making a statement; but what's wrong with making a statement when it's already a well established truth?

Edit: Found the article:

Bad PR and rude to the host. They're supposed to hack their lungs up like men and not cry about it 🙂

Lol I feel bad for the US men's soccer team:

It was a defense that seemingly needed little bolstering, as the Americans allowed only two goals in their five qualifying matches.

"We are concerned about goals," Nowak said. "But everyone is looking at the negatives. I prefer to look at the positives. In the qualifiers, we created chances."

But only 2 goals! It be fun to watch a game to see who's worse, the US or the Chinese men's soccer team.

Might depend on who has better mask technology? Of course, no doubt China has an edge on knowing how to get a proper breath of air in their own major cities.

I frankly think that with the pollution issue being tossed around for a while, any athletes regardless of any country should have had enough time to decide whether they would want to participate in the Olympics.
If they decided that they would join then yes, they should expect their lungs to be hacked up and not cry about it.

anyone know where I can watch a stream of the ceremony live?

Depends where you are. If you have Satellite or are in China, you can stream olympics live 24/7 on CCTV channels. If in the US you need to go to www.nbcolympics.com and stream it from there. However, nbcolympics does not show all of the games like the Chinese CCTV.

The 3rd option regardless where you live is to download ppstream and stream it off the olympic channel, but the program is in Chinese so you gotta figure your way around it.

I'm in So Cal, and NBC won't be broadcasting the ceremony live, it will be delayed 12 hours. 🙁
