I cackle in the face of people who are afraid of it. It has a lot of catching up to do if it's going to be anywhere near as bad as AVERAGE ANNUAL DEATHS DUE TO THE FLU.

Laughing my fucking ass off.

ZOMG...pandemic global FEAR!!! [Media Fear bomb examples in Bowling for Columbine movie was my first thought when I started seeing this flu being reported on the various news channels]

As with any FEAR campaign - I suspect a few companies are going to make a killing from this... I really should look into their stock as I suspect it'll skyrocket...

Daily Show / Colbert Report definitely did a great job at showcasing how ridiculous this is.

You need an N95 mask to fight this one. Good thing I bought all of them I could from my local True Value.

All the pharmacies are sold out, including in the local walmart, but I found some n95's in the walmart hardware section. I can always use them for something else, like working in the attic, if the swine flu fails to deliver pandemic levels of hysteria.

I ran into the same situation here. I'm purchasing a house and will be repainting and running wiring in the attic, etc. So I need these things anyway. It was crazy to see that the CVS's and Walgreens and even the local grocery store (Dominck's) was out of these things. Even the regular dust ones that won't do anything were sold out. I asked one of the workers and he said that they sold out on Sunday, right after this thing really hit.

Just got this email from my university

It has come to our attention that two University of Canterbury staff and
two of our students travelled from the United States at the weekend on a
plane carrying secondary school students infected with Influenza A.

Students will be aware that Swine Flu (H1N1) is a new strain of
Influenza A.

The two staff members and two students have been asked to remain in
isolation for three days having commenced a precautionary course of
Tamiflu. They will be guided by doctors as to when they can return to
the University.

During this period of uncertainty about Swine Flu, it is important to
keep abreast of current and correct information, especially regarding
impending travel. Appropriate local information can be found at
http://www.fluinfo.org.nz/

Another useful link is http://urgent.internationalsos.com/default.aspx.

Students should consult a medical professional if they have any health
concerns, particularly if they have visited North America or Mexico in
the past fortnight.

Students who are intending to travel to these areas in the near future
are advised to monitor developments.

RIP GodlessAstromoner - Died 29/04/2009.

Dibs on his video card.

A 23 month old isn't anything to be concerned about. The infants and the elderly are the most likely to pass away from the regular flu, so this falls within that same age range. When it starts killing healthy 20-30 somethings, then we're screwed.

RIP and condolences to that family though.

On a related note, I saw that pork prices are falling due to the Swine Flu coverage. I'll have to start looking for deal on fresh pork.

Well, the good thing is, unlike birds (birdflu), pigs can't fly... so we're relatively safe.

except its the dirty Mexicans bringing over....

As compared to the "dirty Chinese" with their SARS and Bird Flu?

Our company is going crazy with all the Swine Flu stuff going on.

Sales of 3M respirator masks have gone off the wall.

I added some google Ad's earlier today and within 15 minutes some of them are getting over 2,000 impressions. WOW

EDIT: Just checked again, 2 conversions in less than 15 mins. AWESOME

I wouldn't worry too much about the swine flu since we're approaching our summer months where the temperature won't permit the flu to persist & spread rampantly.

However, there will be a few carriers that will bring it into the new flu season (Sept/Oct). If the Swine H1N1 isn't included in next season's flu vaccine, then we will be SCREWED.

temperature has nothing to do with how the virus spreads. It's simply the habits of people in different seasons.

Chanho dont be a gung-ho racist, this is a worldwide concern not just a regional one.

The Mexicans made it worldwide so it seems like an accurate statement to me. Maybe you're the one being racist? Racist!
