Worst registration ever? Bullshit, stupid fucking players for waiting until TWO DAYS after release to add their codes in. They got online retailers to ship 5 days early, offered a 2 day grace period, but idiots still wait till today to register. yeah, the website needs work, but it's not biowares fault people are lazy

i might be stupid and lazy, but i was astounded by the hoops i had to go through to play the game i purchased. pre-order purchase, website registration, early access registration, regular access registration (too bad they never told me it was a different code to the one i had just entered), email, email, email. this was before launch, then the real problems for customers started.

i cannot see how you can blame customers for the mess. any given website can handle millions of people a day, and that's without financial interest from lucas and ea. the game itself is enjoyable - the people behind the scenes are absolutely moronic.

Uh, no -- the site's performance is pathetic. I simply forgot to enter my subscription info until I was forced to do so today and I don't think I've ever seen such a slow and crappy process in all my years of game playing. Why the heck would they ask you to enter your retail code but NOT require you to enter all the other information at that time? It is inexplicably stupid.

And the slowness isn't just restricted to the registration process, either -- their forums are generally very slow as well and frankly, there is ZERO excuse for it. It was not a mystery that this game was going to be huge and Bioware and EA both knew months in advance that early access was going to have upwards of 1 million+ players and releasing it during the holiday season would likely add lots more.

There are "slow" sites, but this was well beyond simply being slow. Want to see how someone does it right? Check out Amazon. In this day and age, there isn't much of an excuse to see performance like we see with Bioware's web infrastructure for TOR.

Just got my ship and did my first round of huttball. I'm loving this game so far. :whiste:

EDIT: Except for the memory leak. I need more ram. :hmm:

You opened your gift early? 😛

They won't charge you until next month. I know they didn't charge me or even put a hold on the $14 because I registered a prepaid card that only has ~$3 left in it and I'm still able to play.

hmm its saying "We're sorry, but we can't perform transactions to this credit card. Please load a different one." and i know the fucking CC has money on it. I even tried my ex-wifes!

and hell yeah i opened it early. i took the cd's out and re-wrapped it...evil i know.

Since they don't require you to use Origin, they have to make up for that tenfold.

What will be even more moronic is if they never streamline the process.

Looks like its Bioware's fault. Lots of people having this problem today.

LOL

WTF it's saying my grace period is up?!? It's not been 30 days... I'm locked out with a screen saying enter in your product code & billing info yet clicking that causes their site to error out or it sends me to a queue that has no options to enter billing information.

The grace period was for early access people to get their boxed copies. Prior to 12/20 we were all playing for free basically, whether we intended to get the game or not. They gave players two days of free time after the game launched and now you have to put in a cd-key and set up a payment method. You will still get your first 30 days free.

Every MMO has worked this way for the past... probably decade or so. Most don't bother offering a grace period though afaik.

Really? There had to have been 15 different dev posts on the forums about this, very specific instructions in the e-mails you were sent, notifications on the launcher of the game, and posts on the front page of the website all telling you exactly what you needed to do in order to be ready to play the game once the grace period ended. If you didn't see any of those, it's hardly Bioware's fault that you didn't realize what you needed to do. What did you expect, a singing telegram?

Alright. My mini-review for anyone considering the game-

My Background: Jaded from tons of failed launches and empty promises..besides Star Trek MMO I've been suckered into every MMO launch since WoW with promises of fun and delight. I'm not a hardcore player (Used to be but RL has taken priority) love to do some light raiding etc.

Purchasing an Edition: There are (3) different editions of the game should you look online (or even in some stores), you have the base model which just gets you in the game...the Digital Deluxe edition, which is 79.99 (an increase of 20 dollars from base) whichs gets you probably the most bang for your buck. Finally the 149.99 Collector's Edition which is a bit overpriced..but if your a Star War's fan it comes with a nice set of goodies. My recommendation to the casual non-hardcore Star wars fan is the middle of the road..Digital Deluxe.

Registration and Website: So far the website sucks. I mean at it's best it does the job. People are complaining quite a bit about it, however the sheer volume of people logging on at once to deal with billing issues have brought it to a stand still several times. They should have foresaw this and have been dealing with the issue using a minimum of resources. Standard MMO pricing monthly.

The GAME itself: Having been a WoW vet...and playing most MMO's at launch SWTOR has launched (besides website issues) very smoothly. I have not run into any game breaking bugs...or even really anything more than a minor bug or two. Servers are a bit cramped for the early adopters..but this will even out soon enough. This game is VERY solo friendly, and the story lines and voice acting are by far superbly done. In the flashpoints (Very nicely scripted Instances) you and your party interact with various npc's and all participate in the dialogue..it's very refreshing. I'm usually one to just take a quest and not read it and grind away...but the story is so engrossing..i just want to keep listening.

Crafting: I was hoping for the old Galaxies crafting system..but what is given isn't bad at all. You have of course gathering and crafting skills. Companions (basically a Pet) do the crafting for you...low level items take 1 min to make. These can "Crit" and become an Exceptional quality item with boosted stats. The same with gathering..there are the equivlent of mining nodes (different types for different gathering skills) spread out on the worlds..but most of your gathering you send your companion out on missions (Takes X mins) leaving you to do the questing and killing while your companion grinds out your gathering skills...very well done.

Conclusion : Overall this game is worth it to both MMO Vets and Newbies. I can't speak about high lvl PvP and Raid content but its very well done overall. You will at least get a few playthroughs out of the game. I honestly wouldn't hestitate to pick this up.

Thanks, I finally figured that out, the problem is it won't let me put in my CC info as it says I need to complete the step of putting in my activation code. When I do that it says it's already in use and it won't let me continue to entering in the CC info. I looked at every link on the site to see where I could enter that info, but it seems tied to the activation code as its no where to be found.

To top it off as it's been noted their website is really flaky. It times out a lot, puts you in queues and sometimes won't take my log-in info. It'll even error out after you sit through the queue. EA is really dropping the ball on an awesome product.

grace period? i never needed any grace period to play. once i got the early access working, i've been playing non-stop.

you must be talking about something else, because the instructions on completing bioware's elaborate registration puzzle were not laid out in dev post or singing telegrams.

1. enter the code we emailed you
2. bunch of other stuff
3. enter the code we emailed you
4. that code is already in use, enter a different code
5. what other code?
6. the code we're barely mentioning and will send to you in an email 24 hours from now.

if you think i'm an imbecile for relying on google to get me through this, you can shove it.

I think part of the annoyance some of us have with this process is that when we entered our product keys, we weren't prompted to set up a subscription like every MMO for the past decade or so has done.

I think this dev post pretty accurately spells it out:
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=637778#edit637778

Or maybe the FAQs:
http://www.swtor.com/info/faq/game#311614

Or maybe this dev post:
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=510172#edit510172

Or maybe this blog post:
http://www.swtor.com/blog/get-ready-play-activate-your-account

Or you could look at the official SWTOR twitter account where apparently lots of people have the same issue understanding simple instructions, because every other post is about how to properly register:
https://twitter.com/#!/SWTOR

Or if you go to your account page (https://account.swtor.com/user/account) it very explicitly shows every step you must take, in the proper order, along with where you are in the process.

The e-mail from Origin (if you ordered from them) with your product code giving you explicit instructions:
Your purchase has now been processed. To redeem your Product Registration Code:

1) Go to www.swtor.com/redeem/game

2) Click "Redeem Your Product Registration Code" (You will be prompted to log in or create a STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™ account if needed.)

3) Enter and confirm your Product Registration Code (the 20-digit code seen above) when prompted.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your registration.

5) Install the game and begin playing*.

*Game does not launch until December 20, 2011.

Or the e-mail from SWTOR on the 19th of December:
We hope you've been enjoying your time as one of the first to start playing Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. Servers will go live soon. If you have your Product Registration Code, redeem it now to ensure uninterrupted access to your game. If you do not have your game yet, be sure to enter your Product Registration Code as soon as you receive it. The official game launches on December 20, 2011 at 12:01 AM EST.

Judging by the over one million people playing the game, it obviously wasn't too hard for most people to figure out.

Is it really worth the 20 for the digital deluxe upgrade?

You get a free speeder which is not available otherwise (although the only difference between it and another lvl 25 speeder is the looks, and a lot of people have the speeder since a lot of people did the delux version so it's not very unique). An equivalent speeder is only 8k, so not a huge savings there.

You get access to a VIP area which, even on a full RP server, was empty every time I've gone there. All it has is a cantina vendor or two as well as a VIP vendor which sells a 1.5 million credit speeder.

And then you get a few fluff items (a flare gun and a few other things I don't even remember).

I think the $20 I spent on it was wasted, but other people like the fluff. YMMV

I agree, it was a waste. You're not really even saving any noticeable amount of in-game money by getting a free ride. They're 8K in-game, which is nothing at level 25.

im tempted to take it back to walmart. you can't play the month free without giving credit card and they are having issues accepting credit cards.
