I will never forgive you for your lack of forgiveness of companies that meet market demands.

What upset me about your initial post was the insinuation that an MMO is so much better than a single player game that you would be shocked that someone would be interested in a single player game when TOR is coming out.

I have no problem with MMOs if that is what one likes. But by the same token, some people do not want to devote endless hours to grinding, meeting up with other players, and playing a game that basically goes on forever without any final resolution. And I think you must admit that KOTOR was a great single player game that was left hanging without a third game to finish the storyline. And there was a great demand in the market for a third KOTOR single player game to finish up the franchise. In my opinion, Bioware and Lucas arts never finsihed it because they did not want to take attention away from TOR, which they hope to make a boatload of money on. So I dont think Bioware/Lucas Arts/EA really cares about the market other than using it to make as much money as possible.

Uhh if the market for SWTOR > the market for KOTOR 3 wouldn't that mean they do care about the market? Makes zero sense to cater to the small market and not the larger market. And I'd bet SWTOR will sell more than a KOTOR 3 would.

I guess it makes sense if you only are concerned about making money. So if you are following your reasoning to the logical conclusion, we shouldnt care about the consolization of PC games and lack of PC exclusives, because consoles is where the money is.

I am sure that TOR will have a large following initially, but it remains to be seen how it will do long term. But I still hate to see bioware go away from making quality single player games. The last one was probably Dragon Age: Origins. Lets hope ME3 is not dumbed down or turned into just another online shooter.

I'm sure they will still make great single player games, but I'm an MMO player at heart so I really hope this turns out good.

Just curious, has it been confirmed in any way that TOR completely supplants the possibility of another KOTOR?

Though I definitely need a good MMO, it's been over a couple of years since quitting EQ.

Well, yes, I think thats the basic concept around most companies. Now, how does a business make money? By providing a service that people want, and will pay for. By providing said service for cheaper than the competition. And/or by providing a good value for said service...i.e giving more for the money spent. I'd argue that customer service would be in that equation somewhere, but honestly, it doesn't exist anymore. In fact, I'd say anyone under the age of, say, 25, might never have had a good customer service experience. At least, not to the standards it used to be measured in. But, I suppose thats a story for another day.

So if you are following your reasoning to the logical conclusion, we shouldnt care about the consolization of PC games and lack of PC exclusives, because consoles is where the money is.

Is that really the logical conclusion to the arguement? Perhaps, but I'm not convinced. The online versus offline rpgs would be targetting different markets. Sure, there is quite a bit of overlap, if you were to map it out, I'm sure. And, consoles vs the pc market is also different markets, with overlap. But, you were specifically stating consolizing pc games, which, in my mind at least, isn't the same thing? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something here.

Well, I actually agree that I would like to see a knights 3 offline game, to finish the storyline off that way. I don't see an issue with making a mmo either. It would be nice if we could get both. I don't see it happening though.

I do wonder if Bioware might have been slipping the last few years, without them needing any excuses like their online game they are developing. Even if they had the same exact staff that made some of their gems from the past, if they have a publisher thats breathing down their neck to push out games in a hurry, make sequals in a quarter of the time neccessary to develop them, etc etc, then you get such wonderful experiences as Dragon Age 2.

I believe either Lucas Arts or Bioware said there would not be a kotor 3. And Bioware said early on that TOR would have as much content as 7 or 10 or something like that KOTOR single player games. What they didnt address was that some people would prefer a single player experience, and that TOR could not finish up the storyline of KOTOR because it is set in a different time period.

However, I still hope that after the initial hype of TOR wears off, perhaps someone will make a KOTOR 3 if Lucas arts will give them the license. I think now however, that a lot of the interest in a third single player game has died down.

I have no desire to see TOR fail, I dont mean to give that impression. I just am not interested in playing an MMO. If that is what other people want to do, I am OK with that.

Like I said, I think Mass Effect 3 will be a telling game for the Bioware single player games. If it turns out to have an epic conclusion and great single palyer gameplay, I will be very happy about that. If it turns out like DA2, we will know Bioware has truly turned to the "dark side" and only wants to pump out poorly made games as fast as possible, (Edit: or that EA is forcing them to do so), it is the same result either way.

Then why bother posting in this thread at all? Your intentions seem to be either to troll, bait, and bash.

Nice that you can discern my intentions. Why dont you take that act to Vegas.
And just because I dont want to play TOR, does not mean that I am not interested in the game and/or what other games might have been sacrificed to allow it to be made. So do I have to be an MMO player to express my opinion in this forum?

I don't see why they couldn't considering TOR takes place many years after the end of KOTOR 2. 🙂

Bioware seems to have a lot on their plate right now so who knows...

Ahhhh, did pboor wittle baby gets his fweeling hurt?

I call it like I see it. Your opinions thus far have been nothing but trollish flame bait. Don't like the idea of a MMO KOTOR? Oh well, it's not stopping Bioware. So why not contribute something meaningful or gtfo.

WTF are you doing in this thread then? All you've been doing is whining like a dramaqueen about TOR and Bioware in this thread.

Does this announcement mean I can play Star Wars: The Old Republic this weekend?

No it does not, unless you have a previous testing invite - either to this weekend or to general Game Testing. The Beta Testing Weekend we are referring to will happen in the next few weeks.

When will the Beta Testing Weekend start?

It will happen in the next few weeks. We'll have an announcement on the exact timing closer to the weekend's start.

Will this be the final Beta Testing Weekend?

Currently, we expect it to be.

Will I be able to download the game client in advance of the weekend?

Yes, we will be sending out invites to download the game client in advance of the weekend.

I have previously tested Star Wars: The Old Republic. Will I get invited to the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend?

Yes, you will. Every person that is signed up and opted in for Game Testing before November 11th will be invited to this Beta Testing Weekend.

What if I do not live in a launch country for Star Wars: The Old Republic?

As long as you are signed up and opted in for testing, you will be invited to test.

What if I have not signed up, or opted in for testing by November 11th?

We are partnering with a number of games media sites worldwide to give away Beta Test Weekend Codes. They are listed in this article. If you receive a code from any of these sites, you will need to sign up on StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com to redeem that code.

I got my second beta invite,
Your account has been selected to participate in an upcoming Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Beta Weekend Test. If you have previously tested or are currently participating in an ongoing test, you will be invited again. Additional details for this upcoming test will be announced soon.

I'm going to pass up the beta test this time, its too near final release date and besides it only a weekend beta test.

I just got a second invite, but this one looks different than the weekend invite; does not have a date restriction like the last one, so maybe it lasts for longer?
