There are quite a few jedi classes to choose from if you include dark side and as always you can bet a lot of the younger players will want to be Jedi of some sort.
I'll probably roll Commando and Jedi and use them for my two main classes.

The game plays like KOTOR with added MMORPG elements so if that's what you are expecting then you won't be disappointed, don't expect a full blown MMORPG however(this may change on final release if they add more stuff).

I do have some concerns about the game which I'll will tell you about next week.
It's strength are probably storyline(which has been stated by Bioware) however I did not think storyline was great so far, its just dragged out over areas you go too and easy to play.

I had a look at their testing forums thread yesterday and still a quite a few testers saying its boring ,not to meantion a few wanting some SWG Pre-CU stuff in there.
I did say it needed more fun stuff ie make it more exciting for the players.

Mem how is the challenge? is it just a cake walk unless you try to make it more difficult by engaging multiple mobs and/or quests beyond your level?

to add my 2 cents regarding jedi, it doesn't bother me that there will be many of them running around...as someone said there were many jedi in the lore, and many were killed by regular weaponry, grenades, blasters whatever. The argument that a player jedi in swtor is average for their archetype and the other classes are the best of the best in theirs explains well enough for me why the jedi won't dominate pvp.

Mobs same level are easy enough where you can take them on in groups,I can fight mobs 2 levels higher, only dangerous if there is an elite boss your level which can be tough,I normally try to kill his minions first then go for him last, group quests do need groups unless you are way higher then the class mobs.Basically its a case of no issues with normal mobs but be careful with elite mobs etc..some NPCs can heal themselves too so you got to kill them fast.

That's why this game really can't ever be correct. If 4 jedi are attacking the same target then first of all, they should be acrobatically flipping all over the place, not standing still and autoattacking. Secondly, if 4 jedi were to swarm a target it would die in about half a second.

Seeing a group of jedi smack a mob to death with their glowing clubs is going to really, really bother me...

I understand your point.

But who said there were no flips? =) And there is no auto attack.

bleh, sounds like all other mmos

Implementing this is in a balanced way so as not to offend your sensibilities... is actually very easy. You simply dial down the accuracy rate until the probabilistic damage is on par with that of another class, and you are free to make the damage as high as you want.

The problem with this when it comes to game design is that most people don't think random number generators are very fun, especially when it comes to large deviations in PvE. 1-12 damage and 6.5 damage may be the same probabilistically, but gamers tend to think that the second one is more fun because they are less "at the mercy" of the RnG. Of course they are limiting the upside as well as the downside, but they are happy to make that trade because they are risk averse.

I do think it would be fun to have a game with realistic lightsaber combat, I just think most people wouldn't like it.

Was hoping TOR would bring something new and technologically better since it's coming out years after WoW. Not just a rinse and repeat of WoW but with a Star Wars theme.

Honestly, for 60 million I was expecting some new as well. I understand WoW is the gold standard, but that all because they took a chance at creating something different in the market and their bet paid off big. Unfortunately their success caused the rest of the industry to go stale.

I think SWTOR will be a great game, but I doubt it will be revolutionary in ANY way. I really wish I was in beta, I'd love to help test this one.

Youre acting as if WoW never had patches and expansions. The last expansion was less then a year ago.

But yes, you could still call SWTOR WoW in Star Wars clothing, at least from what Ive seen so far, Im only lvl14 though.

Which is why any MMO with jedi is bound to fail. Jedi are great for single player games where the protaganist is an all powerful protector of the universe.

It reminds me of that lines from the movie The Incredibles. When everybody is special, nobody is.

I agree with this. They should have made this SWG2 (improved) and left jedi out all-together. They don't play well with multiplayer games.

That's how the game presents each class in the starter area - you are the best of the best, the top of your class. You are constantly being reminded how great you are and how everyone is glad you're on their side [including the poor helpless saps who look for you to help them resolve their problems good ole KOTOR style 😀 ].

CGI videos relased by Bioware are accurate representing how good each class is.

SWTOR definitely will be worth of at least the [assumed] free month included with the game.

There was another leaked ~35 minute video today. Not sure if it was the same one from a few weeks or months ago. It showed some interesting details even though it was the starting world for the Jedi. I wonder why most leaked videos seem to be low level?

SURE ENOUGH!

Already releasing overpriced crap.

I like razer products but whenever they have a Limited Edition something it always costs one and a half times more and its still the same product.

Well, Im losing interest. I was happy with the starter zone. The starter zone had a sort of a restricted feel, the map wasnt too huge, and I thought this was just a way to give you a slow introduction to the game, learn your class. Then I passed level 10 and it was time to leave the starter zone for the Empire capital and I thought "Now the real game starts!". So what happens? The Empire capital is just as small and linear as the starter zone. What I thought was an intentionally small and linear feel just to help new players actually seems to be the whole game. The main aspect of the game seems to be questing and its getting old. So I thought well what else can I do besides questing? Not much. Theres the battlegrounds, which are small, simple, not dynamic. Crafting I havent tried yet but it seems just like WoW.

I dont know how much their licensed stuff is but Id say everything else seems to be reasonably priced. Their stuff is a step up from microsoft and logitech products and its priced about the same.

The keyboard was announced awhile ago. And if it mechanical, I will be buying it. I like the LCD touch screen on the side. It is a nice idea.

Say what you want about SOE, they really screwed the pooch with SWG, but at least they tried something different. The fact that they failed means it will be a long time until we see something other than a WoW re-skin pack sold as a new MMO.

What LucasArts should have done is talked to the people running EVE. Use that as a basis for a new game. From what I understand, EVE is adding an FPS element via a separate game. Not sure how it will work, but it could be interesting.

I didn't play SWG so I can't speak as to it failing but from what people have said about SWG PvP it had some cool things. Has any word come out about TOR PvP's quality? One thing I hate is when pvp is limited to consensual "warfronts", you need gank pvp in the world at large.

Also, EVE is a good concept but I definitely prefer that if you are going to be controlling ships, that you fly them directly, not indirectly by commands.

The industry is semi stale but only in that wow takes everyone elses ideas and improves them.

The one new style game I am looking forward to is strange world.I am hoping it turns out decent.I was looking forward to this game fire to bioware. However it is looking semi disappointing.

My thoughts exactly, on both subjects.

In SWTOR all Ive seen so far is battleground type PVP. They are supposed to be adding some in world PVP soon so maybe Ill see what thats like.

As for EVE, Id still be playing that game if it had simulator like controls and not RTS controls. A game about space ships where you dont get to really fly spaceships, thats EVE.

Hope so. I'm so locked into buying and trying TOR that I barely even follow it(what point is there to reading depressing info lol when I know I'm getting it), you really need the ability to make enemies in the shard/server you regularly play on, emotionless pvp in battlegrounds or whatever doesn't cut it.

Having played both I prefer SWG-Pre CU by far, even PvP was more fun,end of the day ToR will do well for the first few months since everybody will be curious to try a new MMORPG plus it has the Star Wars name.

I do hope they make some constructive changes from all the feedback from testers.

Another PVP centric question. Did WoW and Galaxies have...uh...I guess faction-centric cities? Meaning I guess...whatever is evil, can't just waltz into the good side's cities? Everquest for example, evil classes/races could enter any city. Yes, the Paladin NPCs in a city might KOS an evil but the whole city won't, and so it's not a "hard" lock against any faction from using the city. And do we have any idea whether TOR will be like that? Or whether TOR will have totally blocked PvP inside cities? Like Plane of Knowledge in EQ?
