...If they could charge $100 for every game and just re-use the same content they would do it in a heartbeat...

🙂, EA is notorious for doing almost just that (the difference being that they don't charge $100, they charge $40->60.)

I mean, look at the sims, almost all EA games, etc. Almost no real new content, just a few bonus features and 500000 different expansion packs that cost about as much as the full game.

You were doing fine until you stuck up for GFWL.

Anyway, this game still looks like it has potential even if its just LucasArts answer to WoW.
It will probably be the first paid MMO I get into, and I despise MMO's. So if I'm willing to give it a chance theres no reason the rest of you bastards cant.
I'm pretty sure none of you bitches hate like I hate.

A huge corporation trying to make as much money as they can. Who'da thunk it?😱

have you read any of pontifex's posts?

Activision/blizzard, Valve, Microsoft are all pretty good examples of corporations that aren't doing that.

In fact, EA is pretty much the only one out there that is doing this, nobody else does.

Epic.

tried to log on with my rebuilt comp and do the beta scan, but the damn thing keeps saying it failed.

Maybe not Valve, but Activision and Microsoft? Heck yeah they're trying to make as much money as possible.

Everyone is trying to make as much money as possible. Nobody else besides EA is taking the route of "Re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re release product with no significant changes" that EA is taking (the what you originally quoted me as saying).

Yes, taken out of context what I said makes no sense, but it makes perfect sense in context.

well, it's just the same model you see in every industry when you push for the highest profit margin imaginable, assuming that getting to the most people possible = maximum profit.

pop music has been dumbed down to the point where singers don't matter anymore-it's all auto-tuned crap that is indistinguishable from one song to the next, one artist to the next.

same with movies--you're starting to see more Michael Bayisms in the big summer releases: shitty and obnoxious camera panning, horrible editing, wooden and lifeless characters, insane pointless action that makes no sense.

fast food has been doing this, the beer industry--the creation of light beer--is an attempt to regress a product to the simplest, least complex, most generally inoffensive product possible.

like everything else. This is the course of EA. it's not surprising, b/c you have the same MBAs in all industries learning the same nonsensical drivel as every other MBA consulting these companies towards the same type of preposterous, sterile and un-inventive product stream.

It was a bitch the first time I tried to do it as well. The damn thing would start then just sit there scanning. I think I had to reinstall java while disabling pop up blocker as well for it to work.

Penny Arcade has a quick article on Gabe's impression of the TOR beta.

Interesting. It sounds like they are touching base with the KOTOR style of playing (interactive quests etc).

Either way, this does make me a little more excited about the game. Hopefully he is right and it truly is more than a "Me Too" game.

I just hope that there is some sort of plot to the game and not a quagmire of "quests" that you are doing. I mean, on of the best parts of KOTOR was finding out that
you are Revan
. Having a central plot like that with all its twists and turns is what made the game great.

Single Player campaign sounds like it's going to be top notch story telling/action.

I just wonder what their plans are for the multplayer and end game part. 🙁

I wish I could say but I'm under NDA,I did managed to play about 5 hours worth yesterday however.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa??!??!?!!!?!??

Starcraft 2 planned from inception as three full price games.
In-game WoW mounts which cost $25.
Re-use of Naxxramas, Onyxia, Ragnaros.

TF2 hats.

Windows costing >$100.
Windows 7, the Vista skin.
XBox live.
RROD.

No re-sale or refund policies, in general.

In general, not that bad. WoW, is the biggest sore spot for blizzard. The 3 different versions of starcraft will at least be different enough to care. There is a big difference between 3 different version of starcraft where you have full campaigns to play and The Sims: Petz edition where the only thing added is a cute pet. Or madden 4000 where the only thing that was changed is the addition of new players with different stats.

Valve doesn't sell hats or a different version of TF2 to get hats... Pretty weak.

Again. This is different from making a product that has almost no value added to it. Windows 7 is probably the only place MS has does this, and that is primarily because vista had WAY too much FUD against it. Win7 managed to avoid the FUD.

XBox live is a subscription.. um, yeah, you find those everywhere. MS is providing you access to their game network.

RROD has nothing to do with the topic at hand. It was a MS Fubar, but not an example of MS re-re-re-re-re-releasing a product.

And with the No re-sale or refund policies, that is again not related to what I was talking about at all. Now you just listing "Things companies do that annoy me!" I was talking about EAs crappy development cycles that add almost nothing to each release of their games.

I wasn't saying "corporations aren't out to get money" (please read it in context). I was saying "Most gaming corporations produce products with new and useful features."

Windows costing more than $100 is a problem? (for the record, I paid $30 for Win7 pro 64bit ~1 month after release, legally, with a long-running, high-exposure offer run by Microsoft. Sweet deal). Are you cheap, or place little value in products and work? are you an internet thief?

Win7 = Vista skin?

are you high in general, or just drinking the koolaid today?

and, from what I know, the content in each Starcraft game is about as much as any other normal game. So...it's then only acceptable for you to pay 1/3 the price of content that everyone else is offering?
