I thought it was definite that it's going to be subscription based right from the very beginning? At least that's what I have always assumed it will be.

i've looked and never found anything. :\

I think people assume these things, because that is the standard model. But great success has been had with free to play. That's why I'm curious.

yes its going to be a paid 15 dollar a month type service.
that was put out ages ago.

EA/Lucas need to make a bank on this to support it.
They are looking for a cash cow like WoW is for Activision/Blizz

You really cannot compare the play styles of GW.. to any of the modern MMOs.
You flat could not play WoW or rift with being limited to the 8 skills would be extremely boring.
All the kills in the new games are all situational..
making you think what to use to be most effective..
like I said even my WoW Rogue one of the most simplistic chars to play. has no less than 20 abilties at max level.
all need to be used properly to be effective..
same with Rift..
being that you are a 3 class hybrid
you will have 2x as many skills as WoW in Rift at the same level.. and still have to be used properly to be effective.

That was set in stone? I know they said in order to make a profit they need X amount of subscribers but never really gotten into the details. Also awhile back there was the "swtor pricing may have a twist" quote and a thread about it.

I would be VERY surprised if there wasn't a monthly subscription.

Watched some of the live stream last night and I think it looks good.

All the George Lucas bashing gets old too...

He created an entire new Universe that will be remembered long past any of us...

He created the number one Villain of all time...

He and his companies took special affects to a new level...

I'm not a FANBOY, Lucas DID turn Vader into a VICTIM instead of a badass, but if I could be half as successful in my endeavors as Lucas has been, I'd feel pretty damn good...

We as entertainment consumers don't give two shits about how successful something is, what matters is if it's good or not. Popularity != Quality.

That was a pretty nice intro trailer. I know I'll at least be trying the game when it releases, but I doubt I'll sign up for a monthly sub.

He gets bashed because he leaves himself open to be bashed. *shrugs* Is this really any different than say, EA who makes dough but continually ruin most games they touch? Anyway, Harrison Ford was quoted saying Lucas has an incredible creative mind and vision but he absolutely sucks in telling a story. That's his true weakness. Why do you suppose some of the more critically acclaimed movies he's been a producer for were written by someone else? Either way, there's nothing wrong with people giving their opinions on the guy. As long as he keeps writing crap he'll get knocked for it.

So the Star Wars universe is not entertaining to you Red Storm?

Everyone has all the answers...

Don't sing it, bring it...

If you can do better, what is holding you back?

Huh? What? Did you mutter?

Yeah, that's what I thought...

If you're only in this thread because think this might not be a pay-to-play mmo release, you can pretty much hit your back button now.

Uh, what? 😵

All I said was that Popularity != Quality, I didn't say anything about Star Wars. Are you arguing that everything that's popular is quality work? 😕

Oh, I think he's a fantastic storyteller. He knows his stuff, he's just not that great a director. Mostly because he tends to micromanage rather than relying on the expertise of his crew. Surrounds himself with too many "yes men". Lucas is and always will be a producer. That's his forte.

Agreed, how could someone NOT have told him in Episode to how BAD it looked when Anakin jumped on the back of those big pig things in the field?

LOL!

Even the original series, the best ones were the ones that he didn't direct.

George Lucas is an amazing creative mind, not a director. He needs to allow others to use him as input only and stay away from directing anything.

Um no its not..
you pick those 8 skills and use them till you are bored to tears..

where in WoW in any second I could need any of my 20+ skills.. you dont have time to go dig through a spell book take time and swap your available skill..
you need to be able to hit that button in a second..

Thats the difference..

hell my Deathknight has at least 30 abilities at 85 that are needed at all times..
dont even get me started on counting my hunters skills..

Depends on your class. Mages use two buttons, 3 if they are pro.

Not hardly...

I just tire of people complaining so much when they can't do anything better...

Lol. I may have pointed it out in this thread (maybe another) but nobody has the resources to put out a MMO on their own at this level. That doesn't mean we can't see bad design decisions from a mile away. The ability to do something is not related the ability to critique something. If that were the case, no company could function as most managers don't possess all the skills that their employees have (and they certainly couldn't do better themselves).
