KOTOR:

Turn based games...MEH.

Hey wait, stand still while I pick my next move...YAWN!

It's "turn based" in the sense that there are turns going on in the background to determine combat, but it essentially is real time. Now if it actually played out like Risk or something, you'd have a point. :p

For those interested, they will also be implementing guild Capital Ships, which is pretty intriguing.

I absolutely cannot wait for this game.

Very disappointed that they made an MMO instead of KOTOR 3. I have never played an MMO, and will not start now. I dont care how much content they say the game has. A good story that you can play alone, at your own pace, and have a definite ending is more important to me than how much content the game has.

However, the way DA2 turned out, maybe it is just as well that they did not make KOTOR 3, at least I can remember the first KOTOR as one of my favorite games ever, instead of a hollow shell of itself as KOTOR 3 might have been.

Bioware, how could you?? O yeah I forgot, you sold out to EA and turned KOTOR into what you hope will be a cash cow like WOW.

Ditto. KOTOR is in my list of top 3 games but I won't even try this one. I've played an MMO for a few months before (EVE Online) and damn what a waste of time that turned out to be.

Just as an FYI, this game is basically NOTHING like EVE Online. Eve is in its own little classification as far as MMOs go. Eve is 100% player driven whereas TOR will be very single player/story focused. I think Eve would be the absolute last game I would recommend somebody try as their first MMO.

Not saying you should buy the game, but if/when the demo/trial comes out, highly recommend you try it. Especially since you enjoy KOTOR so much. I'm hoping it is at least similar...

Says the guy whos first post was "I hope it bombs". :whiste:

I do hope it bombs. I'm not trolling. I hate EA and Bioware as of late, and I do not wish for any of their endeavors to succeed. I hate that they are sullying KotOR with MMO crap.

All I wanted was a KotOR 3 :'(

While I don't hope that it bombs, I won't be purchasing it. I'm still pretty disappointed that they went to an MMO style. You went from being the coolest jedi around (raven) to being some face in a crowd, all in one fell swoop.

This is a pure money grab. They took an awesome RPG and destroyed it. Though, with how bad KOTOR2 turned out, I guess this can't be any worse.

I'll be a Sith Inquisitor if this game ever releases....lol

Seriously, I signed up for their forums last year and still no word of a release date. I hope they don't release it after Arkham City :p
They never had a release date just a target release window which was Spring 2011. Now with more recent events, interviews and reports it's more like release in 2011.

Hopefully, not too late in 2011. There will be tons of competition in late 2011, which will push it back to 2012....which is when I expect this game to release honestly.

I hope it does well. The more MMOs that are out there that arnt Lord of the Rings spin offs the better.

For every MMO that isnt fantasy based there are 10 that are. We dont need 100 WoWs.

Wrong.

And it isn't like Old Republic is innovative anyway. Sci-fi visuals doesn't change core gameplay mechanics.

Who cares if MMOs are fantasy based? What matters is the gameplay.

As a general rule, the less MMOs the better, but everyone sees WoW and thinks $$$.

Most major MMOs make their parent companies very rich.

how is that a general rule? That's personal preference, nothing more.

I don't like MMOs that much either, but there is no substance in this argument. In fact it all runs counter to data gleaned through revenue.

Its just an opinion, but so is everything else in this thread. Everything is just personal preference when it comes to video games taste >.> I didn't think the obvious needed to be stated.

My general rule was from the consumer standpoint, and just my own general rule. MMOs are one of the reasons (in my opinion, of course) that the PC gaming market is kind of lame nowadays. MMOs reward lack of innovation in pretty much every field of game development, and almost every MMO I've played (so far) has been a generally poor game (again, in my opinion)

Exactly.

I meant better for the consumer, but the PC devs just see the possible $$$, so now wonder they are attracted to MMOs.

I think a lot of the PC gaming world has gone that way, even without console influence, and regardless of MMO popularity.

Take a game like Titan's Quest--massively popular it seems among PC players--very much the type of game you think of when you think "PC game"

It's fun, yes--but extremely derivative. It's a hack and slash with loot drops and a skill system that is pretty much like all others, just with a different skin. After a while, I just can't handle these things anymore b/c the obvious becomes too glaring for me :\

same with the majority of RTS--which I like very much. All of them are pretty much the same, just different skins, a few system tweaks here and there.

anyway, I think I'm going to go dust off my ass-old KotOR dics and see if it will install and play on my 4 core, 64bit win7 system? think I'll have any luck? :D

...maybe I can just toss the serial key into Steam and see if it activates? :hmm:

anyway, ToR does look very derivative, it is an MMO...but it looks shiny, and IT HAS LIGHTSABERS! :awe:

Watched the video because a group from my old DAoC guild are going to play it. They've been talking about it for two years, but based on the video I don't get why. The more I see of the game play the less attracted to it I am. Five minutes of boring "multi-player dialog" followed by a cut-scene transition into a linear instance. Wow, look at that set-piece ship crash in the background! Isn't this exciting?

If I blink my eyes really fast I can't tell what game this is. There's a guy with a glowy sword, a cloth-wearing squishy who pulls aggro when she shouldn't, and a stealther who hides behind a rock when the fight begins. Which way is Ogrimmar?

And maybe I'm just being a nabob of negativity at this point, but multi-player conversations with quest-giving NPCs? That's the next big thing? Meh, think I'll go play a UO freeshard or reroll in Camelot again.
