Wow, that gameplay looks like crap. It is like they tried to combine Kotor's turn based system with an MMO and ended up with something that is akin to crappy stick figure animation.

Yup looks exactly like KOTOR. Not impressed at all.

Looked just like other MMOs. Even the moves look like WoWs. They just have a charge, throw light saber, dual hit finisher. Even a kick I bet.

LOL you haters are so funny! You might as well say:

"BF3 looks exactly like MW2. It has guns and bullets and you shoot people and kill them. Even the crouch and prone looks the same." It's 2 totally different settings and they don't look similar at all. Anyways the big "innovation" you're all looking for is in the story. Or I should say all I'm looking for, cause 90% of you skip dialogue cause you're too used to playing WoW.

The animations look just like KOTOR, the "special Jedi movies" look just like KOTOR.

It's interesting how strong the opinions are around this title. Either it's going to be a fun game to play for a while or it isn't. It's probably not going to cure cancer and it's also probably not going to slash your tires. I know that a lot of people get worked up over MMOs because they sink so much time into them, but if you go into any game expecting to play it non-stop for the next 5 years you have pretty unrealistic expectations. MMOs are dirt cheap entertainment and I can't really relate to somebody who objects to paying $90 over three months for an MMO yet spends twice that much on a variety of games over the same interval without a second thought.

I've been having fun playing Rift over the last month and a half, but I'll probably be ready for this game when it comes out (in the fall?). I imagine it will be fun for at least one playthrough, then if it gets boring because there isn't enough endgame or it's too repetitive I will move on.

Having just replayed KotoR 1 and 2 recently, this is shaping up to look nicely. The animations for TOR, at least to my taste, are far more polished, choreographed and have a more definite weight behind them. KotoR while fun is probably moreso drawing much from nostalgia and is truthfully a very dated looking game - TOR is my KotoR update as far as I'm concerned. If I can pay $15 a month to play KotoR 3 through 10 or whatever this is considered with each class story. I have zero expectation of the MMO story to be comparable to KotoR for several reasons, but balances it out with updated mechanics, gameplay and the ability to play in a constant 'verse with my friends.

The Sage's ability needs more.. eh, polish though. The rain of pebbles was silly and the giant... septic tank thing was odd as well. The spec'd healer class looked a bit underwhelming as well, but that just may be my personal taste. Might be more frantic behind the keyboard keeping the party alive, no idea. Jedi Knight looked fun and very surprised how fun the Trooper play looked.

Hope they keep polishing so this thing is good when it peeks out.

I like the mix up of roles, allows a lot of group variation - especially since I know most people will be playing a class not because of their class abilities/skills - but moreso because they always wanted to swing around a Light Saber, wanted to Force Choke someone, or wanted to Han Solo and shoot first...

I heard there's discussion of allowing the player to dual-spec, meaning possibly within 1 Advanced Class, allow a switch-up skill set. This would allow a player to easily jump from solo'ng (DPSing for example) into being able to be more of a use in a group set (A tank or a healer). I'm not sure on the specifics on how something like this would be handled (like equipment for the spec carried over as well or a cool down or if the ability is activated outside of combat), but I hope they do consider this as I hear this is similarly handled in WoW? I could be wrong, I have hardly any MMO experience.

yeah, I hope you are allowed to change classes and such after a certain point in the game, and redistribute skill points and learn all skills as you please--eventually.

With such depth and options available, I hate to get trapped early on by a progression that I will hate near the end game--which always happens on a first play-through, heh.

still don't know if I will pick this up, though. Will not spring for it if it is a subscription, and even then I'm not sure.

Would be nice if you could change professions like in Final Fantasy 11 at will while leveling the same character.

Could you re-distribute skill points in SWG? I don't think so; I remember training to be a bounty hunter (which sucked in SWG) and then having to re-grind to become a Melee tank...

I remember when you could try all different classes( end of Pre-CU),I think I tried about 6 different classes from TK Master to Master Pikeman etc....

Basically you could do a class change and play your new class, you could keep it or try something else, the class change was for a few weeks only (on my Euro server) but it did allow you to make the class change permanent, was funny you had loads of TK masters running around lol...the way it worked was if you was a Master you could change to a new class as Master,if you was a Novice then you would be same Novice level in your new class, was a cheap way to get a new badge for your character at Master level ie change class .

A couple of my co-workers are die-hard Star Wars fans that will definitely be playing this. They keep telling me how awesome it's going to be. I hope for their sake (and everyone else with high hopes) it is, but I have a very hard time swallowing that pill. No EA product is a day-1 purchase in my book; I'll consider it, but it's gotta prove something first.

They tell me it should be VERY solo friendly, so that could be a plus. However, that's as much a business decision as anything. Get casual players paying monthly = big $$. I'm positive it'll be subscription based, which would probably count me out as well. I'm not against a subscription, per se, but rather the grindiness that goes hand-in-hand. With how busy life is, I'm just no longer compatible with playing that many hours a week to get enjoyment from the game. My song had a different tune until as recently as a month ago, but I've had a major change of heart and found a better balance for me personally.

From those videos it literally looks like a version of KOTOR mixed with the Mass Effect wheel, but MMO. So...does TOR have any city zones where you can just hang out like most MMORPGs do or is all mission areas?

doesnt look bad at all to me.. sure I wish they had used a new engine with more "bling" but its smooth and fuid and the moves looks fine for an MMO.
Look at WoW Rift Conan or anything else.. same repetitive animations.. this looks fine.

I'm wondering how old this video is? The UI does look like the one shown in the latest "Working on the User Interface" BioWare put out just recently, so maybe recent? I just know they're always going through constant iterations - like a month ago when they allowed some dozen+ fan sites to come and play the build for a 2 day summit, they were playing a 1-3 month old build.

Anywho, thanks for the vid drop. I'm always scouring for stuff off of normal routes - really great to see some beta gameplay. That NDA is choking any leaked info from coming out.

In the beginning it showed the screen showing 2 Republic Faction characters and 1 Imperial Faction character - I wonder if it means in this build, you can have characters on both factions on the same server?

I'm only 5 minutes in so I'll likely repost after I've watched the whole thing... but damn does it look lonely in there. Moar beta keys!

You would store up "skill points" which could be used in other professions specific to those points [ie: ranged points for ranged professions, melee points for melee, etc]- then you'd have to grind up the rest to be master.

At this point, you can re'spec within the same Advanced Class by going back to your capital world, so likely have to pay some fee. Also they are saying you can also switch your Advanced Class entirely, though how often and stringent this will be is yet to be decided. Dual spec'ng is not in and will likely not be in at launch, but they are looking into it if there is a need.

Everyone keeps saying it looks like KoTOR, and yeah maybe the graphics aren't top notch, but this game is the spiritual successor to KoTOR and the main draw to that series has always been the story. I get sick of WoW everytime I get on because it's a pain to solo and there is no story really. Sure many of the NPC's say stuff but most of it is fluffy drivel.

This looks more along the lines of what I am looking for honestly. I like it.
