Really? Hmmm, went in with my assassin tank on normal mode, made it to the first six pull by myself(after you go through the gate). Figured heroic was a lot harder with how they were hitting the tank I was healing on my Sorcerer(although he was a Jug and they kind of suck at tanking large quantities of mobs, seem to be much better suited for taking one nasty mob).
Heh, agreed on Jug/Guardian.

The trash pulls may be beefier on hardmode, but the places you can actually wipe (turret fight, packed room with the screamers near the end, bonus boss), are about the same either way. Actually, the hardmode PUG I was with was in a hurry and skipped the bonus boss, so he may be somewhat stronger (already the hardest thing in the FP in normalmode) or have a tighter enrage.

End fight was easy either way.

Video interview with Gabe Amatangelo, mostly on 1.2 changes to the PvP system.

In short:
Ranked WZs will appear immediately. The "season" for ranked WZs will begin when cross-server PvP queueing goes live. Cross-server will prioritize same-server people, but obviously if you start trying to avoid/pick certain WZs that won't happen. Totally revamped (non-bag-based) PvP gearing system, including starter 50 PvP stuff.

i did end up buying it since Amazon had it for sale for $40.

started a Jedi Knight and thats kind of cool but a bit boring. I think I'm level 7 right now.

started a Smuggler too and got to 4 or 5 and the story is more interesting but I'm not really digging the combat.

Is it normal for the beginning areas to be dead? I see very few other players so far.

Yes, mainly because you picked the republic and because there is truly one one central zone - The republic fleet. Beyond that, people are scattered around the 30+ zones (planets, instances easily make 30+ zones)

But, yes, I agree that it feels empty quite a bit. I play on Kathol Rift and it sure seems like we don't have many people as I keep PVPing with the same group. Not a bad group of people though.

any way to find out how many people are actually playing at any given time? i searched around for subscription statistics but all i found was the 1.7M copies sold in dec.

i'm just curious what their retention rate was since i started seeing the thanksgiving/christmas full length commercials running again on primetime tv recently.

i just started a republic character last night and there were a bunch of other people in the starting zone. it really depends on the server you choose. although if you arent finding the story or combat fun, im not sure how much having other people around will matter :p
but seriously, the server you choose makes a ton of difference as does which side you are on.

also, i think sometime in april they are going to have server transfers available, or so i have been told.

On my server I never felt like I was in a particularly high pop area at any point while levelling as Imperial; I think the planets simply have enough quest hubs and enough instances that there's really not a lot of visible 'concentration' of people aside from on the fleets. On my alts I've done a lot of levelling without doing much anything but class quests and pvp/space dailies; which simply doesn't put you 'out in the world' that much.

I do think the imperial/republic balance on ours has evened out a lot as well. last night we played two voidstars and a civil war before getting huttball, and the huttball was in fact against republic. They also have a definite presence on Ilum anymore as well, most days you can find republic ops groups vying for control of central multiple times in a day.

The lack of people while questing does seem odd to me. I watched the trilogy this weekend and noticed how the planets/cities are swarming with people. When I go to Tatooine in this game, the city has a couple dozen NPCs in it. Would be interesting to see a game like this render additional NPCs on the client end to give that appearance. From a getting quests done, it is nice not having to fit 20 other people for the same resource.

Pretty much, I think they have a lot of people spread out in different servers

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I need some help with upgrading my pc. Currently I have an i7 920, 24GB RAM, Nvidia GTX580, 256GB Plextor M3 on a fresh install of Win 7 x64 Ultimate with the latest drivers. This is pushing two 1080p monitors and I'm trying to run at max settings. Things are great most of the time, but then I run into sub 20 fps while on the fleet, on Ilum or in warzones. I also take a hit in busy sections of space combat. What is the most economical path to fix the FPS issue and keep max settings. I'm open to a new cpu/mb or SLI if necessary.

ask in the general hardware subforum, since that is pretty much what that one is for. not saying people in this forum dont know anything, and i am sure you will get a lot of advice, but there are a lot of pretty knowledgeable people in that subforum who dont hang out in this one. :)

Don't the bezels obstruct your view of your character?

I don't think there's anything you can do about Ilum powerpoint to be honest but it does seem like you get more for your money in this game if you upgrade the cpu. My bro just went from a 6990 to a 7970 CF setup. Ilum is playable but still choppy. :hmm:

Does this game not give you any information at all? It's telling me to select crafting skills. So I go to one guy and click on him thinking it will tell me what his skill does. nope, it automatically sets that skill for me and I have no idea what it is or does or is used for.

Edit: figured out I have to read the codex for the info...

I've felt like this the entire time playing. I can choose my advanced class now and I i'm looking at the skill trees and I have no idea what half of them even mean.

You have to look at your Codex, press "L", to see what the crew skills are and see what other crew skills go along with it. It's a little cumbersome so you're better off looking for a guide online or something.

damnit...i can't find a class that I really like.

I've got a Jedi knight up to 11, a bounty hunter to 4, a smuggler to 4 or 5, and a trooper up to about 5.

Bounty hunter seems the most fun however with all of the ranged classes, i seem to die very quickly.

Trooper is pretty high damage and I like some of his skills. I think Jedi the coolest looking combat skills so far.

Jedi Consular as Sage (healing + DPS) is fun, and you get a melee tank companion on the first planet, unlike Jedi Knight where you don't get the healer you need until the fifth or sixth planet.

Smuggler gunslinger was tough for me at first because your ranged tank is an idiot who harpoons everyone close to you so they can kill you (you can turn off that "skill" though). When you get your melee tank and gear him up it gets better.

Trooper as Commando DPS was a walk in the park for me -- your initial DPS companion makes your combined firepower enough to melt away opponents, and then you get a healer who still does useful damage on the side.

Picked this up on the Amazon sale to play with my wife. What are some good Sith Empire advanced class duos?

Looks like both Sith start on one planet and Imperial Agent and Bounty Hunter start on another. If you start on different planets how long before you can group up?

After the first planet, the stories pretty much merge together. Honestly, no matter what classes you pick, you will roll through the game with ease. Just play what you want even if it's redundant.

Keep going with Bounty Hunter. You will pick up Death from Above and purposely wait for the cool downs so you can use it. :) You also pick up a healing companion which will help you stay a live a bit more. :)

Powertech has been really fun to play thus far, I'm loving having both a charge and a pull. Lot of buttons though lol, gotta work on my keybinds.

Also one of the guilds on our server organized a duel tournament this weekend, good friend of mine streamed it and came in second place. Final 8 was almost all assassins and marauders lol but took forever, so glad I skipped it. Was cool though, dueling doesn't mean much games but I think in SWTOR most classes have at least a fighting chance against most of the others and with champion gear so widely available it made for a pretty even playing field.

I think going Bounty Hunter Merc/Sith Marauder is a popular route to play. Had a couple do just that up to 50.

Also going with the Sorc/Marauder option is good too.

Just depends on what you want to go with. If you want to stay on the same planet from day 1, you've got BH/Agent on Hutta and Inquisitor/Warrior on Korriban.

Bounty Hunters Advanced classes are Merc (DPS) and Powertech (Tank)
Agent Advanced classes are Sniper (Ranged DPS) and Operative (Ranged healer)

Sith Warrior Advanced classes are Juggernaut (Tank) and Marauder (Melee DPS)
Sith Inquisitor Advanced classes are Sorcerer (Heals/DPS) and Assassin (DPS)

Hope it helps. And if you're looking for a guild to join, I run the Dragon Wolves on Jung-Ma. Send me a PM and I'll get you details on how to join us.

hit the level 50 slicing missions on my level 25 jedi knight this weekend.

it's weird... my mission failure rates seem to have skyrocketed up, but it's usually balanced out by the occasional epic 340 mission discovery that I can sell on the trade network for tens of thousands of credits.
