I'm slowly closing in on the top of my division for Diamond. If any high level players (particularly Z) would like to play some BO5's or something let me know. I typically play during the day atm because I'm working overnight at General Motors for the next two weeks.

Edit: I'm a Toss 1v1, but typically random in team games.

I'm an average diamond level Z player. Only 300 at the moment but I'm not at my ceiling yet, I just haven't had time to play.

I also work nights so I'm awake at funky hours.

ZvP is my worst matchup.

Yea I'm only at about 300 points as well, so we might be a good fit for each other. We should try to get some games in. :)

Well I went 3 and 2 in my 1v1 matches and ended up in Gold. Pretty much exactly what I expected. I got steamrolled on the first game that I lost, and the second was because I didn't notice the separate rocks entrance at the back of my base and was a victim of the old sneak attack. That's what I get for not knowing any of the maps and skipping the practice matches.

I'm hoping that the games start to even out a little more for me. It seems that I either obliterate the competition or I get completely obliterated. I've only done 5 1v1's and only 1 of those was a real fight, but I still had complete domination of the map and knew I was going to win. I decided to play as protoss btw cause I feel like everybody plays terran.

I'd love to 2v2 or 3v3 or 4v4 with anyone near my range (mid-Plat), let me know.

the lopsided game issue happens less the more games you play. The system is trying to figure out what your skill level is and what league you belong in. So to do this it will match you up with people worse and better than you and the more games you play the better it can determine your skill level. Also winning against higher ranked players is awesome, gives me tons of points.

a lot of people are atm using some sort of cheese or all-in taktik... if you are not familiar with the enemy build you are going to loose if you prepare for a "normal", longer game.
so in order to win a lot of games you simply need to learn the other teams cheese taktiks and use a proper counter.

as a zerg player in platin i finally came to the conclusion that i win much more games if i skip the expansion (fast expand is an often used taktik by a lot of zerg players) and use an aggressive 1 base build that counters the enemy push and destroys the enemies eco afterwards.

Agreed, aggressive 1 base build>fast expansion....seemed like every game i played yesterday someone would be attacked within 4 min

I'm just going to start posting in here whenever I get crushed by some lame rush tactic.

First up, playing as terran, how do I defend against a void ray rush? I had turrets everywhere and they got raped. Literally more than 15 turrents.

If the void rape isnt charged, I would say quick starport for vikings + a group of marines eat void rays.

i say the 15 turret is your problem. hehe

use the money into more marines or vikings.

also learn to scout or scan early in the game to see what the enemy is trying to build.

if they have one gateway, cyber, and assimilator out. you know they might be going VRs or DTs.

most of the time to win you have to predict what they are going to build and know what counters those units.

my opening build is usually banshee harass then vikings and finally tank/marines with vikings.

anyways, i currently play alot of 3v3 random and am diamond rank 8.
add me if anyone wants to win some easy league game.

You can actually get more vikings faster than he can get void rays. Vikings also make a good unit for hit and run worker harassment, so you can stop his void rays with your vikings at home and make sure he can't get anything else for a while at the same time. 1 medium sized group of vikings near your base for protection and one 2-3 unit strike group flown into his base and then converted to ground mode in his probe line when he attacks will mess his shit up good.

Vikings are a unit I have really learned to love lately.

Vikings and Marines counter VR's the key is to spot them early and DO NOT BUILD THORS AS A COUNTER. I've seen this happen before and Thors are not a counter to VR's it's pretty much the other way around.

I got pretty frustrated last night, I'm in silver 1v1 (got dc'd on placement match) but I keep getting games against gold/platinum players. I'm fine with that however it is really annoying when all they do is rush, the first two I wasn't really ready for and got rolled in like 5min. Then I just got uber pissed and took it out on some poor guy who called me a bitch then left and some zerg who built banelings to counter my tanks/thors to which I laughed.

Also go into a base race with another Terran that he won, I completely screwed up my macro, but it ended with me trying to rebuild a CC while stealing his techlab with my 1 remaining factory but he saw me. But it was fun, he and I were both laughing as we both only had 5 units left and I wasn't going to be an ass and just float around.

Void rays can be countered fairly easily off of a single rax-core + port-core. If you know what's coming the investment into marine/viking will counter very well. For zerg, hydra is the perfect counter, but if the rays come before lair tech, an extra queen or two can really do wonders to protect your hatcheries. In toss matches, you don't see early void rushes that much because of fast core and stalkers, but stalkers/sentries/phoenixes are a good combo and definitely feasible in the early game to fend off a ray heavy harass.

Also, scouting is one of the most important aspects of the game. Cheese tactics and other all in type stuff can be countered if you know that it's coming. As terran player you have scan, protoss has obs, and zerg have map control with ovies and seers. If you're prepared for the hit, you can do major economic damage with a counter and base raid. Keep in mind that your opponent is limited by resources as much as you are. Try to think what is possible with the tech he has when you scout and compare it to what you have. If you're on top of your economy, you can whittle down the possibilities for your own strategic needs and prepare with the best possible unit composition. Remember to scout as much as possible throughout the game so you're rarely ever in the dark.

yea my problem was I scouted him and saw the rush but I was trying to tech to tanks really quick and ended up getting caught with my pants down and like 2 marines which as not enough. I also stupidly pulled my scv's off my wall so they weren't there to repair and by the time they got there they had busted a depot.

I was more mad at myself for getting caught by the tactic since I know how to counter it.

God, I haven't played in so long lol. I lock up under pressure and forget what to do.

yea this was happening to me for awhile as well, and then I realized it's just for fun so there's no point getting all stressed out over it. My opponent and I were making jokes about me trying to steal his tech lab during the final moments of the game even though I was losing. Was a good time.

Yeah, I am getting annihilated by everyone. The first 2 games were easy but now either Void Rush or Voids and Carriers. I can't seem to get around it. The bases being blocked in prevents me from bringing in Stalkers unless I blink.

I can't figure out how to counter them in the practice matches. Or anything else for that matter.

Yeah, I thought about Thors at first since even their descriptions try and push them as "uber anti-air", but when I looked into the unit more..

http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Thor

You see that it only gains a damage bonus on air vs Light targets, but the Void Ray is an armored target. The Viking gains a damage bonus against armored targets and based on its attack speed + damage, it will deal damage to a VR faster... but it also doesn't last as long :p. Fortunately, it's a lot cheaper to build.

I find Marines tend to get eaten up by VRs though.. I guess it's not as bad if the Viks are taking the heat though.

at least from watching/playing the beta (haven't actually touched MP during retail aside from a few UMS maps )

stimmed marines are the way to counter the VR rush.
thor are good for anti-muta.
later on, vikings work well overall as AA. also key for TvT matches.

So we should stream it with someone commentating... any volunteers? :D

Available tonight? My semester just ended so I can play all night, but I'll be working all weekend and won't be available until late Monday or anytime on Tuesday.
