I hope your right! I had the Cat 3.0 drivers running with my 9700 Pro. Ran great! I went ahead and upgraded to the new 3.2 Cat drivers since I reinstalled XP. Hope there as good if not better then the previous 3.0 drivers.

I never would of guessed going over to the other side buying a ATI card. It does rock though, BIG TIME!!
Both 9500 Pro or 9700 are the only way to go!

So far My board seams to be most stable at 175x10. I set my ram at 7 3 3 2.5. The tbred A is what seams to be holding me back. I've had the fsb up to 185, but I dont have great cooling. I ordered another stick of 256mb corsair xms last night, While running some bench marks last night I could see my system can really hog the memory. I'm sure 512mb will be plenty.

I'm actually enjoying this overclocking a little more than I thought I would. Thinking of getting an SLK-900.

hey Bojax, The SLK-900 is bolt on and our board doesn't have the holes for it so it won't work. I'd get a Sk-7 for $19.99 at SVC and put the extra money towards a 1700+ T-bred B and have an even better time overclocking

Hi guys. I'm glad y'all are holding it down for the FRN2 on the AT forums. There's a huge following over at Amdmb. I just wanted to share my setup:

XP2100+ @ 2ghz @ 10 x 200mhz @ 1.6V
SL-7FRN2-L
2x256mb Samsung PC3200 @ 200mhz @ 7 - 3 - 3 - 2.5

Id tighten the memory timings a bit if I didn't already like my scores on Sandra. So I'll just stand pat. Oh yeah. I was wondering how y'all were cooling (if you even are) the southbridge. I'm using a Zalman NB heatsink but I wanted to know what all your thoughts are on cooling this puppy. Has anyone noticed an increase in stability? Oh yeah, a warning for those thinking of following my suit. The Zalman is quite tall so it may or may not fit with a newer video card. I got an old GF2 Pro so I had no problems.

Hey MutantXP I've been hanging around AMDMB and Nforcershq to keep up with all that's happening since this place is presently Epox Fanboy Central And of course Asusboards is mostly....Asus! who'd have thought NEways that's a nice setup you have there! BTW, I went with the small low profile chipset cooler from the Vantec Iceberg kit for my SB and it is assisted by a 80mm case fan blowing across it. I left the NB cooler stock like in the pics I posted earlier in the thread because it works well, isn't overly noisy, and looks good combined with my AeroFlow. I know a lot of cats are going for the dead silent mods now but I find the soft hum my systems produce soothing. I stand by my assertion about timings that I made ealier in the thread as well and don't see any reason to perfer tighter timings over 20mhz DDR ram speed improvement by using relaxed timings.

Hi guys,

I just built a new system with this SL-75FRN2-L mobo. I have the XP2100+ (Throughbred B), and 2 sticks of 256mb pc2100 memory from CompUSA. I have them sitting at 1st and 3rd slot. The 3rd slot memory was seated first, because the manual says this is how you trigger the double bank or something that supposedly doubles the memory speed. I'm not sure if my memory supports this, I don't think it will hurt them. Time will tell Anyway, I think my memory sticks are PNY because I am getting a rebate on them from PNY. I also have a cheap cooler from Galaxy. It is their monster cooler with 80mm fan. It is rated at XP2100+ speed. I also have the Gainward GF3 Ti200 128 DDR memory.

Anyway, I am running at the default multiplier with the FSB jumper set on the motherboard on default, which is 100 or 133Mhz auto detect. In the BIOS, however, I have selected the 166Mhz FSB. I have also selected the "aggressive" setting. Now, my system is running at XP2700+ speed, which is 2.1... something Ghz. It is totally stable. This performance level is supposed to rival P4 2.8Ghz. I'm not sure, though. The system is so fast, it is giving me a headache. I have a stupid 5400rpm 15 gig hd (I am getting a new one this weekend). Imagine how much faster it will be if I get a 7200rpm 8mb cache drive? I can't believe it is overclocking this well with a standard pc2100 memory with cheap cooler. If I can do this with a regular pc2100, imagine what you can do with Corsair XMS 3200 (double bank or something stuff)? I'm sorry for lack of full specific information. I'm a newbie to overclocking who want to become a "guru" like many of you out there.

Can someone answer me one question? My understanding is that as long as I am not playing around with the multiplier or chaning the voltage to push the chip further, my aluminum bottom cheap cooler will not harm the CPU. Is this true? It is currently running 34~38 degree stable for the CPU. Should I be worried about the current cooler?

You can use a drop of epoxy in the corner and use AS or whatever you like on the rest or, like I did, use the 3M double sided thermal adhesive which is working quite well for me. Some nay sayers claim it's not nearly as effective as AS but the transfere of heat to the sink is evidence enough for me that it's doing a good job

Kingston Hyper-X 3000 2-256 Duel Channel
Thermal AX-7 I think its called with 80MM Fan

Running Expert mode. 13X133/160FSB = 2.080=2700+ CPU Temp Avg. 30-32C
Run rock solid! (Keeping FInger Crossed) Been running all kinds of benchmarks going though the roof! hehehe

I'll let this run a few days and up we go again! Also a question, like Im running my multipier at the default 13X and just raising the FSB. Why do some people lower the mulipier? Is it because sometimes you can get more O/Cing from the FSB if running into problems or should I say not reaching far having the multiplier setup higher? All depending on your hardware?


BTW..freshspace first off 34-38C is fine! Espeically if you havnt bumped any volts anywhere. I would just keep an eye on the temp just incase. I would also say no your aluminum bottom wont hurt anything aslong as your temps stay in spec. Also I use Artic Silver on ALL my CPUS for the best preformance. I dont think I would be worried but if I had the money I would buy a new H/S. BTW you never said what kind of H/S you have just curious?

Hey freshspace nice overclock you have goin' there, especially at default vcore and multi! Your temps look great and the cooler you have won't hurt the CPU, at worst it'll just limit the overclock due to heat, but I would leave it where it's at since that's a very sweet spot of performance vs voltage&heat

Yes, you will see a big difference with a faster HDD and for a self proclaimed N00b you certainly are doing all the right things so keep it up because you're closer to 1337 status than you think

Hey, guys. For some reason, I've been encountering some heat problems. Hell, I don't even know if they're heat problems. But on idle, my external cpu temp is 45 degrees. On full load, the cpu jumps maxes out at around 49 degrees. Does that make any sense? If these are bad temperatures, what can I do to fix it? I'm running a Volcano 9 right now.

Those temps are reasonable for the HSF you have.

Are you using the version 2.05 Hardware monitor for NF2 chipsets that displays the ABII temp available@Soltek's HQ site?

Not sure on this but I thought I read somewhere if you have Windows XP with SP1 you dont need to install the USB 2.0 drivers from Solteks CD? I guess it doesnt matter for me since I dont have any USB devices running at 2.0 but was just curious If I switch to one will I need to install any extra software?

Also GREAT job DAPUNISHER on getting everything together in your first post!! I really think it will help instead of scrolling through pages trying to find certian good ideals/tips you and others list thoughout this topic! Yea that would be cool if BentValve could post or PM you anything we might be missing or feels might be important.

To be honest I'm kinda confused about the USB2.0 issue myself. I just traded posts with a guy at NforcersHQ and he seemed to have the same experience as you with SP1 providing the drivers but I used the UD 2.03s and not the soltek drivers and I had a ! in the device mangler so I had to direct it to the soltek CD and update the driver. It just states it's a enhanced USB instead of USB2.0 like my Intel systems do

Hi,

under XP you can set the system environment variable devmgr_show_details = 1

Then you should see in the device manager at every property page of a device an equestrian named DETAILS.

Now you should check in each Usb Root Hub device, the device instance Id in the Detail equestrian. One Usb Root Hub should have the instance id named USB/ROOT_HUB20/......

Remember you must have Winxp SP1 for USB 2.0 functionality.
