Can someone who has it confirm/deny that it allows 2 player co-op on the same console via split-screen?

You can play two player on the same screen, but the co-op mode is not like the first game...you can't play through the campaign in co-op mode. I was actually really disappointed that they took that out, and you only get to carry two weapons at a time...

Single player is pretty fun though, I'm two levels in.

You can't play Co-op in campaign mode?!! Seriously, what are these game developers thinking? Playing the campaign is SO much better when playing with friends. WTH? Why would they take something like this out?

It was a gamble they took in order to allow something huge for co-op mode. And I doubt they really wanted to offer TWO co-op modes.
But who knows, maybe they will release some DLC/expansion. They do things like that, and love PSN.

Well hold on, will the dedicated co-op mode allow for more than 2 players online? Is it like a separate campaign type game? If so, that would be AWESOME!

Yeah, but they are BIIIIIIIIIIIIG aliens. Possibly the biggest boss fights in the genre. You also have some cool multiplayer options, like 8-player TF2-like co-op and a 60-man vs. mode (which I'll pass on - I need a mouse for vs. competition).

Bigger than Serious Sam?

Haha, that's what I was thinking. I don't they get any bigger than that.

RE: Co-op

Co-op is a completely separate campaign. You can play 2-player on the same console with split-screen, for both an offline 2-player game or as members of an 8 man online team. SERIOUS DEFECT (the ONLY negative thing I've experienced): While playing 2-player co-op on the same console, the stats/XP/etc are only saved for the person signed in to the game. That means that you can play with a buddy for hours and hours, leveling up, and then when you return the next day, only player 1 retains the stats and player 2 has to start all over. IMO, this is absolutely atrocious. We can only hope that Insomniac issues a fix for this. Single player online co-op is ridiculously fun though. The team aspect is great; the three classes are very reliant on one another, meaning you have to play well with others.

Anyone want to play sometime? PSN - kstujmu

Insomniac has stated that a patch is on the way to fix stuff like stats not being saved for player 2 n local co-op.

Anyone beat the game yet? The ending has one of the biggest cliffhangers...EVER. And not just in a "holy crap, I wonder what happens next kind of way", but more like "WTF just happened? WTF is going on? This makes no sense...WTF? That's the ending?". I say my frustration would be similar to/if Harry Potter ending in a cliff hanger as follows:

Voldemort is about to die after Harry used that killing spell. However, he gets a few last words out: "Harry...I have a master...and he's 100% way more evil, scarier, and stronger than me...and, so...here he comes. Kbye".

Suddenly, the ground shakes and Hogwarts starts to be ripped apart by some unkown force. Everything and everything seems doomed. And then everyone is transported to another planet, or something.

Harry says, "WTF?"

The end.

R2's ending is about as frustrating as that ending would be.

Ok...this game is love/hate. It's one of the most dialed in FPS games I've played on the PS3 when it comes to shooting but it's got some major cheeze points.

Right now I'm trying to finish off the "swarm" but I just keep dying and dying and dying. I don't know if it's my timing or just horrible sequencing on the games part but I'm ready to stop playing. I can get through the first "generator" but everyone after that I lure in the swarm and it just keeps killing me.

Lame. Oh and jumping sucks in this game.

Lame. Oh and jumping sucks in this game.

Yeah the game blends in a lot of platforming-style elements with bosses/mini-bosses, and the Swarm was the biggest bitch of them all.

What's funny, is how they made moments like that in the game play out like Quick Time Events in action/platforming games of recent, yet didn't need the standard QTE-style of on-screen button presses. To me, that shows you don't need the boring QTE style and just proper in-game execution and heavily hinted instructions. Feels like more of an accomplishment in my mind, while still staying heavily scripted.

With the swarm, the big timing thing is to let it go around the generator, then jump out of it on the opposite side, it'll chase toward you, and at the right moment jump back into the generator, still facing the swarm. Then pretty much continue backing up out of the generator, or back into it if it didn't follow. I had some crazy close calls getting out in time, but it's not terribly difficult once you can get the swarm to cooperate, and you don't get stuck on the supports of the generator while backing up, and get butchered in the process.

I think it was luck on normal, but i beat the swarm 1st time didnt even take a hit.

i just picked tihs game up 2 days ago ...

and damn, this is one solid game.

i've only been playing single player, and i just finished the Idaho level. So far tihs game has completely sucked me in. It's just a ton of fun and has a ton of variety. I haven't touched multiplayer yet and probably won't until I finish single player. I love the boss fights and big ass enemies in tihs game.

I did have to change the controls big time, but the fact each button can be mapped to what you want it to, that helps big time.

2 thumbs up from me for sure.

Yeah, that's what sells this game. The way it presents itself, and the variety. You can find every style of game play in it. And personally, I enjoyed every style they included. The game is one big throwback of sorts to older games, where basically every game had boss fights and whatnot. Yes, they have specific vulnerabilities which can seem retarded, but that's a boss fight. In real life you ain't fighting a giant boss in the first place, so anyone who bitches about the bosses and how they are taken down need to shut the hell up. Don't scrutinize the elements and just have fun as it was made for that.

But yep, any person going into it looking for strictly an FPS shooter looking for realistic moments, then it won't be a fun game. Going into it with no mindset and just to enjoy it, the game promises to fulfill on many occasions.
It's just a fun game to play, and sucks you in. And I don't get how people bashed the story saying it there wasn't much of it - ..... eh? There is a lot of story and backstory presented, with the backstory being hidden elements like they should be. The game has a lot of lore that I just really enjoy. The Resistance universe is probably one of my favorite FPS stories.

Wait till you get to multiplayer. There is so much to offer for everyone's play style, you won't be disappointed I bet. 🙂

I enjoyed kicking the pseudo Cloverfield's ass, and most of the play through was a good time. I did not like how it ended, or that Hale spoke often, since that voice acting just didn't work for me. CO-OP was not my cup of tea at all, removing campaign co-op made this a rental instead of a purchase title.

this game is pretty awesome, been playing it a lot lately. damn online games got me hooked. see you guys on the battlefield.

How is the coop - opinions?
There is no campaign co-op, instead you pick a class-soldier, medic, spec-op, and work together to complete goals. I didn't hate it, but the degree of interdependence makes army of 2 feel like lone wolf 😛 I haven't played TF2, but from what I've read it is probably a weak sauce version of that style of play.

I guess I am just much more interested in playing and completing a game's campaign, with 1 or more friends. Despite the lack of storyline for the co-op player in the first game, it was still a blast to play the campaign that way, that is all I was after again. Including the 2nd player in the storyline would have been gold IMO.

well it is a campaign of sorts. There is no specific order of levels, but each level has a reason why you are doing it, and there is just as much intelligence to be collected in that as the single player, and the missions alone suggest some good underlying story. It's just presented in a different manner so that it doesn't bore those not looking for story.

Personally I don't care if there is no story in the first game. You can still just play with your buddy, it doesn't need to be the campaign. I don't know why that is a big deal - you've already played through it.
I guess for me co-op story mode has never been a big thing for me. I've rarely ever played them because I rarely have someone to tackle it with, thus it's not a make or break for purchases. I'm after story mode first and foremost, and then if it has a good multiplayer, it'll be played after.

destrekor,

I didn't play long enough to discover the intel or anything, and I am glad the CO-OP filled you with stoke, those like yourself were evidently the target audience.

I don't know why that is a big deal - you've already played through it.
For myself, the best part of the Halo and Gears games, and the first Resistance, was playing through the campaign on co-op, the SP isn't nearly as fulfilling to me *for lack of a better term*. I read about why they went the direction they did with the co-op, it makes sense for story development and perspective, but as it came at the expense of campaign co-op, it cost them a sale.

Campaign co-op also allows me to complete a game on the hardest difficulty without nearly as much rinse&repeat, which is another thing I like about it. It is often the hardest skill level where the A.I. is the best it can be too.

You can't please everybody, in this case, they failed to please me, and <comic book guy> I have voiced my displeasure on the internets. </> 😉

Ok, I played through Resistance 1 twice, and most of R2 (campaign) at this point. Here's my two cents regarding R2.

SPOILER ALERT!

1. Nathan Hale is the strong silent type. He ain't supposed to talk much. Does being infected turn you into Chatty Cathy?

2. Two weapons at a time sucks donkey balls. If I want realism in a game about aliens invading the earth in the 1950's, I'll ask for it. Gimme the 10-weapons-at-once glory of R1!

3. I HATE zombies! There, I said it. I hate creepy games. One reason I liked R1 was because it wasn't creepy, just action-packed. I know, I know. A lot of other people love zombies. I just don't.

4. I hate not being able to kill stuff. If it moves, it should die if I shoot it enough times with any weapon. I'm looking at you, stupid shark-man-bearpig water thingies!

5. Boss fights. See #4. Except for the Cloverfield guy. That, I can understand not being able to kill with regular weapons. Still, I hate having to learn how to kill bosses by trial and error.

6. Last night, I played Coop Split Screen. There are 3 character classes. There are 2 people playing. WTF? Somebody MUST be Spec Ops, or you run out of ammo. The medic was better than I thought it would be, though. Overall, it was fun, but how about having the enemy drop ammo and weapons that you can pick up? How about health canisters so you don't have to have a medic? Three classes probably works great if you have 8 people playing but it's just stupid with only two people.

7. I really was hoping that you could play the campaign coop. 🙁

8. For whatever reason, R2 is much harder than R1. I think maybe it's because it's harder for me to gauge my actual health, and the enemies are better shots.

9. I like the buzzsaw gun.

I just beat R2 a few days ago and have been messing around online multiplayer coop games... Unfortunately, I'm not having too much fun with it. I was expecting something on the level of CoD4, but it doesn't feel as good. It lacks... substance. The single player campaign was really fun, but the multiplayer just doesn't do it for me. Does it get better the more I play?

Well your problem was were you expecting something. This game isn't the gritty playstyle like COD4. Now, if you want that, look forward to Killzone 2, which looks like it might just be everything COD4 was, and take it to a much higher level (I played in the beta for a bit, and it was glorious).

It's more like a combo of Halo style with, it's own thing. But what's great is you can get into it in any way you want. They really ended up making it the PS3's answer to Halo 3, which I'm not too fond of that decision, but I still enjoy the gameplay. But playing 5v5 team deathmatch is a wholly different experience compared to 30v30 deathmatch. And hell, throw skirmish into it, and it's far more different. Skirmish is a great game mode that really gives you a whole different game play feel compared to the rest of the modes.

But I'll always enjoy R2's multiplayer and co-op, and the big thing that just makes you enjoy it more is the leveling up system. As you progress you unlock things. Sometimes a new level just brings new accessories or skins, but every now and then it gets you a new berserk (similar to perks from COD4), or even new weapons.

Though, once Killzone 2 comes out, I think the majority of my multiplayer gaming is going to be dedicated to that.

Well yeah, and I agree that no one game is going to please everyone. That's acceptable.

Though, if you want something insane, beat the single player once, then play it in Arcade mode. I think you only get 3 lives, but it might be more, and not sure if you can earn extra lives. I'm gonna try that one day, once it's been long enough since having played it last.
And if you beat it on Hard (Arcade Mode doesn't made here iirc), you unlock an even harder setting.

Ok, so I beat the single-player campaign mode.

WTF? I mean, really, WTF just happened?

SPOILER

I think Hale says the exact same words that Daedalus said when you first see him. Something like "It's beautiful". Then he gets his brains blown out.

WTF? Is there an explanation somewhere? I really hate letdown endings. :|
