Chris Redfield extra costume. Leopard-print Man Thong apparently. Not sure why they're adding it now...

Uh...

But seriously, any idea what this patch fixed and/or added?

Rumor has it, that it is prepping for the upcoming versus DLC.

Still can't believe you have to PAY for that. Utterly retarded, it should have been included with the game (it's been out less than a month!). This is the same crap that Epic pulled with GoW 2 making the first "add on map pack" $10 when it was released like 2-3 weeks after the game. If you can release the content that fast it means it was completed when the game shipped and therefore should have been included. Stupid Cliffy and his "people shouldn't pay for add-ons" lies.

Agreed, kinda BS that they did this. But I am also not sure how fun it would be to run, stop, aim, shoot, repeat at friends. Don't get me wrong the game was great and the formula works well for it. I just don't see a multiplayer mode being very entertaining.

I'm with you on that as well, some games simply do not work as multiplayer games. The old "Everything or Nothing" Bond game was one of 'em for me. This seems like a "people are complaining that the game isn't long enough etc so we need to add more random stuff!" move.

There's so many other things I'd rather have seen them do. What about a mode similar to the "operation Ada" or whatever the RE4 game was that let you play as Ada? Add a better Mercenaries game, the existing one is so-so but too easy in duo and too hard solo. This just seems to be a poor decision for extra content.

I actually sold my copy a week or so ago, I beat the game ~4 times, got an "A" on all the Mercenaries missions, and the upcoming vs. modes just seemed gimmicky.

At least it's only $5 for a new game mode, unlike Epic charging $10 for a few maps.

Also kabob983, if you dislike the game so much, why are you posting in the thread?

Umm, please show me one post where I said I disliked the game? PLEASE! If you'll notice I sorta started the thread and I've given the game praise...

I LOVED the game, I thought it was great, but I got about as much out of it as I was going to after 4 playthroughs. That's pretty good for any game.

In generally don't sell games that I LOVE, since I enjoyed them so much, I would be extremely likely to play them again in the future. But, that's just me. :)

Anyway, do we have a list of gamertags of folks who want to play RE5 online? I'm getting it next week from Amazon, and I would be interested in trying out Mercs Co-Op or even playing the main game with a teammate!

I do plan on playing it again in the future, it'll be a while though. Figure I'd sell it off a little cheaper now to someone else and when I get interested again in a while I'll pick it up again.

Wow, I was so wrong. Capcom is SO much lamer than Epic for charging for this...

The news, the vs. DLC is ALREADY ON THE DISC! You're just paying to unlock it! That's a new level of low. How long until you buy a game and have to pay $5/chapter or level to play it? This is just stupid!

I am tired of all these conspiracy theories. If it was just an unlock code, then 1.86 MB is a pretty dang big string of characters.

The fact of the matter is, there are no new assets in this DLC. There are no new graphics, sounds, levels, etc. It uses the game engine that *shock of all shocks* already exists on the disc because it is the game! The VS mode is just new code that adds functionality to the game engine. Hence, it is small in size.

Seriously, people just believe whatever FUD they read, and don't bother to think/research for themselves. It is a scary recurrence in today's society when the uninformed masses get all whipped into a furor and grab their pitchforks...

What PROOF is there that everything is already on the disc and the DLC is just an "unlock code?" Right...there is no proof, just speculation because the DLC is so small.

/facepalm

The only good thing that might come out of all this ignorance is maybe Capcom will feel the pressure from the masses wielding their pitchforks and offer the DLC for free as an "act of good will."

Umm, consipracy theory? Capcom admitted it...

Capcom defended itself to IGN by saying they still required extra resources to develop the versus mode functionality,so it's justified in charging extra.

In English:

"We had to write new code to patch into the game to create VS mode."

Of course all the assets were already on the disc...VS MODE DOES NOT ADD ANY NEW GRAPHICS, SOUNDS, ETC.

Have you ever programmed before? I reckon not. Compiled code is very small. 1.86 MB is actually quite large for code.

I love how folks scream "IT IS JUST AN UNLOCK CODE!" and fail to realize that 1.86 MB IS NOT AN UNLOCK CODE. Unlock codes are 108k on XBOX Live. This is a standard from Microsoft.

Seriously, put the pitchfork down and stop spreading FUD. Read. Think. Learn.

Why do you care anyway? I thought you sold the game?

I did sell the game and, as mentioned, probably will buy it again eventually. I probably care for the same reason you do even thoguh you don't even own the game...

So you find nothing at all wrong/suspicious about this?

Let me ask you this.

Is "Online VS Multiplayer Deatmatch Mode!" included in the list of features on the back of the game box?

If yes, then Capcom is pulling a fast one.

If no, then it was never an advertised feature of the original game. You paid $60 for the game as is.

I could care less if the DLC is "only" 1.86 MB. I understand software development and that the "big stuff" (AKA assets such as graphics, sounds, movies, etc.) are already on the disc, and all this DLC does is add new code to the game.

My beef is with the forum dwellers who blindly believe wild speculation without any proof. Nobody has decompiled the game on the disc. Nobody has decompiled the DLC. Therefore, all this hoopla is mere assumption.

And I do own the game; it just isn't here yet. :)

Sometimes the anger towards DLC is justifiable. This is not one of those times. Less energy should be spent getting upset over this miniscule DLC release, and more time should be spent laughing at it. Really, an online versus mode? With these controls?

I havn't actually played the vs mode. Here is my question, How do they include the multiplayer levels in such a small file unless they are already on the disc? I know when I dl gears maps they are considerably larger than just 1.86mb.

I thought about that but I assume they use the same Mercenaries levels which are in turn just levels from the game.

You don't need to assume. Capcom has stated in press releases exactly what VS mode is. I'm guessing you didn't investigate the details yourself and instead just believe whatever you read on the forums raving against Capcom. ;)

You never answered my question though. Does the back of the RE5 box state that Online VS Mode is included? I'd wager it doesn't, so it was never a promised feature of the original shipped game.

Is this a blatant money-grab by Capcom? Yes, but so is like 99% of DLC. Why don't people rant and rave when Guitar Hero releases a DLC song pack the week after release? Those songs were done before the game shipped!

GET YOUR PITCHFORKS!!!!!!!
