I had some difficulty with Allant. After him sucking 2-3 levels from me, I decided to use a ranged approach.

Still playing Rebirth although I might be nearing the end. The last of the combat sims is really tough.

I think I'm at 240 hours.

By the way, any insights on if there will be a PS5 pro? If so, any speculation on when it will be launched?

Well, I hope it'll be Q4. I can't imagine they wouldn't have a Pro for the PS5. I mean, are we going to have a PS6?

I read about something about "Sony Live"? Is this something new or mandatory? I've never joined or paid for Sony Plus (their version of Gamepass), but considering it because I assume I can play all the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne?

PS - I'm assuming I can't play it on Steam, or I just can't find it.

Ah, I read somewhere above in this thread a poster was concerned Sony was focusing on "live" services? Which I had taken to mean either paying to play on a continuing basis or implementing a pay only PS membership to play their older games, i.e. Bloodborne. Suffice it to say, neither of which interests me. I'm a single player gamer and haven't played any MMO type games since Starcraft during a mis-spent youth. These days, I'm purely an introvert player and even with Elden Ring (my favorite game of all time) I enjoy in offline mode, since I have no interest in hints or what anyone else is doing.

I enjoy the PS 5 and will likely buy their next one, but any form of $$ for a PS 5 membership is a deal breaker. I prefer just to buy single player games.

By the way, since I've been somewhat following things again, it appears Sony will be likely to introduce the PS5 Pro in early September. Of course, I've been hearing this for several years.

Can these Sony guys walk & chew gum at the same time? They initially had 12 live service games (I know what the genre is now, but of course have zero interest in them) pared down to 6. There isn't room a good single player game, such as Blooborne remastered or even 2? It'd be like an atm machine for them, but yet they just refuse to make it. Fromsoft has proven you can indeed make single player games for people like me, not just the Candy Crush crowd.

Possible design?

Figured I’d ask the question since I’ve been pondering it.:

I have a PS5 Blu-ray edition - 825GB, doesn’t have a real lot of hours on it, had it since Nov 2022. With these Pro leaks though it does seem tempting to consider upgrading, particularly if the GPU performance is a significant improvement.

Just wanted to get a sentiment check on if y’all or folks you know are thinking similarly? Basically is the GPU improvement (3x FLOPs, but won’t translate to 1 for 1 perf correlation), worth it in you opinion?

If I were to, I’d sell the console and just wait out a bit then buy on release/when reviews came out.

I'm in the same boat. I don't think the PS5 resale value will drop much. So I would prefer to hold onto it for the time being unless I get a really, really good buyer. My PS5 cost me almost $700 (yes, this happens when you get an itch to play Gran Turismo).

I honestly don't think upgrading to the pro will be worth it but we can wait and see. It wasn't crazy noticeable from ps4 to the pro. There needs to be more exclusive titles too to push it.

It appears unlike the PS4 Pro, it will be priced above the current iteration of PS 5. So, probably $599 rather than $499? Either way, I'll likely pick one up, and this time there shouldn't be any sort of...er...artificial shortage.

While PC gaming is better in many ways, there's just something about playing one's favorite game on a large TV. I just need it to run at 60 FPS for my Souls like games.

The OS UI on the Playstation helps with its background music and animations. Gets one in the mood to play your heart out. Windows can distract you into taking a break from games. I think the OS UI/UX design is a key reason that Microsoft failed to get with the Xbox. I haven't tried Xbox Series S or X but the Xbox One S/X UI was pretty boring, almost like Windows. Aesthetics matter to the human mind and if you are able to psychologically make someone feel better with sights and sounds, you can bet they will keep coming back for more.

Agreed!

I'd probably be considered a "hardcore" gamer, meaning I'll exclusively play and master a game I really like. I've got over 1,000 hours in Elden Ring and during those hours, I had zero inclination to play any other game--didn't even want to read or hear rumors about them. I get really immersed and prefer just to fire up a console and play. With my PC, as you've said, too many distractions, e.g., alt tab to check email or some kind of alert.

All things being equal, a comfortable lounge chair and a big TV can't be beat when it comes to gaming. This is where, at least for me, PC gaming just can't emulate.

You mean with a laptop? I suppose so, but I game on my desktop, and can't imagine dragging it and hooking it up to my TVs.

Laptop or desktop. It's well within its capability. Even if you don't want to move your desktop, which is a you problem and not a PC gaming problem, you can still stream from your desktop to your TV with Steam link.

Trust me, I've done that. It's just not the same level of immersion. Exiting the game or tinkering with the graphics settings breaks immersion. Console helps you stay focused on the mission. Game and only game till you are too tired to game anymore.

I'm not familiar with Steam link. This is not unusual. You mean, like how I can use airplay on my Macbook to show stuff on Apple TV? Do you lose any performance or is there any input lag? If not, I may try it out.

So long as the fall off isn't astronomical, such as low settings on 30 FPS, I'd rather play the Souls like games on a console & TV. However, of course, for RTS or First Person Shooters, I'll always play on a PC with the ole AWSD & mouse setup.

The weird part about Xbox is that their UI's used to be so much better. The blades on the 360 was a simple and sleek design.

Then the Xbox One was okay at first too.

But right now holy hell is it overly complex and ugly.
