Finally playing the Final Fantasy 7 remake that I got for like $12 at Wal Mart months ago when they mistakenly had the same price on both the PS4 version (which I had claimed too) and the PS5 version which included the DLC code. I’ve never played it so all the story beats are new to me.

Playing in graphics mode on the Epson 3200 I picked up prior to Christmas and it’s very pretty imo, still some low res textures here and there but great draw distance and basically no loading times. Having fun while feeling the roots of older times. Projector HDR is legit, the Sun Lamps are retina searing.

I use rest mode on the PS5 and though it’s wasteful holy cow it’s almost like turning on the Switch, I love how I am in the game by the time the projector is ready.

PS5 Pro rumors have been floating around since like a month after PS5 launch.

Switch 4k/Pro rumors have been floating around since 2018 and here we are.

I'd take any of that with a grain of salt. If you want a PS5 now, get it now. If you don't want it now, wait until you want one, and get whatever is out at the time.

No one but yourself can tell you if it's worth it. To me, if there is one game that is a "must have" to me, a console is worth the cost of entry. And that "must have" title may not be a game anyone else even likes.

I am down for a Pro. I don’t get to game that much so it might as well be as pretty as possible and I think the PS5 disc version should have held its value really well.

Now, what it will actually improve? I am a bit dubious what QoL features there might be.

I guess I wasn't clear. It is worth Sony's time making a PS5 Pro? Is there a good reason for it? The article claims ray tracing, but that doesn't seem like a strong enough reason to me. Especially since the games are being developed for the lowest common denominator, which is usually last gen.

Marketing? Even if it is modestly better with like 2-3x internal storage it’s worth it. To get back in the news cycle can be with a lot.

The pro consoles seem to really be an attempt to reboot a slumping sales curve, unclear if that will be needed by the end of next year.

There is still the arms race vs MS and PCs to consider, and I doubt Sony wants to bring a knife to a gun fight.

New shiny more powerful hardware will always sell and becomes the new norm.

Considering the PS4 had a PS4 Pro and Xbox One had Xbox One X, I would be surprised if we did NOT see some sort of PS5 Pro at some point.

60 fps when 30 fps UE5 games come out.

We can't even get 4k @ 60fps right now on PS5 and XSX consistently on AAA titles, without ray tracing, so I think there will be some mid-gen hardware upgrade/revision personally.

Switch still gets the most play out of me out of all 3 current gen consoles though lol.

Odd, I rarely even touch my Switch.

Same here, I haven't played my Switch much since Super Mario 3D World came out on it. Played the hell out of that handheld in February 2021 when we didn't have power in Texas since it got to 25 degrees for a few days.

BTW, saw that Target is selling the PS5 disc Ragnarok bundle for $509. A deal? You basically get the game for 10 bucks.

Best Buy has it for $510 too. Wonder if this PS5 Pro rumor actually has a leg to stand on.

EDIT: Looks like maybe an official sale, as it's $510 at Playstation Direct, Amazon, Gamestop, and I forget where else also

I cleaned up my basement yesterday which included a pile of games my sons had taken off the stand and left on the ground, so I counted them when I put them back on.

Of my physical games, I have 28 Switch games, 5 PS5 games, and 0 XSX games. I don't count Halo 5, Gears 5, and Doom Eternal as XSX games since they are X1 games and I got them before the system even came out, to play on it, but Halo 5 is still sealed lol.

Then of digital games, I only own Switch digital games out of those 3 consoles, so the number goes even higher when counting digital + physical games.

There is no way a Pro model is coming anytime soon. AMD doesn't have anything that would make sense to put into a Pro model without blowing out the power budget or price.

Digital Foundry had a nice discussion on the topic in this weeks DF Direct:

Slim models do make sense, especially the PS5 as that thing is ridiculously huge.

It's pretty simple - switch to 8 Zen 4c cores and 72 CU RDNA 4, along with 16 GB GDDR7. Expensive? Yes... but that's OK since it's not a replacement for the existing models. Say $699 or $799 without the drive.

That would be a compatibility headache. They have to use the same architecture that can be downclocked to give the same performance as the non-pro model for games that were released before the Pro version. Or all those games will need to be patched by their respective gamedevs.

The new generation of consoles are doing reasonably well performance wise. Of course some people would be willing to pay for more, but the current consoles aren't severely underpowered compared to the launch consoles of last generation.

I havent gotten even close to finishing forbidden West. I just finished wo long today and still have god of war and Hogwarts to get through.

Besides to play through the dlc you must have finished forbidden West at least until they patch it to let you play without requiring completing the main game story.

Anyone going to get the HFW DLC? I don't think I will...
Yeah, I think I will... after I beat the Legend of Dragoon. I saw it for $10 on the PS Store and I couldn't refuse playing a childhood favorite again. :D

I have the HFW DLC downloaded to my console. I am trying to platinum Hogwarts Legacy first before playing HFW: Burning shores. There also is a patch for the DLC already.

Playstation's big formerly E3 showcase coming today at 1PM PST / 4PM EST. Hope we see some more info on Stellar Blade and I'll keep hoping against hope for a Blooborne remaster or at least a PS5 performance patch.

Yeah I hope there is something that intrigues me. There are literally zero games on the horizon that I know about that I am excited for, on any platform right now. I am eagerly awaiting Metroid Prime 4 but I'm guessing we won't see that on the Switch, probably on Nintendo's next console.

I am interested in seeing some PSVR2 games. If they have Astrobot 2 then I will be buying one. I held off FOMO at the initial launch and am glad I did because as of now, there is literally zero games that I really want to play on it.

I'm also interested in Silksong but I'm not hype for it because it's taken so damn long to develop that my excitement for Hollow Knight has dwindled. I'll play it but I'm not eagerly awaiting it.

Once SF6 comes out next week, that's basically it for me.
