PS5 Pro won't be $500, probably more like $800 and at that point the hardcore gamers who would have paid that kind of price for the exclusives will just play those on PC. I don't buy that casuals are going to pay that kind of money for the Pro console.
No price cuts are coming. Hell Sony increased the price of the PS5 with the Slim by making you buy a $30 stand if you want it to sit well vertically in addition to an outright $50 price bump on the digital edition. Microsoft buying Call of Duty basically kills the loss leader console model for Sony.
I don't see it anywhere near that cheap if it has any meaningful improvement in gpu.
That is me right there. I have zero interest in PC gaming. There is nothing on PC that I want to play that isn't on PS5. And there are a lot of games on Switch that don't make it to PC that I want to play.
Don't see the point of a cpu upgrade. Even if Zen 2 is weak by modern standards it's still plenty to keep almost any AAA game strongly gpu bound.
My expectation is PS5 Pro will be too expensive to appeal to most console buyers, but PC gamers are already used to selling a kidney to pay for gaming hardware. But if you can get the Playstation exclusives on PC I'd expect most who'd be in the PS5 Pro target market to just play on PC instead.
After my Atari 2600 and 800xl days I went to early PC gaming as the games I wanted to play or that interested me was on computers. The NES had some good stuff but nothing could come close to Sierra online or Lucasfilm games at the time. I have owned and still own pretty much every console and have always been a heavy gamer on both PC and consoles. But, when the PS5 came out and had the games I like and the exclusives I like I primarily play on the PS5. I still played graphic intensive games on the PC then all that stupid raytracing shit came out and MS xbox sucked to me as I think their exclusives suck.
I'm not in the market for a PS5 Pro personally. There isn't one PS5 game I've played and thought "this game runs like ass I wish it had more power."
The PS4 Pro was the same $400 the original PS4 was because of a big cost per transistor decrease on the shrink from the 28nm lithography of the PS4 to the 16nm lithography of the PS4 Slim/Pro. Those aren't happening now and the PS5 Slim is only on a 6nm lithography vs the 7nm of the original PS5. PS5 Slim actually got a price bump of $50 for the digital edition and a stealth price bump of $30 for not having a vertical stand anymore. There isn't big cost per transistor savings anymore from shrinks to smaller lithography and the shrinks also take way longer; it's why Microsoft released the Series S immediately, because they figured there would never be a time the could sell the Series X at $300 since cost per transistor wasn't forecast to drop significantly again in the lifetime of the console. If the PS5 Pro is going to have a significantly bigger gpu it's going to cost significantly more with no drop in cost per transistor.
PS4 Pro had a gpu at least twice as fast as the original PS4, as it was put out to encourage people to buy more 4k TVs from Sony. PS4 Pro games often ran at 1800p vs the 1080p of the base PS4, though stuck at 30 fps because of the massive cpu bottleneck the PS4 Pro had.
Only AAA PS5 game I can think of that's likely cpu bound targeting 60 fps on the system is Baldur's Gate 3. GPU is only like an RX 6700 non XT and you have games like FFXVI that get dropped to 720p render resolution to be able to hit 60 fps (in combat).
About 15 minutes into the game and the control feels kind of floaty. I'll play it for real later tonight or maybe tomorrow when I'm not pissed off about dying a 20th time in a row to Elizabeth in Persona 3 Reload lol. Guess I'll only do the first part and skip the second since the first part is the beginning of the base game. Reviews for the full game are supposed to drop tomorrow morning, which is encouraging since studios don't usually let reviews drop a week early for games they're not expecting to get glowing reviews. If they're good I'll probably buy this digital since it comes with Intergrade if you preorder and then I could sell my physical copy lol.
