What's sad is all the effort/money that is put into this for a video game system but we can't do anything to better things around us (homelessness, poverty, bad neighborhoods, etc.).

Don't get me wrong I am all for gaming and love to play myself (I have a mame cabinet, some pinball machines, a PSP, and a very nice computer) but this just seems ridiculous to me. I know this happens every time a new system launches but it just seems really out of control this time.

Ahh what do I know .... I just know that won't be me sitting out there.

BTW I just loved the comment from the parents that are first in line at the MD CC that this is there way of showing their kid how much they love him .... gimme a break. Waiting for 3 days outside to buy a $600 video game system is showing love for kid. No offense I can sure as hell come up with a better way of showing my love for my 2 kids than this.

Oh well .. I will shut up now since its not my place to judge.

Peace out and good luck to all your campers and parents!!

Greg

I'm telling you, I really think that people are overestimating the demand for the PS3. Even in Japan, auctions are going for near retail price.

I just read this too. I think it's funny how this has been posted for about 4 hours now and nobody else has addressed it. 🙂

Now I'm gonna get to go to work and rain on a co-worker's parade. He think's he's going to get 3 of them and flip 'em for about 3K each.

I dunno. We'll see. Auctions on eBay are ending between $2000 and $3000 right now.

It also sounds like a good number of those Japanese PS3s have ended up over here in the States.

Seems silly they would not include that... Is it just software? Could they add it via an update?

Or does it need hardware to do it?

Anyone?

Possibly. Depends on their architecture. But I'm assuming if it was just software, it'd already be in there, so its probably a hardware issue.

I've just heard some troubling news from someone who works at Sony. After pre-order systems, the east coast has about 400 units allocated for sale.

i'm jealous. My friend just played a kiosk (they have one at best buy) going to check mine tonight and see if any of'em have one. He's in the new york area. Just thought i'd let ppl in on it.

theyll probably fix it with a firmware update like the 360 did.

I sure as hell hope so. The gpu should be able to upscale for free. It's absurd that this is even a problem to begin with.

why? the console isnt even out yet, seems like a small oversight to me. i doubt they took the time to test the ps3 with every HDTV on the market. in fact they probably only tested it with sonys lol.

Well, they don't really need to test it with every one, but just with every major resolution. 1080i TVs are fairly common.

I had never heard of a TV that supports 1080i and not 720p.

Damn.. where have you been? Before the advent of techs like DLP CRT TVs that supported 1080i and not 720p were very common. I'd say they were more common than TVs that supported 720p at one point. I have an older CRT TV (maybe 5 or 6 years old) and when I purchased the TV it was one of the few that did support 720p in addition to 1080i.

Its not a small oversight. A very huge number of HDTVs, especially older ones, cant do this on their own. I used to have one. If the ps3 cant do HD, whats the point?

The PS3 can't do HD?

Not if your HDTV only does 1080i.

Not if your HDTV only does 1080i.

wow, that sucks, whats the point?

Older HD sets? I have a 3 yr old Mitsu silver series rear projection that does not do 720. I would hardly consider a 3 yr old tv to be "older"

Sony dropped the ball yet again..

the original? probably not considering the 360 didnt until recently when they upgraded the firmware to allow that functionality.

The 360 was able to do this from the start.
