PS3 dealbreaker for those (like me) with older HDTVs.
The PS3 does not support 720p -> 1080i upconversion.
Why does this matter? It matters cuz some games (like Resistance) are 720p, and the PS3 will output them as 720p (or 480p). Unfortunately, MANY TVs do not support 720p at all. They support only 1080i for HD.
"The maximum display resolution is currently set to 1080i. For highest image quality 720p is recommended. To change this setting, you must exit the application and change your Video Output Settings from the Display Settings option in the Settings menu.
Press the START button to continue" to 480p
It sounds more and more ridiculous every day. They need to start pimping some new games, quick.
As it turns out, gamers who own older HD sets that boast only 480i, 480p, and 1080i resolutions will have 720p signals downsized to 480 instead of being upscaled to 1080i. We tested this development on older television sets with max-720 games Resistance: Fall of Man, NHL 2K7, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, and Need for Speed Carbon. Sure enough, the system downscaled all four titles to 480p rather than moving up to 1080i.
WTF was Sony thinking?

What's going to be amusing to watch is the battle on eBay between the gougers and the scam buyers:
"Sure I'll pay $2,000 for a PS3, but I'll need your bank account information to transfer the money from Nigeria" 🙂

You know the market will be flooded with a ton of PS3 auctions. I know people will make easy $$$ but I find it hard to believe eBayers will pay $1,500+ for a $599 PS3? I guess we'll find out in a few days.

If I really wanted one this year I could see paying $1,000 for the convenience of not camping out, but $1,500+ is a bit crazy.Originally posted by: RossMAN

If I had a dollar for every time I had that premonition, I just might be able to actually afford a PS3.

Has anyone checked their local stores for lines yet? I'm going to try to start tonight but i'm thinking that its to late. I got my camping stuff in the car, food and water and have the day off from work tomorrow. I saw in the news this morning people already lined up, big lines already in some stores around NYC.
I'm going to check several stores and hope that one of them has a shorter line than 10 people.
if you weren't in line by yesterday, you are probably out of luck...
in reading the FW thread about this, all of the Best Buys and Circuit Cities have more people in line than the store's supply...(one of the CC's that has 100 units has 108 people line already)...alot of the BB's around Dallas have had people camping out since Monday or Tuesday...
I'm telling you, I really think that people are overestimating the demand for the PS3. Even in Japan, auctions are going for near retail price.Originally posted by: RossMAN
