Since the first thread fell off the bottom, I'm posting another. 🙂

I went out to the Phoenix Convention Center to pick up the race packet and visit the Health Expo that was going on. I took the new Phoenix Light Rail out there, was pretty slick. 2.50 for an all day pass, sure beats paying 12 dollars for parking downtown and trying to navigate traffic.

The convention center was packed with people. Cripes, the 'official' PF Changs Marathon gear was crazy expensive. 150 dollars for a Sugoi sweater, they can kiss my ass. I did buy a new fuel belt, a smaller one than I currently have, and a head sweat hat, though.

Lots of pretty girls there too, and for some reason a lot of them were wearing skin tight running gear to the expo. 🙂

They also had free beer samples. Technically one per person, but with the crowds, you just looped around the floor and grabbed another.

Good luck tomorrow buddy 🙂 And yes, that is crazy expensive. White Rock was about $90 for a full on NB dry fit running jacket...I can't imagine $150 for a frickin' sweater.

And yes, girls a plenty at running conventions...gotta love it. 🙂

I'll cross my fingers and hope for your sub 4 marathon tom!

Game Day.
Current Time: 0236
Current Weather:47F, Clear
Projected weather at race start: 40F, Clear.

Its about approximately a 35 minute drive to the race finish line, where shuttles transport runners to the start line, assuming no traffic. However, there are roughly 30K runners between the half and the full, so I'm anticipating some heavy traffic as I get into Tempe. My plan is to leave my apartment around 0400, the first shuttles start moving runners to the start line at 0430. The full marathon starts at 0740.

I know at two other people running in the full, but I don't know what corral they'll be starting in. I might see them, I might not. There's a few people I know running the half as well, but that starts at 0830, so I probably won't see them at all. As I understand the break down, ~10k are running in the full and 20k are running in the half. The full is using a corralled start and the half is using a wave start.

Edit: Because its going to get into the 70s today, I'm going to just wear my long pants and t shirt to the run. I was going to wear my warmer North Face top, but since its going to get into the mid 70s today, I'm just going wear the T. And freeze until the race start. Hmm, I suppose I could wear a jacket until it gets close to the race start, and then toss the jacket into the gear bag and retrieve it at the end of the race. The information I have doesn't specify if I'm supposed to drop off the gear bag at the race start line or where I park at the race finish area. This plan would only be effective if I dropped the jacket in the gear bag at the start area.

4:09. Disappointing. Though, they technically added .16 miles to the end, so it nearly equal to my PR. Bah.

I have a few choice words about Cytomax too. The shit made my stomach do flip flops. Damn sponsoring dollars, wish they just had water and gatorade.

I also have a few choice words for the fvcktards standing with their hats on, BSing with their buddies, while the national anthem was played. :|

How do you know if they added .16? You still did really well, I'd love to run a 4:09.

They didn't have Gatorade/water at any hydration station at all? Do you not carry your own bottle for fluids?

I always wear a Garmin Forerunner GPS unit during all my runs, thats how I know.

They had water, but no gatorade, just the Cytomax. I brought my fuel belt, but that only holds 40 oz total, which I had depleted entirely around mile 21.

There's some race pictures up, but none feature me. And the gallery they have up now is only a tiny fraction of what I know they took before, during, and after the race.

I know for a fact there are at least two pictures of me, one before the race and one after the race. I'll be pissed if they expect me to pay for them. Simple digital shots of a decent resolution should be free to race participants.
