Actually I am a firm believer any law/rule/etc made by man can be broken or changed by man, they are not written in the fabric of the universe.

But the point is, discussions can get confused or lost with other on going discussions. And you will have to check a thread repeatedly to see if something new popped up because someone just posted a response to something someone else said on a subject you have already personally moved on from. And mostly likely at some point, people will just stop bothering because of it and can miss something of import to them personally or something we should constantly be made aware of as hopefully responsible citizens.

And the OMG factor is not what many of us read threads for but to help keep ourselves abreast of what is going on in the world and forums such as this at times are a quick short cut to such things. And many of us have the ability to skip/ignore the sensationalizing aspects and go straight for what is important.

I have been reading here for years but as you can see I rarely post, but when I see stuff like this happen, I find it hard to ignore and very sad in ways and a step backward for AnandTech in this area.

That seems to be the M.O. in play here. NYPD officers arrested a bicyclist for running a red light, but that arrest wasn't effected until the bicyclist attempted to film the interaction. Here's all ten seconds of it before the cop shut the arrestee's impromptu shooting down.

Will Paybarah, the scofflaw in question, received this memorable explanation for hasty neutralizing of his iPhone while sitting in the back seat of the unmarked squad car.
I was told by another officer while in the car that recording a police officer was illegal because people are using iPhones as guns and shooting cops through the camera lens...I told him that I have the right to be recording a cop and he said that there were incidents, specifically in uptown Manhattan where a kid shot a cop with his iPhone. Straight face. Very serious.
Now, it's true that recording footage is often slangily referred as "shooting footage," and that cops are increasingly on the receiving end of these types of "shootings." But there has yet to be any evidence produced that indicates phones and cameras are being converted into guns on any sort of mass scale or that these new hybrids are so common that this "fear" has a rational basis.

A kid may have "shot" a cop with his iPhone, but without any data to back up this claim, the only thing taking a hit was the officer's mistaken belief that public service is afforded an expectation of privacy. Cops telling citizens this sort of cop-centric urban legend to defend the trampling of the First Amendment indicates that they believe citizens are idiots.

Paybarah, meanwhile, spent 13 hours in lockup over a red light infraction. Well, not entirely. By the time the cop was finished effecting the arrest of the person holding the theoretically weaponized iPhone, charges of resisting arrest, obstruction and criminal mischief had been added -- charges that are just as malleable as cops' minds.

Cops walk or drive by plenty of people holding "weapons" in plain sight, all of them unlicensed and potentially deadly. An overwhelming majority of the public wouldn't even consider leaving the house without being "strapped," and yet, months and years go by without cops being shot in the face by iGuns. Perhaps the police chalk up this low rate of deadly incidents to their expedient neutralization of camera gun wielders. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance and all that, and the cops can't be expected to protect the freedoms they'll take from you if they're constantly being "shot" by armed citizens.

Better safe than sorry -- that's the real intent of the Constitution. An officer getting home safe (and unrecorded) at the end of every shift is a far worthier goal than the vague rights pre-supposed to idiot citizens by a handful of amendments.

Maybe the cops should switch out their service pieces for deadly cameras -- you know, in order to keep up with "the streets" in the arms race. That way, the next time they get drunk and start shooting, the end result will be nothing more than a bunch of shitty Instagrams.
 
In Toronto a mentally ill young man was shot 9 times and killed by murderous 'peace' officers. The young man was inside by himself in a cable car with a small knife. The police didn't even try to taser him 1st. They just started shooting. 1 cop was charged with 2nd degree murder but is now back on the job. After he was dead the Sergeant went into the cable car and TASERED the corpse! LOL! (Sadly).

FalseChristian, we have an official police misconduct thread that we have to put any and all police type or law enforcement type news into. By the way I read about this, and it was shockingly gross and sad.

And let us put this on the record, I am the one who was not told I had to do this, I suggested this and encouraged to make a single thread for any and all cop related threads. So yes, this isn't let's just "bash" oldgamer and make him post only in one place for these type threads this is for any and all who post these type threads.

I am sorry your so offended by anything I post here, but this was to eliminate the potential of not just me but others being jumped on and bashed and thread crapped in their threads that are related to cop stories. So yea, you the lucky ones are also to do the same.

I find the confinement of news worthy stories to a single thread absurd. They're not all the same, and it's sad that a few whiny posters can make that happen.

If I found all the good stories about LEO's and started posting them individually, do you think the outcome would be the same? I certainly do not.

I will not be visiting the confined thread. I posted in it, and it's been removed from my subscriptions list. They're successfully silencing you.

What that means for AT is less hits from me, and more hits to another site for news stories.

The only proper forum for any complaints or comments about our moderation is the Mod Discussions forum.

It was my understanding with Perknose that any and all threads from anyone on this board related to cop misconduct should go in that thread. Not just mine. Otherwise that defeats the purpose and it seems by the looks of it I am not the only one who posts these. I didn't have to go to a single thread, I am the one who encouraged this through private pm with Perknose.

The thread crapping has already begun on this guys OP here as you can see. The whole idea was to keep complaints down about the cop threads, not just place oldgamers in one particular area. It is meant to be for anyone who posts on this type news events.

Anyway, I will just sit back I guess and watch others troll and hit the "report" button on others police threads. It's going to be interesting. Either that or others would be gun shy about posting them, and yes, that would mean those who complained will have successfully censored anyone from posting such threads.

I understand, but I think I said in the other post that anyone who is bothered with this can certainly pm the mods. I was trying to be amenable to a degree.

Here's a nice scary one. A cop runs a stop sign, crashes into a woman, and then the cops falsely arrest her for a DUI and file a false report claiming she was at fault. They continue to try to prosecute her after the medical tests show she wasn't drunk and a video eventually surfaces showing the cop ran through the red light, forcing him to admit he was at fault. Bonus - he has a history of falsifying reports by signing reports prepared by others.

My question is does he get jail time for this? Nope.. that is what burns me so. This could have resulted in destroying this womans life, and she sat in jail with that broken neck btw.
