So I'm about 14 hours into the game and still level 1. I've already closed two Oblivion gates and seem to be a decent ways through the main quest.

Blade and speechcraft are some of my primary skills and I've leveled them up quite a bit (I'm now an Apprentice in Blade) but, for some reason, my level progress bar seems to be stuck at 100%. Is this a bug or have a I missed something about the leveling? Any help is appreciated.

you need to rest to get the level up option.

Be careful about your choice of words. If you had been the first to reply, I would have said "I rest all the time" because I've WAITED many times. Evidently the only way to actually level up is to find a bed and sleep in it. Pretty arbitrary, if you ask me...

Thanks for the advice, though.

resting is different from waiting. you cannot rest without a bed.

I know. 🙂 My point is that rest and wait are normally interchangeable terms. Being precise is good, but it would help if you'd also explicitly draw the distinction. Like I said in my previous post, if you had told me that I needed to rest, I would have assumed that you meant either wait or sleep in a bed, since they accomplish the same thing is most games. It's sort of a small point, but an important one, I think.

Hi there,

I just started playing this and I am stuck at the cave area once you get outside the sewers. I killed a bunch of imps and rats and got to a place with water. I go through a stone door and there is a throne in the room but I can't seem to find my way pass this. I tried retracing my steps but the way I came is blocked.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you got turned around. The cave exits to the sewers and the sewers exit to the outside world (an island).

Thanks for the reply.

Are you saying this cave leads back into the sewers?? I left sewer area where you had one last chance to change your character.

This cave area had a few tunnels and one of them had a man lying on a slab in a cave with a rusty axe.

Ok, so you left the sewer, came out into the edge of water, swam across this water, and entered the ayelid ruins there (white stone structure)? The problem with your question is, you talk about leaving the sewers and then being in a cave, but there had to be something between those 2, since the sewer exit leads to the world map. I think you are in the ayelid ruins because I remember a bandit on a slab, it should have been a female cat person. Lots of ayelid rooms have floor triggers.

I think one of the exits to this room is underwater and another is a hidden floor panel.

Lay off the Caffeine . . . your character needs to sleep to level up
[find a bed]. 😉

So do i

g'night

😀

Hehe, just figured that out, but thanks. Ironically, after reading this somewhere else and loading up the game again to test it, the first loading screen I saw said "You need to find a bed and sleep in order to level up." Great... NOW you tell me. 🙂

i did pretty good for no sleep at 1 am 😛
[and now it's 6:30 am and i am ready for work . . . well, up on caffeine, anyway] 😀

this game is responsible for me losing quite a bit of sleep
:Q

. . . and CHfan4ever, "use" your filled Soul Gem . . . it'll tell you what it will recharge. Varla Stones will recharge everything at once [and are finally getting pretty easy for me to find]. otoh, you have to learn the schedule of each "recharge" Mage at Guild Halls and pay a bit of Gold for the service.

Dark Brotherhood, is that the assasin guild ? I can't seem to find the invite to that. I guess I just wasnt cut out to be a killer 😉

murder someone and sleep. you will get an invite.

Sleep was the missing link, thanks. My first nights rest was at my newly purchased Anvil manor. Its native "guests" had to wait in line behind the Dark Brotherhood spokesman to access my character in the middle of the night.

Target Gift card . . . ?

again . . . What are you waiting for? If you like the "fluff" get the collectors edition . . . if you are a gamer on a budget, the regular version is fine.

ok.

I left the sewers and there was a dock in front of me. I walk around to the right I think and noticed a door in a cave. I entered and had to fight a Shamen and picked up his staff after defeating him. I went deeper into the cave. I had to fight fire and ice imps along the way. I eventually had to go through a door. This put me in an area full of water with a few stone stuctures around, aka greek ruin like. The water is knee deep. I then evenually had to enter a stone like door which put me in a structute that had a throne in 1 room fighting imps along the way. Eventally got to the end and the door put me back into the water area. I tried to backtrack and somehow the way I came was sealed off by boulders.

I guess I may need to do some exploring to figure this out....

Might be a mistake on their part. I actually got my non-collectors edition from Target and it was a DVD-ROM. I didn't see any CDROM versions down there, and believe me I looked. I also hate those damn 10+ disc installs.

can someone help me out? I can't find the second fence... i don't even remember what city, and i can't seem to find it in my logs.

Isn't the 2nd fence in the 2nd most southern city? It's the one that looks kinda marshy, IIRC.

Go and change your active quest to the one about making your fencing goal and she should appear.

Just look at your map to find your way back out. Hit tab to bring up your menu and click on your compass. It will bring up your maps and quest/journal entries.

When I get home I'll see if I can find this cave, but have you tried using the automap? It can usually give you hints as to what paths are available to you.

You can continually use the first fence throughout all the fencing quests. I know this doesn't answer your question, but it makes it a lot easier as you won't be tracking new people down and the first guy sells to you from like the majority of the places he is at all day long.

Edit: Oh and igowerf hehe beat me to the punch on that automap post 😀
