This is actually going to be released???

I thought Microsoft was jealous of Duke Nukem Forever and decided to make their own version.

Sums up my thoughts exactly. I remember hearing about this game in 2006 and it suddenly disappeared under the radar till now.

i have a 42" LCD TV as my main display on my gaming PC so complete bullshit reasoning.

more than likely is they can't be bothered making a port, or to make yuo want it and release it in a few months

ROFL. I remember how people used to point to Alan Wake every time someone would say that a quad core CPU is absolutely not necessary if all you do is play games on PC.

I can't believe people are even waiting for this game. It is in the same category as Duke Nukem Forever.

Complete and utter bullshit... I have my PC hooked to my 40" HDTV together with my Xbox (apart from some temporary driver issues). I wonder how much MS paid them not to make a PC version (or severly delay it). This game was supposed to have stunning visuals together with a great story and the Xbox is anything but capable of displaying state-of-the-art graphics compared to a modern PC.

Having said that, depending on reviews, I will get it on my Xbox anyway :p

Back in July 15, 2009 - Remedy wanted to make it for the PC, but since they were consumed by Microsloth - it would be up to the big software giant.

HALO followed the same path - it was slated for the PC until Microsloth wanted it as an Xbox exclusive [which eventually it was "ported" back to the PC].

shrug.

If by "PC" you meant the Windows platform, that is incorrect. It was originally being developed by Bungie for the Macintosh OS. Of course, MS bought Bungie and the rest is history. However, I do get your point.

Here is a video clip from a 1999 MacWorld Expo where Steve Jobs/Bungie introduced Halo during the keynote.

Ha ha, looks like Apple has still "forgotten" gaming.

Valve/Blizzard teaches you that waiting for any game is pointless. Just sit back and not even think about it.

Don't know if this was common knowledge or not but it was news to me. Alan Wake isn't coming to the PC.

From the article

I remember hearing about this game back in 2006. It was supposed to take advantage of quad core.

I wonder why they decided not to make it? Is it really hard on graphics cards to the point that it can only be played on 720p? That doesn't really make sense considering today's PC Video cards are much stronger than the units found in Xbox 360 and PS3.

It would be great to see Apple doing some great with gaming.

Having Halo might have given Apple a real boost. I guess that is why Microsoft decided to buy them out.

I like the reason Lucas Arts gave for making Force Unleashed a console exclusive better. That game also came to the PC. I would be willing to bet that a PC version of the game exists. Wait a few months after Microsoft gives up trying to get you to buy a 360 and then it will come out for the PC.

Thud.

Not sure how making the game that was supposed to stress top of the line PCs and quad core machines with DX10 graphics is going to offer a more compelling experience on 6 year old, antiquated CPU, obsolete DX9 graphics, and low resolutions though. Are the devs going to pull a Halo and spend several months (or years) cutting features to get it to run on the 360?

Would be nice if Linux gaming became the norm, and we could all tell Microsoft where to shove their OS.

An official statement from Microsoft, posted at Strategy Informer, states that the publisher felt that the game was best suited to be played "from the couch in front of a larger TV screen".

Which actually means.. We don't feel like investing any money into PC development for Alan Wake because that requires extra effort and consoles make us the most amount of $$. Better experience from the couch.. Give me a break..

I guess it is M$ we're talking about here. Alan Wake was supposed to be a big title to showcase DX10 if i'm not mistaken, but when GFWL failed and tons of money started to flow in for 360 games they probably decided to ditch the idea.

dont worry about it. PC gaming is dying thanks to MS and companies like IW/Activision making even the online parts of the game essentially console ports (modern warfare 2). for a PC gamer that ends up getting an xbox instead, what else keeps him on a windows OS?

for me, linux is nowhere near ready. too much hassle getting it working and nothing i tried last time around worked out the box. i'd rather pay for windows tbh. maybe that'll change once google puts some of their muscle into making an OS for PCs

Obvious marketing droid bullshit screen, but what do you expect?

I'm not sure why anyone thinks Microsoft cares about PC Gaming. Microsoft has done nothing but undermine and cannibalize PC gaming since their first xbox was introduced. It is clear that the xbox division is their favored child and that any effort that might hurt the xbox, ever so slightly even if it helped the PC division immensely, will be carefully avoided.

I've seen valve's Gabe Newell complaining about the situation in an article. If he's smart, he'll try to focus on OpenGL and less Microsoft-centric technologies for future titles. Direct3D is just the stick Microsoft uses to whip you with.

PC segment is about 12 billion in revenue for software and about 30 billion for hardware. The money is there, it's just who has enough resources to develop a game and capitalize on it in such a economic climate is the problem.

If you only have 3 major competitors, then you're only going to get that fewer of selection of games. You're talking 2-3 years from birth to delivery and million dollar budgets. Obviously Allen Wake ran into a few budgeting problems. If they can recoup or beat forecasts, I'm sure they'll come out with a PC varient in the future.

Remedy 'too small' to make Alan Wake PC
Microsoft announced that the PC version of Alan Wake had been ditched back in February - and would-be customers were left more than a little upset.

Microsoft said the decision was made because 'the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360'.

However, Alan Wake developer Remedy has revealed another factor - the fact it is too small to work on two major projects at once.

If that sounds promising to PC owners, apologies for dashing your hopes: The developer adds that it has "no plans" to create a PC version.

"We're a small studio, about 50 people," Remedy development head Oskari Häkkinen told Digital Spy. "Concentrating on one platform is just a lot easier for us where we're smaller than other studios, and its just been focused, focusing on one platform and getting that done. We have no plans for PC right now."

How many more excuses do you think they're likely to come up with about this..

To me, that's a more valid excuse than "Alan Wake is properly experienced on the 360" which was just an absurd excuse. There are TONS of PC gamers who can/do use large HDTVs for gaming. Just like there are TONS of 360 users who DON'T use large HDTVs for gaming.

The game was supposed to be PC exclusive at start (was said to need quad-cores)... So lol. MS just paid them to have Xbox exclusiveness. It's very lame and they should just come clean - though they won't and will continue to feed bullshit to the public. Since a modern PC is light years ahead of a console, saying a game will be enjoyed best on a console is pure comedy. Well yeah - since it won't come to the PC, people will only get to experience it on the Xbox (hence, by default, it will be the best).

I still go *sigh* when I remember the first reason - "we feel the game will be best experienced on a couch in front of a HDTV". So I guess all the console players that use LCD monitors won't be allowed to run the game... Not to mention it's physically impossible to connect a PC to a HDTV, right? RIGHT? *sigh*

I game on my Xbox only btw - for all those thinking I'm some hater. I just hate when we're fed bullshit stories like those.

didn't even hear about this game until this thread. It looked like a good adventure game.
