Right now my Canucks are in a dog fight with the Sharks 🙂 1-1 going into the 3rd 🙂

Go Canucks Go!!! 😀😀😀

GO OILERS!!!

Huge divisional matchup tonight against the Flames... Calgary is the hottest team in the league right now (9-1 last 10 games)..

i didn't even realize there was hockey games during the day 😕 :Q 😛

go oilers up 1-0 after 2... :Q

BAM w00t Oilers win in yet another shootout!

Mike Morrison is looking REALLY good for a rookie tender.

Sens #1 in the Eastern Conference and the league.

The best forward line in the league right now.

:Q

Bring on Montreal. 🙂

hey hockey crew...

which game went into a 15-round shootout on Saturday?! i just heard about it @ work and can't wait to go home and watch the highlights.

also, i heard a hit in the Vancouver / Phoenix game was pretty much the hit of the year so far.

anyone catch this action?!

Capitals @ Rangers... I watched it all on tv... awesome game despite the result. Tellqvist is a good goalie.

I respect and hate the Sens. They don't even have to play and they would still be the Sabres. They've scored 21 goals in the 3 games so far against the Sabres 🙁

On the bright side, the Sabres have gotten back to their winning ways from the beginning of the season, despite key injuries.

Senators' Spezza named NHL Offensive Player of the Week; Oilers' Morrison is Top Defensive Player

link to nhl.com story

NEW YORK/TORONTO -- Ottawa Senators center Jason Spezza, who led all scorers with eight points (four goals, four assists) in three games, has been named the NHL's Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 27. Edmonton goaltender Mike Morrison, who backstopped the Oilers to three consecutive victories, two by shootout, and recorded a 1.58 goals-against average and .933 save percentage, is the League's Defensive Player of the Week.

Atlanta Thrashers left wing Ilya Kovalchuk, who posted seven points (3-4--7 in four games), Los Angeles Kings left wing Alexander Frolov (2-5--7 in three games) and New Jersey Devils right wing Viktor Kozlov (1-5--6 in two games) were runners-up for offensive honors, while goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (3-1-0, 1.51 GAA), goaltender Martin Biron of the Buffalo Sabres (3-0-0, 1.95 GAA) and defenseman Mathieu Schneider of the Detroit Red Wings (3-2--5 in three games) were runners-up for the defensive award.

Spezza opened the week by scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in a 5-3 victory at Carolina Tuesday. He tallied one goal and one assist in a 6-2 victory at the New York Islanders Friday and notched his second four-point game of the season (two goals, two assists) in a 4-2 victory against the Boston Bruins Saturday.

Spezza, 22, is tied for the League scoring lead with 39 points (10 goals, 29 assists) in 21 games. The second overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft has an active six-game point streak and has recorded a point in 19 of 21 contests this season. The Senators (18-3-0, 36 points) have won five consecutive games, are 10-1-0 in their past 11 and rank first in the NHL's overall standings.

Morrison began the week turning aside 21 shots in a 2-1 shootout victory against the San Jose Sharks Monday. He stopped 25 shots in a 4-3 victory at Minnesota Wednesday and made 27 saves in a 2-1 shootout victory at Calgary Friday. Morrison blocked six of seven shootout attempts, including a four-for-four performance against the Flames.

Recalled from the Oilers' ECHL affiliate in Greenville, S.C. on Oct. 24, Morrison made his NHL debut in a relief role Nov. 7 at Dallas and made his first start Nov. 14 at Colorado. Selected in the seventh round, 186th overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft, the 26-year-old Medford, Mass. native and former University of Maine standout is 4-0-0 with a 1.38 goals-against average and .944 save percentage in six NHL games this season.
obviously I couldn't be happier for Edmonton in this situation... Conklin goes down and things start to look bleak, and a rookie tender comes through. this is huge.

winning on the road in Calgary was just the icing on the cake!

edit: and i was always right about Spezza ever since i saw him play with the Spitfires... co-workers laughed in my face when i said he was going to be good. 😛 so this is for them... :middlefinger; 😀

Spezza has that ridiculous reach and soft hands... I first noticed him in the Youngstars Game a couple years back I think it was. He didn't do anything special in that one, but you sure could tell he'll amount to someone one day.

his stickhandling is ridiculous. his hands are almost phantom-like, i swear he puts D to sleep... it's like crazy tai-chi on ice or something. 😛 his speed is also very deceptive because he's such a smooth skater. ok. i'm done singing his praises for now 🙂 i can't believe he is tied with Jagr for the scoring lead now!! imagine him leading the AHL and NHL in scoring in consecutive years?!

THAT WOULD BE SICK!!!!!!!!11!11

ok. next topic... that shootout goal by Malik was fscking HILARIOUS! did you see the look on his face after?! i made my sandwich with extra ROFFLE MAYO after that!! 😛 🙂

edit: LOL i guess ridiculous is the word of the night 😛

1) Did you notice Spezza (and Ottawa) has played 5 fewer games than Jagr ?! And he's still tied. Then again, Jagr has only Nylander and Straka (both mediocre talent) to help him while Spezza's got bonafide superstars.

2) The Malik expression was great. My Capitals lost but his expression got an instant chuckle out of me as soon as he scored the winner. JD (Rangers broadcaster) mentioned he was a joker of a character to begin with... it just made it all the more funny.

3) If the Blues didn't suck so bad, I'd be getting a Phil Kessel Capitals jersey right now... :|

My Sabres are looking good lately.

Ottawa will be great until the playoffs, where they will undoubtedly choke. They are already written off in my book.

Actually, the Rangers goalie is Lundqvist... I think Tellqvist is a backup on Toronto.

Malik's shot to beat Kolzig literally had me jumping (big time Rangers fan here 😛). You can check out the shot here: nice shot

not so fast... the playoffs used to be about grinding it out / playing in seaweed with all the grabbing, etc. We'll see how the new rules affect that. If you're in the playoffs, I'm not so sure you want to be giving your opponent 10 PP chances. Especially Ottawa's PP.

Ottawa will choke in the playoffs, no matter what the new rules are.

QFT!!

Giving the Sens a PP is just asking for trouble.

On a side note: Spezza's brother is playing with the London Knights here. I wonder how he will turn out in a few years?

You know, I see that in the past few games with Vancouver, the refs have let off quite a bit. They're still calling it tighter than previous years, but not calling absolutely everything, at least not the first time they do it. Is it that way with the rest of the NHL?

God, Boston sucks so hard. No one will SKATE. One good period and it's the same old shooting gallery as always...

Trade...everyone.
