Correction: the NHL itself may never see another player like Stevie Y again! Great player, and an even better guy. Yzerman is one of my all-time favourites, and Spezza who is one of my favourite young guns also idolizes Yzerman.

Heard a lot today about the Wings - no one gave the Oilers any credit whatsoever. It was all the Wings underachieving, said the Wing fans. All about Legace letting in weak goals, and all about not enough offense from the steady producers.

All I have to say is HOW BOUT THEM OILERS?! geesh.

Anyhoo... now that I have fully savoured the moment (and put my clothes back on 😛 ) - it's time to think... who's next?

Well, since I'd rather see the Oilers and Flames in the conference final instead of the conference semi, I'd like to swim with the Sharks for a while. You gotta admit - when you take out the "best team in hockey" in the first round, I think you're pretty much ready for anything. Although, I do feel that the Sharks are going to be super tough. Maybe even super tough to the point where it will be hard to get a win. But consider this...

- Nashville was small, SJ absolutely manhandled them
- Oilers D is much MUCH tougher than Nashville's (imho) - Super Joe might have issues with Pronger and Smith, among others
- Thornton could spend more time in the box because he won't like the way the Oilers D doesn't collapse like Nashville's
- Roli vs. Chris Mason

I just don't think that the Preds were a decent first round test for the Sharks.

But we're getting way ahead of ourselves here 🙂

John, who would you rather play? Any preference?

Since they're reseeding in the second round, there is no way that Edmonton and the Flames will meet in the Western final, so you should hope for it now. 🙂

Wow! I didn't think anyone cared or followed the AHL here! I admit, I only follow my the Pirates, but still someone else knew what I was talking about!

I think the Pirates will do ok, and if Anaheim loses they get back Perry Getzlaf, and Penner!!(awesome that you are somehow related btw; very cool  ) That was our first line for a while, which was hugely productive! Perry scored a point in all 17 of his games here, setting a franchise record in the process! We also have Bobby Ryan who is suppossed to be daaaamn good as well. I the pirates will do well, but do even better with them. Anaheim has some very good talent in its system right now, they will be very good if not better than now in the coming seasons.

I'm glad to see another AHL fan here 🙂. Hope the Moose make it to the finals so we can duke it out 😀

I can't say I follow the AHL as much as I probably should, since that's who we have locally, but I do try and keep on top of it. I've got a guy at work that's a fanatical moose fan though, so that's where I get most of my info. Plus, if I hadn't been following Penner's rise to the NHL I wouldn't know that Portland was Anaheim's affiliate. 🙂

I actually built a computer for his dad back in the days when Dustin played for Bottineau (a tiny little college in North Dakota). Pretty crazy how he got into the NHL. He was never drafted but played some bottom wrung NCAA then moved to the UMain where he was picked up as a free agent.

He was rejected by all of our Junior A hockey teams in Manitoba, so he played high school hockey (usually considered to be quite sub-standard). Turns out he had some talent after all. 🙂

Wow - I'm so glad I watched the last half of that game.

Too bad it ended on a goal like that for Huet. Big props to the Habs for hanging in there without Koivu.

Canes / Devils!

Sens / Sabres!

AREEEEE YOUU READDDYYYYYYYYY 😛

Ward looked very good in net for carolina. Montreal was really on the offensive at the end of the 3rd and he played great.

Very good, yeah I think that qualifies 😀

Only the 2nd goalie to win his first 4 playoff games! :Q

As long as Emery's in net, Buffalo can score on Ottawa.

Well, at this point, it's going to be either Colorado, if the Ducks lose tomorrow, or Edmonton, if the Ducks win. That's a hard decision and either team is going to bring a tough series. The Sharks can usually hold their own against the Avalanche, but that was against either Aebiescher or Budaj, and I'm not sure how we'd look against Theodore. Rollie has a huge momentum boost after stopping the Wings, so it's really hard to say who I'd rather face.

Anyways, you gotta remember that Super Joe was NOT a factor in our victory against Nashville. Nashville put their best line against the Thornton line, but it was actually Marleau's line that stepped up and got the job done. Both Colorado and Edmonton will have their work cut out since we do have (IMO) the best 1-2 offensive punch in the NHL.

A SanFran Seals fan? 🙂

I think San Jose could take care of Edmonton pretty easily (then again they did beat Detroit, so who knows?). Colorado would probably be a harder series for SJ, I would think.

But, then again it is the play-offs!

Yeah.

Just cause i want to see a battle of AB 🙂

Ya, me too! My sister who lives in Edmonton wants the Flames to lose to avoid it. She says there's too much tension when the 2 teams play. I said so what, it's entertaining for me out on the west coast! 😀
