Niklas Hjalmarsson is a great, unsung defenseman.

It would be a tragedy if he becomes a cap casualty.

Not really. There were multiple missed calls. In fact, this game would've been lopsided if it wasn't for the stellar play of Niemi.

Definitely agree with this. The Hawks were grossly outplayed for a good chunk of it. Niemi was great, particularly early on, Canucks took some dumb penalties and did actually get robbed of a few calls later on.

Anyway, no excuses, Canucks need to put the puck in the net.

If the Canucks were any good/intelligent they would have just emulated Chicago and put Niemi in net along with the puck. Apparently last night it was legal - they should have used it too!

Niemi is yet another example of how sports execs may have more experience at the business than the rest of us, but are not smarter and maybe even dumber.

The short, squatty, awkward looking guy is not an easy sell. He doesn't have the NHL look of someone like Huet.

And if Huet hadn't totally imploded after signing the big deal Niemi would probably never have gotten a shot.

But the dude is CLEARLY an NHL quality starting goalie. He was just getting Kurt Warnered.

Fucking front office "geniuses". They make me ill at times. Any front office guy in any sport with even average intelligence is a golden boy.

Well - I looked up his stats. I guess he's not that short.

He just looks short on TV somehow.

My main beef remains unchanged, though.

Haha, yeah, good point! :awe:

Yeah, I was just checking because to me he actually seems like a taller than average goalie. I kind of agree with your beef, but I also understand why the Hawks have stuck with Huet given his past history in the NHL.

I think they've also stuck with Huet cause his contract is pretty hard to move. 5.625m/yr for a backup is pretty bad. Hes signed through two more years after this one.

That means this past off season trying to trade him was trying to move a middle of the pack / questionable tender with a 5.625m/yr contract for three years. Yikes.

I can't find it now, but I read in some article that Luongo basically said the Canucks were going to be pushing at Niemi next game since it's apparently legal and allowed in this series.

My only thought was why wait until the next game, they should have been all over him in the one they were in.

And lastly Krejci is out for the season with a broken wrist. That's a real bummer for Bruins fans. 🙁

Well, this is the hawks last year to be this strong. They have a massive signing predicament next year, and are grossly over cap. You could see some players leave.

Holy crap, Franzie! 😱
